It’s on over 4 consecutive nights I think. Haven’t seen anything about it other than on the tv schedule.

I saw trailer for it last night. It's about the HillsBorough disaster

Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/01/2022 19:32

Oh, I’m not sure if I can watch that. It’s such a sad, horrific event.

It's about Anne Williams who lost her son at Hillsborough and was one of the key people who led the fight for justice.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/01/2022 21:16

Maxine Peake stars in it and she’s a brilliant actress I think.

It is heartbreaking already. Dp has refused to watch it.

Lifeispassingby · 02/01/2022 21:22

I read her book years ago when I was a teenager and it was heartbreaking, really looking forward to watching it on catch up, DH is unsure about watching it as he was there that day

GrandTheftWalrus · 02/01/2022 21:26

I was only 4 when it happened so have learned about it through Internet/TV etc. I am also a steward at football games and we are shown this at training etc.

Gooseysgirl · 02/01/2022 21:35

Those absolute BASTARDS from The Sun Angry

Those absolute BASTARDS from The Sun

Time and again they behaved like this
(still do if they can no doubt) when something like this happens.

I remember watching the Leveson Enquiry and seeing the mother of a murdered young woman describe how her son (teenager I believe) committed suicide because of the harassment and the lies the gutter press told about his sister.

GrandTheftWalrus · 02/01/2022 21:47

This is also being aired on the 51st anniversary of the Ibrox disaster where 66 people lost their lives.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 02/01/2022 21:47

And Christ, it's heartbreaking. I've been crying for the last 30 minutes.

Pegasussnail · 02/01/2022 21:47

Watching (love Maxine Peake)

It's just tragic Sad

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 02/01/2022 21:53

I’ve been a football fan my entire life. I watched Hillsborough unfold live on TV at the time. I was only a teenager but I will never, ever forget it.

It will be a permanent stain on our justice system that Anne Williams and the other families had to fight so long and so hard to have the truth recognised about their loved ones.

Snuzzle · 02/01/2022 21:54

Don’t think I can watch it as I was there that day but Anne was a magnificent lady and should have her fight and determination acknowledged

murasaki · 02/01/2022 21:55

Such hard watching. I'm not a cryer as a rule, but this is too much.

Pegasussnail · 02/01/2022 21:58

Was the mark on Anne's face at the start relevant (missed the first bit)
Thanks

murasaki · 02/01/2022 22:02

Interesting that the script writer was at the game. And also spoke with Anne many times.

Toomanypeople · 02/01/2022 22:02

Utterly heartbreaking what those people have been through

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 02/01/2022 22:03

Pegasussnail it’s a birthmark.

Holothane · 02/01/2022 22:03

It’s heartbreaking I’m watching it. Excellent cast though.

Pegasussnail · 02/01/2022 22:07

Thanks only dh said that after I'd posted.

Gooseysgirl · 02/01/2022 22:07

It was horrendous. I also watched it unfold on tv as a teenager (we were watching as my brother is a huge Liverpool fan) and I remember my usually very restrained mum distraught at what was happening and leading my then 8 year old brother away from the tv. None of us will ever forget it.

Maxine Peake is excellent.

sageandbasil · 02/01/2022 22:08

I was crying at the trailer I can't watch this it's too sad

user1471453601 · 02/01/2022 22:10

I am, and was, a lfc supporter, who saw it unfold. Under no circumstances will I watch this. I'm sure it's very well acted and accurate, but I read every single days transcript of the second inquest (I felt I owed it to the 96, now 97) thanks to lfc website. I cannot do it again.

And now I'm weeping buckets just thinking of what it.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 02/01/2022 22:44

I watched it. Very hard and made me cry a couple of times, and that's not like me. I worry that it's being ghoulish to watch and in a way wish I hadn't seen this episode. I don't need to see some of those scenes dramatised. I am interested in seeing the long fight for justice and it helping to make the level of lies, corruption and cover ups more widely known.

This is petty but her wig is bloody awful.
