I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

I gave up on it after the very woke podcast segment, persevered to the end of the episode as wanted to see what the BIG thing was. Haven't bothered going back.

Loved SATC, hate AJLT.

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 10:57

@AdditionalCharacter the funny thing is - all us women who watched it the first time round, are presumably “not woke enough” to enjoy this ? Who are they making it for?

OP posts:
maddy68 · 21/12/2021 10:58

I'm enjoying it. It's more gritty. Although yes the wokeness is a bit irritating

AdditionalCharacter · 21/12/2021 11:00

@TheRemotePart exactly. Trying to get a younger audience who weren't there the first time round to enjoy (or understand) the original series.

workshy44 · 21/12/2021 11:00

Yes they have completely missed their target audience. I mean everyone who will be watching will be 40+ so why all the gender nonsense when that is Cleary something that only teenagers and other people with nothing to do actually care about !

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 11:09

I really don’t know whether to put myself through the misery of another episode..
Christ, @maddy68 is there not enough gritty stuff on the tele? Lol. Can they not leave us the shoes and fluff? Wink

Yeah I’m completely for representation but I do hate it being inorganic and forced. I’m gritting my teeth…
I thight it was funny when Stanford call Charlotte mate “black Charlotte “ and I thought “ oooh! Are they ALLOWED to make a little joke now?”

*obviously SATC2 was a bit close to the bone in a few scenes lol.

I only watched the first episode, and I always loathed SATC, anyway, so I'm hardly the target audience but it made me wonder who on earth IS the target audience? And who wrote it? Because I'm 49 and don't rush about all day bemoaning my age in literally every sentence, would have found that 'podcast' and the ticking off from the unbearable host (Sara Ramirez you used to be so cool!!!) would have brought out my gender critical grande dame who would have put everyone in their place immediately. Surely it's completely incredible for an already successful writer who is married to a very rich man to need to humiliate herself with that kind of smugly prurient nonsense? The Big masturbating scene was as excruciating as the 'PM having sex with a pig' episode of Black Mirror.

And what on earth is with turning Miranda, the only one from the original series with an IQ higher than her shoe size, into a babbling, dimwit, menopausal lush?

I'm assuming this is a team of younger writers trying muddle-headedly to bring in a new generation of viewers..?

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 21/12/2021 11:25

Watched the first 2 episodes last night, it was everything I had read about. Woke and more woke.

But I quite enjoyed it in parts, some of the fashion was a bit questionable esp those Oscar de la Renta dresses, and what was Miranda wearing most of the time. But must say Carrie looked fabulous at the funeral. What has Charlotte done to her face? I could not take my eyes off her mouth.

Anyway apparently the 3rd one improves shall see later when I watch it.

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 12:01

@Corbally yes the flapping Miranda was a bit hard to watch

When she kept digging and apologising to the prof at every opportunity? I feel like she would’ve said “ hey, I’ve said sorry can you accept it now, please?” Hmm

I didn't enjoy the first episode at all - so clunky, too much exposition, sign posting all the 'changes/inclusivity' but I'm into 4 now and getting into it. Finding the reflections on ageing, grief, starting again much more interesting.

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 19:40

@Bobbybobbins it’s just making me think :is this what we’ve got to look forward to? Sexless marriages? Deaths? Piano recitals?

OGenkiDesuKa · 21/12/2021 19:45

I’m enjoying it! I’m in my 20’S and all my friends the same age are watching it and have watched the original series.

ItsSunnyOutside · 21/12/2021 19:49

I didn't find it as funny and it was all very PC to the point the storylines felt forced.
I miss Samantha too.

Fadingout · 21/12/2021 19:59

Awful. I’m so disappointed. Very woke with all their gender nonsense. I’d have liked to see older strong women. Instead they all look ridiculous.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 21/12/2021 20:04

Just wish samantha was in it !

Morgan12 · 21/12/2021 20:15

It's awful. Really really shit.

And it would appear Kristin Davis has forgot how to act. She is so bad its embarrassing.

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 20:16

@OGenkiDesuKa so you enjoyed the new version and the old?

What about the new one did you enjoy?

OP posts:
TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 20:17

@Morgan12 well I dislike to comment on appearance, but I think she was actually unable to move her lips properly to say her lines Sad

OP posts:
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 21/12/2021 20:19

Turned it off half way through the first episode, so cringey

TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 20:20
  • although I did enjoy typical Carrie spiralling cos he left his ex money. I just assumed it was Guilt Money. This, at least , was on brand for her hahah
OP posts:
TheRemotePart · 21/12/2021 20:21

@Dontforgetyourbrolly was it Big wanjking by any chance? Cos I had to fast forward that bit LOL. I can watch Samantha on a swing swing without batting an eye, but Carrie drawling “ masturbate for me… I wanna watch “
Boake.

ballsdeep · 21/12/2021 20:23

It's bareable But I agree with the box ticking.
And I thibk kristen Davis cant act because her face can't move!!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/12/2021 20:31

I'm going to give it one more episode but mostly finding it a bit cringe. I hate what they've turned Miranda into and this suggestion that women in their 50s are too old and stupid to understand and be aware of current issues is irritating. YY to the previous poster who said that Charlotte having a tomboy for a daughter would be funny. But tbh I'm finding all American TV shows are trying just a bit to hard to signpost how right on they are at the moment. It's tiresome and tick boxy.

felulageller · 21/12/2021 20:51

How do they pretend to be so woke bit get away with the racist stereotype of the adopted Chinese DD being the feminine musician one!

Are tomboys banned now?

What the f did KD do to her face?! It makes me think more of SJP that she at least let her self have wrinkles on TV.

At least in the old days it was aspirational. There's nothing aspirational about this.

It was sex and the city and now only one of them is (maybe?) Having sex!?!

DSGR · 21/12/2021 20:54

Hated the first episode, enjoyed the second more and am now into it on the third show. I won’t love it as much as SATC but I like seeing all the old characters
