It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

I think it’s ridiculous to expect no spoilers for Netflix shows. How else would people discuss it? Confused

I avoid threads if I haven’t watched an entire series of something on Netflix.

@bonfireheart

I thought Benedict last season might be gay but don't think it's going that way lol.
Me too. If you look at the books it does seem very formulaic guy gets girl. It would be nice if they mixed it up a bit.
BiscuitLover3678 · 28/03/2022 10:03

@Selma22

Also interested to see what they are going to do for Colin and Penelope.She is meant to change a lot ...is the actress going to loose a lot of weight ?Currently she looks like his little sister
I hope not as that would be a bit sad! She might look more grown up in different ways.
BiscuitLover3678 · 28/03/2022 10:04

Season 1 was definitely more interesting and scandalous but I agree the chemistry is far better in season 2. If you didn’t like the couple I can imagine you’d find it very boring though.

Why the Eloise hate? She was loved season 1.

Nopetryagain · 28/03/2022 11:06

I really enjoyed this series and preferred it to the first!

I think Anthony is utterly gorgeous though so perhaps I am blinded by that!

melj1213 · 28/03/2022 11:17

What’s the order of the next characters?

Daphne's story is first but then after that they go in age, and alphabetical, order - Anthony, Benedict Colin, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth - but the plots of the different books overlap eg the start of Eloise's story runs concurrent, chronologically, to the end of Colin's so I wonder if they might start to combine later books into the same series' a bit more if they complete the set.

I think you can see pointers, maybe, in a couple of scenes, where her hair was less fussy, and more natural, or where she’s not wearing yellow. The actress who plays her is so good, I think it will be done well without equating weight loss with getting the guy.

@tiredanddangerous

I've binged it over the weekend. Disappointing and nowhere near as good as the first series. The Kate/Anthony storyline was completely predictable.

I'm only in it for Daphne at this point!

Tbf, the Kanthony story was changed significantly from the books because the book was even more predictable and formulaic. Its basically the same "couple who do not want to be married end up in a seemingly compromising, but actually innocent, moment and are forced to marry, neither are happy initially but it turns out they actually do love each other and are a perfect couple who live happily ever after in the end" trope as Daphne and Simon's story, although the context is different, so if they hadn't changed the story then people would have been complaining that it was too much like S1 just without Rege and all the sex.

Also it is based on a Regency series of historical romance books, their entire point is to be trope-y and formulaic where everyone ends up happily married off in the end (girl mets boy, connection is made, drama ensues, they realise they're true love, overcome the drama of the hour, marry and live happily ever after) so short of totally changing the entire plot of rhe whole series (which would annoy the book readers and defeat the purpose of it being an adaptation of the books rather than an original "Regency romance" series) then they can't win.

@Selma22

Loved the books but very disappointed at how the events were changed.I jnderstnad that they needed to fill 8 episodes with stuff and events in the book alone wouldn't have done it but the Kate and Anthony storyline missed important events in the development of their attraction to each other and then jumped to to them loving each other.The book was better. Also could have kept the sex scene more tasteful. Actress chosen to play Kate is so beautiful but don't think acted that well ,especially the angry,frustrated scenes..in this story there are many. Let's hope Sophie and Benedicts story is written for screen better.My favourite book out of the series
I thought sex scene was really tastefully done and rather beautiful.
Selma22 · 28/03/2022 13:28

Didn't really need to see his head between her legs ;)

diddl · 28/03/2022 13:30

"Currently she looks like his little sister"

The actress who plays Penelope is 6yrs older than the guy who plays Colin!

Candlecassie · 28/03/2022 13:32

Are the books good?

Are the books good?
@Candlecassie I enjoyed them, they are a lovely escape from reality! They are formulaic and the word ‘rake’ is used soooooo much but I don’t think it detracted from how much I enjoyed them.
Trixiefirecracker · 28/03/2022 13:51

@Selma22 it was hardly pornographic.

Very good ,light holiday read. Finished each book in couple of days

@GreatOak

S2 - oh dear. Everything that made S1 unique & fun & watchable was gone in S2. Difficult to get behind a romance between two people who have (IMO) not an ounce of on-screen chemistry between them and because their romance ended up hurting another person, they came across as deeply unlikeable, selfish, and therefore unattractive.

Netflix does this a lot: S1 brilliant, S2 disappointing. Then limp through S3 and S4. It doesn’t bode well.

If netflixs track record is anything to go by, we won't get a season 4 at all. They tend to give up after 3.

I quite liked it though, and I love the Queen. She is fantastic, my favourite character now. Grin

melj1213 · 28/03/2022 17:06

The couples are not secrets though and the books have been out for about 20 years - my copy of the books has the couples named on the cover (eg The Viscount who Loved Me; Anthony and Kate's Story)

workshy44 · 28/03/2022 17:16

I thought it was got a lot better as it went on. Up to episode 4 it was dire but really improved beyond that. I thought Anthony was v good and did think they had chemistry
I didn't like Eloise, so over done and the other story lines as total snooze fest. The issue now with subsequent seasons is that the rest of the family are so bland and unattractive it will be hard to get excited by any of them.

They appear to have overlapped some of Colin's story in to this one...I won't say what but it's there if you have read the books
Febrier · 28/03/2022 17:22

Who got the title of the thread changed?? I'm getting a bit fed up of telly threads being started and there being a change of etiquette part way through.

I've watched the series and I have to say the storyline that is in the books, where Anthony is scared of how fragile his life is based on the story about his father and how he passed away - that isn't really dealt with in the mini-series. The whole storyline in the book about how they 'have to' marry - is dealt with completely differently in the mini-series.

I thought Anthony looked pained throughout the series. Like he was set a massively difficult maths equation at the start of filming and he was trying to work it out in his head throughout the filming of the series.

The game of Pall Mall in the book has Simon back in but in the series, he's not there, which is a pity as they could have brought Regé-Jean Page back for a scene or two...might have lifted the series a bit.

Trying to work out who Lady Whistledown is, is now bugging me because 2 people know and there is absolutely nothing to stop them blabbing to anyone and everyone.

I love the Benedict character and can't wait until his storyline is covered (if they stick to the storyline in the book that is. It's a pretty decent storyline).

I hope the above hasn't given any spoilers out....

That's why in the books it was necessary to introduce other families and other characters to interact with the Bridgerton family.

I just wish Eloise would carry herself better, when she walks as she lolls around the place. Deportment would have been very important back then, even if you didn't want to get married, being able to walk tall and carry yourself would have been very important for a lady.

WashedupTroll · 28/03/2022 18:01

I like that Eloise lolls around. Watching them play Pall Mall she can't even hold the stick still she has it over her shoulders. I agree she would be told off more for that but being a child/adult that can not sit nicely I really relate to her. She just doesn't fit in the life she has, I understand that.

Not enjoying it anywhere near as much. On episode 5 and have been half heartedly scrolling through MN. Series 1 I was hooked. However I do think Kate is stunning.

I think series 4 has already been commissioned? So hopefully we'll get it!

I do feel a bit like whatever they did with season 2 some people would be unhappy, I mean we all love Daphne and Simon but their love story is done. I would like to see Rege return, maybe he can do a George Clooney in ER type cameo!
