It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

What will I watch now it's finished? More of the same please. So trashy, pure escapism. I loved it!

NeverChange · 03/04/2022 17:26

I loved series 1 but didn't enjoy series 2 anywhere near as much, but not sure why exactly.

I love the music though and would probably watch it for that alone.

I've kind of lost interest but assume each season is one of the sibling's marraige stories. On that basis, I want to see the Elouise season (suspect she can marry who she wants given her mother's belief in true love but who knows) and also as much as I want Colin & Penelope to get together, I hope she has found some else and is happy but the time he realises he's in love with her. Love Nicola Coughlan, enjoyed her in Derry Girls too & she seems very down to earth.

I’d say Outlander but that’s starting to irritate me a bit now

queenofarles · 03/04/2022 22:42

One of my friends was most put out that the women didn't put on bonnets before going outside. that really bugged me in season one, also no pelisse or promenade coats , and just walking around with bare arms.
It’s truly a fan fiction like someone mentioned upthread, and all that wordplay and banter makes it look so silly and childish, that sex scene was so bloody uncomfortable to watch Confused.

Trixiefirecracker · 04/04/2022 08:06

I thought sex scene was great and very romantically done.

Flowersandwine12 · 04/04/2022 10:13

Question, why does lady featherington like the bridgetons? When she's telling the new Lord who he should target she says everyone but them. Is there a reason she likes them?

I don't think she likes them at all but they are an influential family who always stick together so I think she didn't want to be caught in the scam and deal with the consequences

Thats why they say the whole thing is part of a bridgiverse ...many customs,styles and behaviours were not around then.So watch,enjoy but don't look into mistakes as there are so many

It's not so much that she likes them but they have more power and influence than her due to Anthony's status as Viscount (and, tangentially, Daphne's status as a Duchess) and so she needs them on her side.

If/when the scam was discovered then she would need to be able to turn to them and plead her ignorance and innocence to what Cousin Jack was up to so that they would vouch for her with society and keep her status and have all the blame put on Jack so it didn't affect her or her daughters (and since Pen is Eloise's BFF and it would be her prospects most affected then the Bridgertons would be more likely to help her out if they thought they were hoodwinked by Jack)

Why do the rest of her family think Pen is hopeless?

LookItsMeAgain · 04/04/2022 11:51

@Rosehugger

Why do the rest of her family think Pen is hopeless?
I'm guessing that it is because Penelope is the youngest of the Fetheringtons and she is not the same shape/build as her older sisters....kind of like the runt of the litter (not very politically correct but perhaps how the youngest siblings would have been perceived)...maybe????
Rosehugger · 04/04/2022 12:07

Sure, thanks.

PaddlingLikeADuck · 04/04/2022 12:28

I’m currently re-watching Season 1 for the fourth time. I have no desire to watch the second season again.

I think that sums up my thoughts on how the two episodes compared Grin

workshy44 · 04/04/2022 13:30

The second season was slow to start but I ended up preferring it to the first. I actually thought it was far sexier and the chemistry was electric between the two leads
Lady Danbury was woeful though, such over acting but apart from that ended up really liking it

SmellyOldOwls · 04/04/2022 13:32

@Rosehugger

Why do the rest of her family think Pen is hopeless?
Because she's bookish and slightly overweight I imagine.
SmellyOldOwls · 04/04/2022 13:34

Sorry that sounds like those are qualities I think are hopeless - I am bookish and very overweight! I don't think the Featheringtons value those qualities very much is what I meant.

Why was Colin such a little turd at the end? I don't even want them to get together now, Penelope deserves someone really witty who really appreciates her.

It's not a documentary you know
Febrier · 04/04/2022 13:55

How did the Featheringtons' problems resolve? He's still the heir right? They're still in need of money?

Yeah. You'll be complaining about mobile phones that make an appearance in series 3.

@Rosehugger

Why do the rest of her family think Pen is hopeless?
Basically she's the youngest daughter of a family of girls who, so she has mostly been an afterthought.

The family's financial situation also made it harder for her - in S1 Pen is presented with her two older sisters at the same time as Daphne (whereas Eloise is allowed another year before her coming out season) because her parents couldn't afford to have multiple debutante seasons so presented all of their daughters at once. They had to prioritise their attention on Prudence and Phillipa as they stood a better chance of getting a good match.

Add in the fact that she is not popular, is bookish and prefers studying to socialising, is slightly overweight, dresses unfashionably (she's always in yellow because it is cheaper than other fabrics) and doesn't have a substantial dowry to offer any potential suitor and it just adds up to them not bothering to even try to find her a match.

I know Grin,
But it feels very amateurish.
I much prefer The Recent Emma movie Costume and set design. not accurate But far superior, it still has a fresh modern take but without overdoing it.

Rosehugger · 04/04/2022 16:36

Didn't Mrs F keep the money (or most of it) from the "investments" and make it look like Lord F ran off with it? While changing something in a legal document about the inheritance. Something like that- I was dozing off a bit at some points.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/04/2022 17:04

Yes, the Featherington was resolved in an absurdly short conversation, sneeze and you missed it.

Basically Lady Featherington realised that he was running a con on her by pretending to fancy her. During the fireworks at the ball he told her that she and the two unmarried daughters were going to be taken America with him (presumably to be abandoned or otherwise used in further cons). Then she told him that she had taken and hidden most of the money and left him with enough to get himself to America. She had already had the servants pack up all his stuff and he had to leave straight away because she was about to tell everyone that he had been conning people. She was also going to tell everyone that she herself had also been conned and had lost money to him. She had forged a document in which he agrees to pass over the title to the first son born to one of her daughters (I'm not at all sure that they could do that back then, but, you know one of many, many historical inaccuracies).
