New series tonight at 9pm ITV - Anne

It’s on over 4 consecutive nights I think. Haven’t seen anything about it other than on the tv schedule.

I found it a harrowing watch. DH got up and left the room during the first advert.

Maxine Peake is excellent.

The sheer insensitivity with which the families were treated, being passed from pillar to post, having to identify their loved ones from a bunch of polaroid pictures on a pinboard, having to go back to that exact same place for the inquest, the interviews the police were giving to the news media.

With what we now know is to follow for the next 3 episodes - incompetence, lies, cover-ups.

Utterly horrific.

I remember the story at the time, and the news stories and inquests since, but now, as a parent myself, it's almost unbearable to watch the way those families were treated. Kevin was just a child. Anne must have had such courage to keep fighting for justice all those years.

Catching it tonight and I was distraught for most of the first episode. Very harrowing. I was 23 and remember it all well, but seeing it through a mother's eyes again .

I watched all 4 episodes last night too. Very moving. And really does highlight just how appalling the families were treated, time and time again. To go through that after losing loved ones. Unthinkable.

Why does she have bruises on her face? Is it implying she was beaten by her husband?

I’ve watched them all. Absolutely horrific tragedy.

The truth of the matter seemed so obvious at the time- those in charge had screwed up. It’s beyond belief that people went to such efforts to cover their arses.

I’ve watched all the episodes now too, and I feel wrung out. So powerful, so sad. I have a swinging brick for a heart but I was periodically in floods at this.

I have just finished it and I'm in pieces. Anyone who buys or supports the Sun newspaper should be made to sit and watch it.

Just finished all episodes. I can't believe no one was prosecuted over it. Unbelievable.

Is it safe to say previous judges and in previous enquiries people were bribed and put under pressure to give the verdicts they did which wouldn't allow new inquests.

I've not watched the 2nd episode yet. I just find it so sad she died before a proper result

The state pulled Rank :( Maggie hated Liverpool after the riots in 1981. She was privy to all the evidence from the Taylor report that blamed the police but it was all suppressed. It didn't help that the families were working class either

The truth was always in plain site - if you watch the docudrama by Jimmy McGovern, it's pretty true to the findings made at the second inquests. The s*n and others such as the spectator swayed the general population into apathy and believing the cover up version of events

It's abhorrent that no one has been held responsible.

When Boris was editor of the spectator he published this - just as bad as Kelvin McKenzie IMO.

There was an amazing BBC documentary a few years ago with Phil Scratton in who helped the families fight for justice. It was beyond heartbreaking when a mother said she wasn't allowed to hold her son after he died.

BBC Hillsborough documentary available on iplayer. This has the interviews with Prof Phil Scraton.

That was the article dinah that began with him intimating that Liverpool was making a fuss over the kidnap and execution of Ken Bigley. Odious.

Remember it vividly. It was three weeks after I lost my dad, I was 14 and me and my mum had taken a bus to another town to do some shopping. On the way home the bus driver had the radio on and I remember it coming through.

Thankyou Anne for all your hard work, I’m so sorry for your loss, your little boy Kevin was beautiful.

I just felt I had to write this somewhere, now as a mother of two boys now who was very young when Hillsborough happened and didn’t really understand what you were all campaigning for years.

Following on from the end of the series, there is a documentary on this Thursday, 6th Jan 2022, ITV at 9pm The Real Anne: Unfinished Business.
Anne is a true hero and will never, ever be forgotten by the supporters of Liverpool Football Club.

Just watching episode 2... I had no idea my uncle was one of the judges that declined the second inquest until his name came up.
