It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

I don't understand why Kate kept it a secret from her mother.

I also don't understand why the Sheffields would have been corresponding with Kate, when Kate was no relation of theirs and was the child of the man they disinherited their own child over.

Octomore · 31/03/2022 12:56

It would have made significantly more sense if the Sheffields had approached with Edwina or her mother directly.

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2022 13:53

I thought the grandparents had been in touch with Kate and Edwina's father not necessarily Kate.

Kate mentioned discovering it when she went through his papers.

Edwina's mum intimated that she had not made much of an effort to get involved in the practical side of life after her husband died and had left it all to Kate. Kate wanted to protect them both. So it mirrors Violet & Anthony after his fathers death.

Febrier · 31/03/2022 15:54

So the Sheffields are Edwina's paternal grandparents? They disinherited their son (Edwina's dad) because they didn't approve of his marriage (to her mum). However, they were happy to leave it all to Edwina? But only on the condition of... something to do with making a good marriage??

Kate cannot inherit because she is not blood related to the Sheffields. She is her mother's first child from another marriage?

So the Sheffields are Edwina's paternal grandparents? They disinherited their son (Edwina's dad) because they didn't approve of his marriage (to her mum).

Other way round - they are her maternal grandparents and they disinherited their daughter because she married Edwina's dad.

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2022 15:58

Edwina is Mary's daughter.
Kate is the daughter of Mary's husbands first wife (deceased)

Mary is the daughter of the Sheffields and was brought up in society but rejected a society marriage and skipped off with a widower (a mere clerk!) and his child. Hence Mary was disinherited and the Sheffield's named Edwina as beneficiary IF she will marry in to English nobility.

Febrier · 31/03/2022 16:01

Thank you! That's much clearer. So Edwina might bring a large dowry if the match is the right one. Kate has no dowry or means of her own.

(Also, the dressmaker has just referred to Queen Charlotte as the Queen of England which seems a rather glaring inaccuracy).

I preferred this series - less romping. Pretend shagging on tv is a bit tedious and I just feel sorry for the actors.

Let’s not take it too seriously folks. It’s basically regency era Downton Abbey. Ideal ‘watch while chopping veg for dinner’ tv.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/03/2022 16:14

Hence the bangles.

Febrier · 31/03/2022 16:26

Hence the bangles. Ah yes.

Well, I've nearly finished the series and I've really enjoyed it.

I've just finished S2. I thought S1 was fab but S2 has outdone it.
@kavalkada has said it well - more chemistry than you can handle with barely any touching/sex. Beautiful dialogues!

LadyTwinkle · 31/03/2022 17:06

Now that I've watched a few more episodes, I will concede that Anthony isn't quite as bad as I initially thought he was. Maybe the writers wanted to give both the viewers and Kate the same unfavorable first impression of him.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/03/2022 18:06

Did anyone else find that Edwina reminded them of Tai in Clueless? It bothered me for the whole first episode until I realised. Same curls, same big smile, same obediently following advice.

I don't get all the admiration for Anthony, he can't smoulder the way that Simon could and I kept noticing his ears which seem quite disproportionate to his head. Not all the time, from a distance they seemed fine but when the camera went in close I was distracted from the passion by the whole ear thing. Kate is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen though, eyes, cheekbones, acres of gorgeous skin. I really like angles and planes on the faces of both men and women, possibly because I have a round, pudgy face and wish I didn't.

LadyTwinkle · 31/03/2022 18:32

I'm quite fond of cousin Jack and the cake loving jeweller. I've only just finished episode 5 so I'm hoping neither of them turn out to be bad uns'.

Oh thank you. I've been wondering who she reminded me of for days!

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

All I could keep thinking as, “she reminds me of someone but I can’t think who….” and it was annoying me soooo much!!

But you’re absolutely right - it’s Tai!!

Ladytron11 · 31/03/2022 20:10

George III’s queen was Charlotte of Mecklenburg.

SometimesSunshineSometimesrain · 31/03/2022 20:57

@kavalkada

It seems like I'm the only one who loves Kate and Anthony much more than Daphne and Simon.

Daphne and Simon had lot of sex on ten different surfaces in first season, but I have never seen any real chemistry between two of them.

Anthony and Kate, on the other hand, their chemistry is off the charts.
Just that almost kiss at the end of the third episode had more chemistry than everything Simon and Daphne did.

And Kate is gorgeous and they look wonderful together. I loved Bridgerton the first season, but I have only seen it once. This season I plan to repeat.

There are things that annoy me. I think they picked the wrong music for this season. It had sense in tha last season, but not in this one. It just didn't work.

And Eloise, what a whiny brat. Must be the actress who doesn't know what to do with her hands. She is only bearable in scenes with Benedict. Penelope told her the truth in that last scene together. She is all talk, and zero action. And she talks a lot.

Anyway, I liked it, although screenplay is definitely not the strong point of Bridgerton. Simone and Jonathan did their best. And he was amazing. The way he portrayed broken Anthony was amazing.

I can't wait for the third season. I hope they will do Benedict and Sophie and not Penelope and Colin (he really is a wet lettuce).
But Sophie is the best of the Bridgerton spouses and Benedict is the best of the brothers, so I can't wait for their season.

@kavalkada I could have written this! I absolutely loved the chemistry between Kate and Anthony - Kanthony!! Loved her dresses too!
PaddlingLikeADuck · 31/03/2022 21:39

Just finished episode 4…..

The chemistry is definitely heating up now!!

I’m feeling all aroused….

AngeloMysterioso · 31/03/2022 22:40

Bangles?

Febrier · 31/03/2022 22:51

George III’s queen was Charlotte of Mecklenburg. Exactly, so she was very noticeably Queen of Great Britain and Ireland and then Queen of the United Kingdom after the union.

I think people are confusing “chemistry” with breathing hard whilst holding an expression like a vet is explaining something complicated about a poorly cat to them.

Kate really was dour. This series did very little for me, the Featheringtons were much more interesting than most of the Bridgerton lot. Roll on Benedict and Colin and I hope next season is more interesting.

OfstedOffred · 01/04/2022 07:10

I liked it and I thought the chemistry was pretty good in the context that this is Bridgerton, of course it's a bit of a cheesy romp.

I liked when Daphne catches Anthony & kate and he says "she's so aggravating"

Loopytiles · 01/04/2022 07:40

Watched the last few episodes. Enjoyed the costumes. Think the main problem is lack of humour in the script, so serious and earnest - dull!
