The first episode will air on 28th February. I think this is the last season. I'm going to state up front this thread will contain spoilers.

My plan is to watch the last episode of season 3 to refresh my memory.

We do not.
Would have been interesting had it been Irina, or another character (the ghost, Nico or even Yusuf as a trust nobody cautionary tale but then I would be moaning at that too).
You suspect it to be a trained mi6 sniper.
But it does not matter cos Villanelle got to be a martyr finally, off into the light with bloodied angel wing imagery. Righty-ho.
It still sucks as an ending. Grin

BadHairDayExpert · 13/04/2022 14:21

We should know a lot of things but Laura Whatserface clearly had no fucks to give in tying up loose ends or trying to provide closure. Glorious it was not.

foxlover47 · 13/04/2022 14:28

The longer the week goes on the more disappointed with the ending I am

Wutipg · 13/04/2022 14:42

Do you mean Carolyn killed villanelle? Eve didnt die did she?

BadHairDayExpert · 13/04/2022 14:51

Eve survives to live another day, although I did not get the 'relief' the writer insists was in her primal scream, just pain, grief and anger. Sandra clearly did not get Laura's memo either or ignored it
Meh.

BadHairDayExpert · 13/04/2022 18:12

Having watched it too many times to count I think they should have used the ending they had where Villanelle more overtly saved Eve by sacrificing herself and instead of Unloved, should have gone with Cigarettes after Sex (nothing's gonna hurt you baby) with a full 4 minute montage/flashback of best bits of them together.

Fortunately for me, who is too lazy to do montages, a fangirl had already done one a year ago. Enjoy!

CashewNut11 · 14/04/2022 20:35

Not impressed.

Why spend 2 episodes on Villanelle and her attempt at redemption and 2 minutes wiping out the 12.

My preferred ending, found on twitter, has Yusuf rescuing both Eve and Villanelle from the water - to then live their anonymous happy ever after.

... But that would have put a spanner in the works for the Carolyn Martens follow up series Hmm

... which I don't think I'll be watching. There's only so many wild geese that can be chased... Grin

CashewNut11 · 15/04/2022 00:08

Just to clarify - "Not impressed" refers to the ending and Series 4 NOT to the rather lovely "best bits" video Smile

louise5754 · 15/04/2022 08:35

Even the best bits video bored me.

I cannot see why they became so obsessed with each other.

Also I knew V and the Goat lady would end up kissing but why? Maybe they wanted affection but first V and Eve then Eve and Helene? I'd say the same if they were men / woman too.

The 12 aren't very good at their job. They seemed to stand there while she killed then one by one.

I really didn't like the Eve character one bit.

beguilingeyes · 15/04/2022 10:00

I have loved these people. Hated the ending. Oh Konstantin...
Why do they do this? I suspect that Better Call Saul will be giving them all a lesson in how to end a series soon.

Honestly dreading the end of Better Call Saul because I’ll be in pieces if Nacho or Kim die. And you just know something terrible is going to go down.

I liked Villanelle as a character but felt a bit meh when she was killed. I think her relationship with Eve was supposed to humanise her, but I never really felt that. I was just like, yeah, that was inevitable.

MissMarpleRocks · 17/04/2022 00:01

What a crap ending. What was the point of it. Felt like I did after watching Line of Duty. But to be fair I was probably more pissed off then as I’d rewatched all the episodes. At least that was during lockdown so didn’t feel too wasted.

beguilingeyes · 17/04/2022 09:08

I feel that this is often the case with telly now. A series is wildly successful so the producers want more and more, but often there isn't the plot to sustain it so it peters out into nothing. See also Broadchurch/LOD/Doctor Foster.
This also means that often the first season has no satisfying resolution because they're fishing for a second (Vigil?).
The Queen's Gambit was perfect because it was one and done.

NoisyBrain · 17/04/2022 22:34

Just watched the last episode and still had to come to this thread to find out who killed Kenny. Talk about confusing! Grin

Still not sure why Carolyn had Eve killed...

