I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

I saw a really good Tiktok where someone pointed out that Miranda was always the early adopter with technology in the original series. She had Tivo in a time when Netflix and VOD was almost unheard of, she had Lasik surgery in the 90s when most people were extremely skeptical of it, and she also helped Carrie set up internet and email. So it's completely out of character for her to turn into an out-of-touch, alcoholic "Karen" which is what the series is trying to portray her.

Assuming she was early-mid 30s in the original series, people do not change that much in the 20 years. I'm late 30s now and cannot imagine my attitude towards social media and technology being any different 17 years from now. Based on friends, those who aren't active on social media and don't keep up with technology have always been like that since their 20s.

I am 50 and have 16 k followers on Twitter, as do many of my 50 something friends some of whom act work in tech.

DaggerIsle · 23/12/2021 17:26

No way in hell would Samantha have sulked over losing Carrie's business.
She represented A listers and worked for Carrie as a favour.
That's complete character assassination and it reminds me of the rumours about Kim Cattrall turning down a 3rd film over money.

theluckiest · 23/12/2021 17:41

I can't tear my eyes away and am enjoying it on some level but I don't remember Charlotte being such a dick.

And I'm sure Kristin Davis used to be a much better actor. She's verging on diabolical. Maybe my tolerance has decreased over the years...

LondonWolf · 23/12/2021 17:42

I’m enjoying it but the shoehorned in wokeness is excruciating.

Yamayo · 23/12/2021 18:09

The problem is they seem to be frozen in time.
Carrie in particular got increasingly immature in her relationships- this whole idea of the fairy tale love was frankly exhausting.
They are carrying on in exactly the same vein (eg the recycled Natasha storyline) and it's making them look ridiculous.
The fashion, too, looks very costume-y, just like it was in later series, where Carrie was wondering around Paris in Dior Haute Couture and bérets.

Benjispruce5 · 23/12/2021 19:20

Had to laugh at Carrie in a wedding dress underskirt in ep4 . Really?

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/12/2021 19:29

I loved how the lady in the shop gave her a funny look for what she was wearing.

Instead of being ridiculed / looked at in disdain by young women - is actually see Miranda mentoring them, perhaps learning from each other.

And no doubt Carrie will end up with the podcast producer - the one with the grey hair who laughs at all her jokes. Not seen ep4 but suspect he appears again, laughing.

Can't she end up on her own? Why does everybody have to have a partner?

felulageller · 23/12/2021 20:32

The 4th episode was better.

The Charlotte/race story was painful though.

Harry's my favourite character of this series!

lonsdaleshorts · 23/12/2021 20:35

Ep 4 much better. I am enjoying it but there is something missing.

The fashion is amazing though. Except Carrie’s white skirt from ep 4. Loving Miranda’s hair.

I don't know. I was an early adopter of facebook & instagram in my 20s (00s). I loved instagram & had quite a few followers. I've not had an account in years as I stopped using it when facebook bought it & don't have a fb account either. Never looked at tic tok.

dundydee · 23/12/2021 20:46

You think this is a good thing? 😆

dundydee · 23/12/2021 20:46

It's only my 50 yr old colleagues who still use facebook tbf.

dundydee · 23/12/2021 20:52

Don't any of them ever wear jeans and trainers?

I don't think they've ever dressed like that though

Benjispruce5 · 23/12/2021 21:17

I think Miranda looks better than she did younger though you can see the telltale Botox in all their foreheads as they crease in the wrong place.

dundydee · 23/12/2021 21:18

The guy on the podcast boasts about masturbating at various locations across NYC.
In another episode he brags about sleeping with a minor.

Perhaps it's because i'm old but I felt how Carrie did!

Benjispruce5 · 23/12/2021 21:18

I loved Big and Carrie’s apartment decor and hated the beige wipeout. The Charlotte dinner party storyline was so cringe. Seemed like Charlotte hadn’t grown up at all.

Unmerited · 24/12/2021 03:34

As far as putdowns go, that’s on a par with the Natasha wearing flats one.
dundydee · 24/12/2021 04:28

It's not meant to be a put down, I was just stating a anecdotal fact. My older colleagues & older family members love it, the younger ones not so much. Gen X apparently are the second most prominent generation on social media. In terms of facebook I believe it's growing in popularity amongst those age 65 plus.

dayswithaY · 24/12/2021 07:31

Charlotte and her new friend are giving me the rage. Two rich, soppy, idiots who giggle and obsess about school trips and dinner parties. They are so sickly sweet it's just nauseating to watch.

Charlotte speaks and acts like a moronic robot.

Hopefully Lisa with the clunky jewellery will end up being a con artist or a swinger, otherwise she's just too good to be true.

Miranda's professor discussing her private business and IVF with a student over dinner? Would not happen!

It was all worth it just to see Carrie in that white skirt walk down the steps of her apartment. I could watch that all day.

Fadingout · 24/12/2021 08:16

100% agree with @Orreries.

I’ve stayed watching but I’ve skipped bits. Nothing wrong with masturbation but in public is grim. And there’s really nothing funny about sleeping with a minor.

Che’s whole rant during her comedy bit was ridiculous.

Charlotte thinking one black woman was another sad.

Women of a certain age are invisible and I’d like to have seen these women who have lived for years in the city be shown as strong women. Mostly they seem befuddled at the world around them. It’s disappointing.

DifferentHair · 24/12/2021 13:02

@Coffeeshopcookies that's such a good point about Miranda being tech savvy in the original series. Another example was when she wanted to talk about her palm pilot instead of men. I agree that she would have kept up with technology and be a lot more switched on than they are portraying her now.

TheRemotePart · 24/12/2021 19:40

Well I’m glad it wasn’t just me who was “Meh” … I haven’t watched the 4th episode and I normally hate spoilers, but I don’t know now whether to put myself through it? MORE woke agendas? Charlotte mixing up black people?
I never minded them making fools of themselves ( Carrie , fag in mouth, on the bed trying to break into that guys box?) but I just dunno…….
