Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

'The grief vampires at the funerals fit exactly with what my experiences.'

Loved that too, very well observed

DaisyNGO · 09/12/2021 20:57

@Loudestcat14

Oh my god, I'm so glad I've found this thread!!! I am livid how they've turned Miranda into someone awkward and silly – she was always too self-aware/self-critical to ever put a foot wrong in a professional setting, so there's no way she'd have screwed up her first day at college being a closet racist/terf! And Steve's like a hobbling old man now! They're only 55!!!
I agree she wouldn't have assumed that lady wasn't the professor, but she hasn't said anything to make her closet racist/ terf.

And just like that, the divide begins 😂

PurpleDaisies · 09/12/2021 21:02

I’ve only see the first episode.

Samantha would never have ditched Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda like that. She’s a mature, sensible woman. And they all love each other. It’s just not realistic that they wouldn’t have spoken for so long. Still, I guess it’s good that they’re leaving the door open for her.

I totally agree. That just didn’t ring true at all. I’m assuming Samantha didn’t come to the funeral? There’s no way that’s realistic given their old relationship.

I think killing Big was a good idea.

I couldn’t give a shit about any of the children. I really hope they don’t make them big characters although they clearly will.

I found charlotte’s plastic surgery very distracting.

Youdoyoutoday · 09/12/2021 21:06

Charlotte has ruined her face, too puffy.

Brady is highly annoying with all the shagging.... he's like an on heat puppy!

I am looking forward to seeing the rest though.

allycat4 · 09/12/2021 21:15

I'm sorry but I still don't understand why she didn't call an ambulance and do cpr while she was waiting? He was still alive!

Trigger warning ....

But you know when someone's about to go....😭 when it's more important to hold them as they die than to call 911 to what will be a dead body though I guess you could argue she could do both...but the whole point of them looking at each other like that is he knows and so does she. He will have held on like buggery just to lay eyes on her again.

I might have seen too much death.

DaisyNGO · 09/12/2021 21:36

Unpleasant stuff aside, looking at the timing, Sam can't go to the funeral from the UK due to covid.

Which I sort of which they hadn't mentioned but I see why they have to.

Oh, the subway incident....the fear and loathing in NY is worse than London, I gather, so I found that believable. But I wonder why Miranda isn't in a cab....have they become too pricey even for her?

They've packed in so much. I might start a thread on the Creative Writing board actually, otherwise I'll bore the Manolos off you all.

RaPumPumPumPum · 09/12/2021 21:38

Just watched th first episode.

Wow! What a shock - was not expecting that at all! SJP acted her arse off, I cried.

My thoughts

  • I think it’s quite realistic about 55yo women and how they’d grow to be. Miranda was never tactful, and I can absolutely see how a woman her age would struggle in college with people who are not only 30 years her junior and perpetually offended by everything. Felt a bit bad for her, she can’t do anything right! Charlotte was ALWAYS going to be a nagging mum as well
  • weird seeing Brady have sex
  • how did they find an actress who looks exactly like a Harry and Miranda hybrid!
  • this is not SATC, it doesn’t have the humour or charm of the original but as a new chapter, which it clearly is, it’s a lovely series on its own
BonesInTheOcean · 09/12/2021 21:39

@Youdoyoutoday

That build up with the piano!!! Wow!!

But overall so far, I'm not sure. I've just finished watching episode 2 and Carrie is coming across really selfish again, she's said a couple of lines that I thought were really selfishly insensitive.
Miranda is coming across as a silly old woman (plus being set up to be an alcoholic) who keeps putting her foot in it and Steve is still useless and now why deaf?
Charlotte still seems to the princess soriety girl with her fawning over LTW and wanting her girls in floral.

I'm glad they didn't kill off Samantha completely, I think it was explained well, with a slight dig at reality. The flowers were a nice touch though, very Samantha, I thought.

That build up with the piano!!! Wow!!

Cheesy as fk!!

RaPumPumPumPum · 09/12/2021 21:39

I do wonder if killing off Big is just a reason to give Carrie a new Romance

And that Lisa lady is clearly supposed to be a Samantha replacement

Depends on where she was going.

If she was meeting the other girls in midtown, yes, a can would be ok.

But if she was going home, a cab from 116th St to Brooklyn would be a lot of money.

Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 21:51

Wow. Killing off Big. As others say don’t like the woke changes and what they have done to Miranda. I can only find two episodes, I am not missing something am I?

Good points on both!

Miss Sam though. The replacement isn’t a patch on her.

RaPumPumPumPum · 09/12/2021 21:57

Also how gorgeous is Sara Ramirez! She really rocks any look

I just looked it up, c$65

Damn. I bet the subway is worse now than in my days.

Also, I was confused where Miranda lives now because the house didn't look like the big house they moved to. I'll have to watch it again. The real estate is important to me 😂

Also, wasn't she living in a flat when she and Steve were apart? Maybe there's a change that I missed.

Lottapianos · 09/12/2021 22:00

She's stunning

There's only two released.

What do you mean about the woke please?

TSSDNCOP · 09/12/2021 22:03

If Miranda were 85 maybe.

I'm 53. I also have a teen son. I work in a woketastic environment.

I have never seen anyone make such a dick of themselves as they had Miranda do.

Youngatheart00 · 09/12/2021 22:13

My thoughts

  • was more shocked and sobby than I thought I be about Big’s death
  • can’t work out if they are being Woke AF or taking the piss out of Woke AF…the second movie makes me think it’s more option one
  • charlotte’s face is upsetting
  • but - I’m already addicted and wishing the whole box set was available
EachandEveryone · 09/12/2021 22:19

I can finally come tomthe spoiler thread. I’ve just seen the first one I’m in bits! I loved the music. Just debating watching the second one with wine

TheAnswerIsDontThinkAboutIt · 09/12/2021 22:20

@VodselForDinner

I liked this photo of SJP with Matthew Broderick and their son James at the premiere.

I’ve never seen anyone look like more of a mix of their parents. He’s Broderick from the nose up, and Parker from there down.

Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid's son!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/12/2021 22:28

They're taking the piss out of Woke but Miranda was always really sharp so no idea why they're making her look like she's been asleep for the last 20 years.

Carrie was utterly desperate when she said "Now what do I do?" How is that seem as selfish ? Confused

escapingthecity · 09/12/2021 22:31

Only watched episode 1 but thought it was excruciatingly bad. The acting was awful, the outfits ridiculous. The desperate attempts to be relevant by touching on every possible current identity debate just embarrassing. Not sure I will bother to watch more.

escapingthecity · 09/12/2021 22:37

@DaisyNGO there was that reference to Stanford staying in her old flat....
