I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

@dayswithaY

Yes. Totally

drawhander · 22/12/2021 12:16

I'm disappointed in SJP and Cynthia Nixon for acting this script

NandorTheRelentless · 22/12/2021 12:27

Miranda is supposed to be 58

I thought she said they were 55?

drawhander · 22/12/2021 12:28

Are Charlotte and Harry plus two kids still living in the apartment she lived in with Trey?

🤣

NurseButtercup · 22/12/2021 12:35

@ttcpatronisers

I am enjoying it!! Not so sure about the funeral episode but the first one I liked.

Not sure why people find the 'woke' aspect so irritating. It's a reflection of modern life obviously exaggerated but these things are happening in the world - a black lecturer with braids probably wouldn't be taken seriously by many - I think it's good they're highlighting these issues?

Transgender is everywhere so why the issue?

I agree with you.

AJLT is definitely not the same programme as SATC, we are at episode no.3 and people are still very loudly complaining & having a hard time accepting the changes.

A lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon to complain that AJLT is too woke. The "woke" aspects are making people feel uncomfortable & this was done intentionally. The "woke" elements accurately reflect my personal & observed life experiences. So it's interesting and mildly jarring to read how many people are vehemently denying that any of these scenarios are realistic.

If AJLT is so terrible why are people still watching???

NandorTheRelentless · 22/12/2021 13:14

If AJLT is so terrible why are people still watching???

Because they had hopes and dreams and nostalgia.

cosmopolitanplease · 22/12/2021 14:25

Great post @Orreries, I agree with everything you said

cutietooties · 22/12/2021 14:29

It's ok but if it just me or is Charlottes acting terrible? It's like two different actresses

Mufasa1118 · 22/12/2021 14:32

I'm enjoying it! I like to see what they are doing later in their lives

5thHelena · 22/12/2021 14:58

I agree it's bizarre!! She's become so wooden!!
dundydee · 22/12/2021 15:00

Are Charlotte and Harry plus two kids still living in the apartment she lived in with Trey?

Isn't it worth millions & part of her divorce settlement?

mintich · 22/12/2021 15:05

I'm really enjoying it!

Benjispruce5 · 22/12/2021 17:21

I watched a couple of episodes from series 5 when they went to Atlantic City for Charlotte’s 36th birthday. It was sooo cringe , they came over as silly, girly and desperate, not intelligent sassy women. I think nostalgia is making your expectations too high. It’s great, mindless, escapism for me and makes me feel young at 50! Btw I have two friends with hearing loss in their mid 50s and menopause can cause havoc with knees. Grin

Newgirls · 22/12/2021 17:30

I thought they were quite girly in the original series? Charlotte of course. Carrie too. Not sure why this is a surprise now? Even Miranda had her clutz moments.

Andylion · 22/12/2021 17:39

it I guess they have to acknowledge a new agenda and how they navigate their way in a changed society..

I think Carrie’s narration would be useful in addressing the need to navigate a new society. Now they just seem like three women who have been asleep since the last movie.

NurseButtercup · 22/12/2021 18:48

LoL I get that but we're 3 episodes in ....

AJLT is clearly not the nostalgic fluff & escapism that was SATC

JacquelineCarlyle · 22/12/2021 18:48

I'm really enjoying it! I watched all 6 seasons back to back and then both movies just before watching AJLT and I think it's a good continuation.

It's not perfect but seems to be getting more and more into its stride with each episode.

LittleBearPad · 22/12/2021 21:43

@dayswithaY

But the characters have turned into boring fuddy daddy confused old ladies. Have they been locked in a room since 2004? Why are they so fazed by gender issues, successful black women, technology, social media.

They were sassy career women in their 30s who had lived and thrived in NYC for years, why are they being depicted as maiden aunts on a day trip to Manhattan gawping at all the crazy young folk.

Charlotte saying they will all smell of weed after watching Che's stand up. Are they seriously suggesting she never went clubbing in New York around weed before? We've watched the earlier series, we know what they got up to!

They really weren’t career women - of the three who are left the only one who could be described as such was Miranda who has now turned her back on her career.

Charlottes been unemployed since she was married to Trey.

Carrie had never lived in the real world.

UglyModernWindows · 22/12/2021 22:14

I'm enjoying it, as PP said, it's like catching up with old friends.

The first episode was painful and I really, really, really dislike the slobby male podcast co-host. I agree Carrie would have her own, she was a published author and would have enough clout to have her own.

I love the clothes, not something I'd wear but fun feast for the eyes.

UglyModernWindows · 22/12/2021 22:17

I'd love Berger to make an appearance! I know he was pathetic and jealous but I'd love to see if he had matured at all. And he was cute.

I never really liked Miranda. She was a fool to ditch the sexy doctor for Steve.

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 22/12/2021 22:18

They have completely different personalities and don’t really seem to like each other anymore. Carrie couldn’t have given a shit about Miranda’s drinking could she? And I liked Steve and Miranda as a couple but it’s depressing now. Carrie seems to be a bit miserable and bitchy. And Samantha would’ve never fallen out because she wasn’t carrie’s PR person anymore EVER I thought it was a really stupid storyline, they could’ve had her move to London but still be friends etc.

TangledUp789 · 23/12/2021 04:21

Of course Carrie gives a shit about Miranda’s drinking. Carrie and Miranda always had the closest relationship out of the four girls. The ‘stop noticing things’ comment is because she cares and is worried about Miranda. And she can’t handle the stress of that on top of losing Big.

Unmerited · 23/12/2021 04:43

It’s as though they’ve decided women over 40 have depressing and miserable lives and so served us up some more depressing and miserable to watch.

Miranda - intelligent, successful, experienced and mature, white, corporate lawyer - absolutely must have turned into a dithering idiot and a raging racist of course. Could be worse though, usually middle aged women are invisible, so at least she’s fully visible to the young people judging her.

Charlotte’s daughter - bright and intelligent, doesn’t wear skirts. Must be a boy then. (is there nowhere to hide from this madness?)

Samantha - I know I’m going against the grain here but I always found her an overblown, cartoon style character, so I don’t miss her hugely.

Missey85 · 23/12/2021 04:48

Its trying to hard to be woke! The original was a escape from all that the new show is to preachy its also not the same without Samantha

Unmerited · 23/12/2021 04:59

It’s not so much that it’s trying to be woke, as that it’s trying to show how middle aged women are not woke. Which is hilarious given we’re the ones battered over the head to ‘be kind’ all the time while simultaneously looking after children, parents, working and god knows what else.
