If anyone needs another reason to avoid online dating, this takes it to another level! It's hard to believe this guy got away with it for so long.

All I've seen so far is someone trying to bag a multi-millionaire on tinder

Plot twist: it doesn't go well

FairyLightAddict · 02/02/2022 20:52

Makes me glad I'm far too poor and street smart to swindle.

I can't believe she got $250,000 in debt without alarm bells going off 🚩🚩🚩🚩

Gilda152 · 02/02/2022 21:11

And he'd asked for money within a month of dating but she said yes because she was 'in love' by then.

F*cks sake.

IcyWinterWonderland · 02/02/2022 22:30

I watched it as well. I felt very sorry for the women but at the same time I couldn't believe they did not see that he was just using them

Seems he's still getting away with it. Only served 5 months out of a 15 year sentence, is dating a model, spending like there's no tomorrow and openly running a business.

I got the two Scandinavian women confused at times. Did he have a thing for Nordic ladies? I loved the Dutch woman and the way she flogged off his designer threads. Not that it came close to the money he'd taken off her, but I'm sure it made her feel good.

I think his MO was 'proving' to them how fantastically rich he was right from the start. Taking them on private jets, paying for lavish dinners at extremely expensive hotels, having a 'bodyguard' with him at all times. So when he asked them for money, they saw no reason to believe he wasn't just a temporary emergency because he was loaded, wasn't he?

I'd love to think I'd never be so naive as to be taken in by what seems like such an obvious scam, but none of these women seemed stupid to me. This guy was a pro and had his act down to perfection.

mscynical · 03/02/2022 08:39

Weird that he spent it all on living an Instagram lifestyle. Didn't invest or buy property it appeared. Still he had his act down to a fine art - over £10 million estimated to have been swindled!
Loved the Dutch lady Smile

I guess if he was making serious investments or buying property, red flags might be raised as to how he came by all that money? Whereas nobody is going to check if he buys 50 Gucci jackets or stays in £5000 a night hotels?
Thethreecs · 03/02/2022 14:11

Watched it last night. Thought it was very good. Was shocked at how little time he served. Was shocked that he never had to repay anything to those he swindled. There was so much evidence against him.

I would like to think we'd all know when being conned, but he really did have it down to a fine art. The shortest time before he started his plan was a month, by then he had spent huge amounts of other people's money on them and shown them a rich lifestyle. It would be difficult spotting the red flags, he had everything covered, from photos of the attack, bank transfer documents, paperwork with the company logo, fake photos, so much more including so many involved in the scam. I think if you meet someone and they're flying you on private jets, staying in 5k a night hotels, most expensive champagne, finest food you could easily get caught up. Some of them weren't even girlfriends, some were just friends. He knew how to draw them in, gain their trust and the right time to start his plan.

Hopefully it does make people think and be careful. It's not your usual scamming storyline, these women googled him and he came up as part of the diamond company, he had every corner covered.

I did laugh at the woman collecting his clothes, brilliant.

Couldn't believe the end with him with the new girlfriend and flash cars and helicopter, and he's now a free man.

MrPenguinsPoppers · 03/02/2022 16:10

Just watching this. They keep talking about 'instant connections' and I suspect they were instantly connected to his wallet.

I agree. This wasn't your 'Nigerian prince' level of scam. It was way more sophisticated than that. Easy to say you'd never be fooled but who knows?

Did we find out if the little girl was really his daughter? Wasn't her mum one of the Finnish women he had previously scammed?

sociallydistained · 03/02/2022 17:45

A friend of mine was swindled on a much smaller basis but it started with lavish gifts on the first date onwards. His job was ridiculous. It was all too good to be true I sensed the red flags instantly but my friend just wanted it all to be true and I guess it's different when you're in it. His card was stolen at first and he needed a loan then it got more and more ridiculous. Turns out he was wanted by police and was doing it to multiple women.

I'd be out of this instantly cause no way I'm ringing a bank let alone daily 😂

purplesequins · 03/02/2022 17:55

is this like the animal cruelty sleuthing show last year?

Yes, he wasn't much to look at and didn't seem to have much personality either, beyond his cash.
Bunnybunny1 · 03/02/2022 20:29

I can’t bear to watch another man fuck another woman over. Honestly, I worry that all these many many TV shows about men killing/ abusing/ ripping off women are causing us to see it as entertainment rather than to question why SO many men feel such hatred towards women.
It’s disturbing.

Made by the same people isn't it?
jane7779 · 03/02/2022 20:47

Just watched it ....shocking.

Makes me think that at least one upside to being skint !

mirabellemadrigal · 03/02/2022 21:02

He went to extraordinary lengths to dupe these women

I would never accept a date with somebody like that in the first place?

I guess its a certain type of girl thT he targets

Absolutely. They thought they were bagging a millionaire. I can't begin to understand why any woman not blinded by money, hops on a private jet to another country with a man she doesn't know.

Life isn't fifty shades of grey. Millionaires don't walk into places and whisk you away. What he did was abhorrent and cannot be excused, but these girls were completely blinded by the cash. One of them even Quoted Marilyn Monroe from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

"Don't you know that a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You might not marry a girl just because she's pretty, but, my goodness, Doesn't it help?"

mirabellemadrigal · 03/02/2022 22:14

I agree. Would never get on a plane with a stranger! But im very suspicious of any bloke on Tinder

I wonder how many women blew him off after the first date or opening tinder message because he gave them the ick?

And i don't think genuine billionaires go on Tinder and instantly fall for sweet ordinary girl next door types over coffee. Their egos were well and truly massaged.

But he was very clever about what he did and how he did it. Clearly not working alone

I might have dreamt this, but I'm sure there are exclusive dating apps for millionaires.

The body guard was dodgy, no way he couldn't have known what was going on. The last one who stole his clothes made me laugh though.

WhyYesYABU · 03/02/2022 22:34

Did anyone else enjoy the strength of the Dutch girl who sold all his clothes? I know she still lost a lot but she seems to have coped remarkably well with the fall out. I made my daughter watch it!

IcedPurple · 03/02/2022 22:53

Yes. No offence to either of the women, who were perfectly attractive, but slick young billionaires don't go on Tinder to pick up random women and then fly them off on their private jets, talking about marriage within weeks.

I know it's easy to have your head turned, but come on!

RightOnTheEdge · 04/02/2022 00:21

I've just watched this. I can't believe he's basically got away with it and seems to be carrying on as normal and still loving the rich lifestyle.
It amazed me how he managed to keep up with it all. All the women and the lies and the travelling! What stage he was at with each woman and who he was talking to!

I'd love to know more about the other people involved, the so called bodyguard and business parter and his ex with the child.

mirabellemadrigal · 04/02/2022 07:22

He must have had a massive spreadsheet to log all the information for each woman

Ayleen, what a hero! Love her

It's unfortunate that women aspire to meet a rich man who can sweep them off their feet. Impress them with his ridiculous clothes and sunnies 😎

I guess if they seem too good to he true, it's a huge red flag

If I'd seen him on Tinder, id not have swiped left.