ISeeALittleSiIhouettoOfAMan · 17/04/2022 23:42

Yeah, the producer was evasive because endings so wishy washy.
Konstantin killed Kenny - revealed in the letter...or at least that was the note Fiona Shaw had been given when acting her scenes.
Producer was all shrug - yeah, probably. Writer was diverting from the crap denouement by saying what we are really meant to be interested in is Carolyn convincing herself otherwise, in order to stay in the game.
Then all the 'having to bring something to mi6' bollocks. Given she had found V and E to be dispensable before, I could have gone with it being straight forward endgame to mission had we not had...
Scenes in Cuba
V sparing her
Comment to H about not shooting in the back
covered by the caveat of her doing what we would not expect. Bunkum.
Had she ended up becoming head of 12 by default, no one else left so could take over, it might have made more sense but that would mean whole series of grief and first series of infiltration/in pursuit would be rendered meaningless/raise new questions. Her daughter being the Big Bad would have been a twist but again, previous series rendered most twists and any sense of continuity impossible.
Whereas had they gone with her bringing the end of the 12 (or at least those 12 present) to mi6, then faking deaths of V and E (being behind that with a dare you to live a normal life to V) then we could have had the translating/uni happy ever after of the original LJ books.

ISeeALittleSiIhouettoOfAMan · 17/04/2022 23:49

And I still think they missed a trick by not having new confrontation with Konstantin and the killed your own son twist.
Or the alternative that Villanelle had in fact come back from Spain and been on the roof and Kenny had backed away from her. But if Eve forgave/came to terms with Bill and Nico (and why she did, still no idea) Kenny would have been one step too far.

4 showrunners 4 separate series No overall arc

CashewNut11 · 18/04/2022 01:13

I haven't read any positive comments, err... anywhere! about the ending, and very few positive thoughts about series 4 itself, though such folk could just be lying low Wink

All well and good that the KE team opt for an ending that 'stays true' to the integrity/truth of the Eve and Villanelle story, but, hey, what about drama and the suspension of disbelief? Let's face it, any number of plot twists and turns could have been justified.

If V & E had had their 'happy ever after' who would have objected to that?! I mean, really!

In tough times isn't entertainment meant to offer us some escapism. (just think of the glamour of Hollywood during and after WWII), something that will cheer us up so that we can just get through the rubbish reality that we live in.

NoisyBrain · 18/04/2022 16:12

Ah the perils of posting after a few glasses of wine…I did of course mean I’m still not sure why Carolyn had V killed 🤦🏻‍♀️

NoisyBrain · 18/04/2022 16:15

I was also hoping that Nico might reappear before the end.

MissBattleaxe · 20/04/2022 12:59

Yep. It was crap. A truly great series that should never have had a fourth series tagged onto the end like a load of crappy fan fic. I don't how such a brilliant team let it become so crap in S4. No real plot, character arcs all over the place, still don't really know Helene's role or why V ended up on goat island.

Americano75 · 20/04/2022 20:54

I don't know, I just feel like E and V were never meant to be together. I've gone back to the start again and Bill's murder always gets to me. How did Eve ever manage to get past that really?

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2022 21:28

I loved Bill :(

Americano75 · 20/04/2022 21:51

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2022 21:28

I loved Bill :(

Me too. We didn't have enough of him. And he left behind a tiny baby that needed him.

JanisMoplin · 21/04/2022 15:23

Oh god. I persevered with this to get closure and I haven't understood a fucking word.

Why did Carolyn kill Villanelle?
How did V manage to kill the whole Twelve? Did they not have security? Sae with Helene. If she was so important couldn't she have forked out for a body guard?
Why did V go to Gunn's Island?
Why did Helene order Konstantin to be killed? ( That was the most senseless kill ever in keeping with this season. Please don't say he knew too much. Everyone knew too much)
Why did Eve kill Lars?
What did Konstantin write in the letter?
Who killed Kenny ? Didn't he fall off the building by accident?
What happened to Nico and Carolyn's daughter?

Everybody was running around trying to kill everybody else for the slimmest of reasons.

Feels like the writers just wanted to piss off and go on holiday, so decided they couldn't be bothered with a plot.

JanisMoplin · 21/04/2022 15:26

Oh also why did Helene order the kill on the Latina burgerseller? Forgotten her name.

And lastly, why does everyone who meets V become obsessed with her?
