It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

@queenofarles

It's not a documentary you know I know Grin, But it feels very amateurish. I much prefer The Recent Emma movie Costume and set design. not accurate But far superior, it still has a fresh modern take but without overdoing it.
Haven't seen it. Must give it a watch
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/04/2022 17:15

It’s truly a fan fiction like someone mentioned upthread, and all that wordplay and banter makes it look so silly and childish, that sex scene was so bloody uncomfortable to watch

If that sex scene made you uncomfortable to watch then you must be leading a very sheltered life indeed.

you must , it’s visually scrumptious !
Johnny Flynn is the best mr Knightly, major crush , and I’m not that into blondes Grin. his undressing and dressing is far hotter than any so called steamy scenes in both seasons of Bridgerton Wink.

ChardonnaysPetDragon far from it Wink,
But still i was grimacing , thank god for the fast forward feature , beautiful people but both are not great actors I’m afraid, but that bed cover appearing out of nowhere the next morning sure made me laugh!

I have binge watched the full series and after initially not warming to Anthony and K I really got into it. Some of the nuances need a bit of perseverance so I have watched some of it again. Particularly the sex scenes as actually they are really quite hot , with K actually coming across as a bit more confident and being more of a willing participant. I wasn't expecting him to put his hand up her skirt in the garden! Really lord Bridgerton! And then he offers to stop and she says ' oh no you won't' ! Surprisingly Loved it after a slow burn

BiscuitLover3678 · 04/04/2022 20:21

Omg yes that Emma movie! When he stripped down! Surprised myself Blush

PaddlingLikeADuck · 04/04/2022 21:31

I have to say that Kate didn’t seem quite as unfamiliar with men as Daphne had….

colouringindoors · 04/04/2022 21:45

Episode 5. I'm bored. Series 1 was so much better. I'm not sure I care about happens to anyone.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 04/04/2022 22:21

This season took a while to get into...I preferred season 1

Reflecting on it, with some exceptions (eg old episodes of Grey’s, occasional comedy in Scandal) Shonda’s shows and characters often lack humour. Or humour of the kind that’s the norm in British TV.

This series definitely did. Not the actors’ fault, the writers’.

You're right. Bridgerton is basically Jane Austen fanfic, but what's missing is Austen's snark. When I first read P&P, I was surprised at how funny it was (I was only 19 and most of the classics I'd read were serious stuff). Austen was so witty and Bridgerton needs a heroine who can verbally spar with a partner with some humour. The nearest it gets to it is the Queen.

For something so silly, Bridgeton is a bit po faced.

Sex scenes always make me feel uncomfortable, always have. I feel embarrassed for the actors. It's not because I lack sexual experience myself.

Why? It's part and parcel of their job, they don't have to take parts with sex scenes if they are not comfortable doing them.

Rosehugger · 05/04/2022 12:34

Sure, but neither do I have to enjoy watching them, or try to get comfortable with watching sex portrayed on screen.

GreenClock · 05/04/2022 12:37

Colin clearly has no romantic interest in Pen. I hope they don’t end up together. I’d like her to meet someone who thinks she’s brilliant and sexy.

I enjoyed S2 and didn’t particularly miss the duke because I found the new characters (the three Sharmas and Lord F) pretty strong. I hope we don’t continue to see actors leaving the show when “their” part is over but I don’t think that the show has a star so perhaps it doesn’t really matter.

I am looking forward to the prequel involving Queen Charlotte’s early relationship with the king in the 1700s. I understand that this will be made in addition to S3 and S4 set in the 1800s.

Silverclocks · 05/04/2022 12:40

Is Colin a funny colour in this series because he's supposed to have just come back from Greece? It seems a bit overdone Grin

He was my favourite character in the first series, but I don't like him at all in this one.

Yes i think so! But he looks like he's over done it with the spray tan than had 6 months island hopping Greek islands
Loopytiles · 05/04/2022 14:42

Johnny Flynn is handsome but all wrong for Mr Knightly IMO! He would be better cast as the one (Frank, maybe?) who flirts with Emma but is secretly engaged to Jane Fairfax.

diddl · 05/04/2022 16:28

Oh Lord-who went & mentioned Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightley?

Sings, plays violin-what's not to like?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/04/2022 16:59

I haven't seen Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightley but I liked him a lot in that other thing (Love Sick?). However I doubt he's as good as the best Mr Knightly which was, rather surprisingly, Jonny Lee Miller. Unfortunately that series of Emma had a terrible Emma (Romola Garai?).

Febrier · 05/04/2022 17:15

Yes, that struck me too. She wasn’t bothered about all that raunchy, extra-marital outdoor sex either. Not a chaperone in sight.

OP posts:
Silverclocks · 05/04/2022 17:27

I'm only half way through, but isn't that the point? That Kate is much more worldly, with the whole financial situation/looking after her sister's interest etc

WashedupTroll · 05/04/2022 18:23

Well I'm rewatching S1 and I have never wanted to be someone else in my life but I'd swap in a heartbeat and be Daphne, the bonking is hot, everything about it is better than S2 imo. I almost embarrassed about how flushed I feel!

Fiefofum · 05/04/2022 18:39

I loved series 2 so much more than 1! I rewatched 1 directly after 2 (so I could see more of Anthony’s ‘character development’) and then 2 again. Oh wow, series 2 is streets ahead! I was thoroughly bored by Simon and Daphne’s scenes (ended up fast-forwarding as I find Rege in particular quite a 2d character, not one I particularly liked on a rewatch) and the tension this time between Kate and Anthony was off the charts!! They knocked it out of the park this time Grin

I find Pen and the Featheringtons’ scenes a bit dull and grating tbh and would rather see more of other characters.

WashedupTroll · 05/04/2022 19:07

Funny isn't it how we are all so different, I genuinely would leave my husband for the Duke, but wouldn't touch the viscount with yours Grin

WashedupTroll · 05/04/2022 19:10

I also like the Featheringtons, I was on Pens side but since rewatching S1 I'm not so keen. Tbh Colin and Pen probably deserve each other.

Have I got it right that Charlotte marrying the King is why the Ton is now colourblind, Simons father makes reference to it as does the Queen.
