Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

Id say Big is broke but that would be quite predictable

YouGotThisKeepGoing · 10/12/2021 06:54

@TowandaForever Dorinda Medley was the only Oman at the funeral bearing the unknown grudge.

The Susan-Sharon character from the book and series is supposedly based on Dorinda Medley from RHONY, who was friends with Candice Bushnell back in the day. Her first husband was supposedly the basis for the nasty husband character.

The skit at the funeral was pretty much just a straight copy of Dorinda as a real Housewife. The secret grudges, the passionate monologue, the hand gestures, the stompy walk off. All Dorinda.

I’m surprised she didn’t say “I made it nice” or “I’ll tell you how I’ doing. Not well, bitch.” Although she kinda did say similar things.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/12/2021 06:56

The fact you can rent a casket in NYC if you are opting for a cremation (genius)

You can do that here in the UK too,it was an option 10 years ago.

x2boys · 10/12/2021 07:08

I'm not getting why Steve was so upset about Big,s death?
I don't recall them being friends in the original series ,in fact Steve was Friends with Aiden
Unless they became close in the intervening years ?

YouveBeenLittUp · 10/12/2021 07:31

I noticed the shoes too - they were royal blue not purple!

I thought the flowers from Samantha were a nice touch.

I cried buckets, I expected it but it was so so sad Sad

On the whole though I found the episodes, I don't know, a bit awkward?

Was great for nostalgia to see them all again and I'll keep watching it but I hope they get better!

ToughTittyWhompus · 10/12/2021 07:33

Yes Big was a prick to her but it seems that in the (however many) years since, they’ve had a really good relationship.

Northernsoullover · 10/12/2021 07:45

I really enjoyed it Blush. Yes, there were some awkward moments and the first 20 minutes were awful. It did get a lot better and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. The podcast and Mirandas awkwardness in college definitely had my toes curling. I think its going to be quite hard hitting in places.

trickytrudy · 10/12/2021 07:52

There's no way Samantha is coming back.

'Sarah Jessica Parker could have been nicer'

1910username · 10/12/2021 07:55

@HangingOver
Yeah Willie Garson, consummate professional. That funeral must have been surreal and terrifying for him, all of them really.

There’s a moment in the funeral when him and SJP stare at each other for like, 3 seconds, which broke my heart.

icelollycraving · 10/12/2021 07:56

I found it really catty when they talked about Samantha. The story of her not representing Carrie and being bitter was ridiculous. I really disliked their view of Kim Cattrall colouring the writing so much.
The cisgender Carrie talk show was nonsense. She wouldn’t be scrabbling around to be relevant in that way. The masturbation scene was so cringey, I lost interest at that point. Does anyone remember Sam answering her phone “I’ve told you, I’ll be masturbating all day” Grin
Charlotte would have been kinder about Miranda’s hair, she was always polite, maybe a little saccharine but she wouldn’t have said that.
I also thought by Miranda going in to a bar called Smith, it would lead to delicious Smith being back in it. She was a relevant, confident lawyer. The lecturer would not have been the first black woman with braids. They fucked her over.
Felt like they shoehorned too many things in to appeal.
I adored SATC, it was so ground breaking at the time. Lots of friends identified with the characters. Not sure we would now.

They were a similar age so I guess it forced Steve to confront his own mortality.

I indentified with it in the original series as I was young and single meeting men etc I can ,t identify with the current series as I'm not living a glamorous lifestyle 🤣
Whitney168 · 10/12/2021 08:34

Thought the first episode was a horrific mish-mash of wokeness and shoe-horning stuff in. Settled a bit more in the second episode, so think it's a good thing they showed two on the first day, or I might not have bothered going back - will stick with it.

There did seem to be huge arrows pointing to all sorts of things from a mile off - Big clearly going to have a heart attack, Miranda clearly going to have an alcohol problem, Rose going to be questioning her gender, hot man behind the glass clearly going to feature later etc.

Kristin Davis' face such a shame - sure the other two have had stuff done too, but basically just looking great for their ages. Kristin just looks daft. (I actually can see that Charlotte would be horrified by Miranda embracing the grey LOL.)

I agree. The other two look amazing. Poor old Kristin

EachandEveryone · 10/12/2021 09:03

I’m hoping all the wokeness was for a laugh and it will be back to normal next week. I maybe kidding myself but I’d like to think it was just for fun.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 10/12/2021 09:08

@chiefcha

Why did Carrie just stand there? Why didn't she call an ambulance? I found that a bit unrealistic.

The title is horrible - the turquoise italics look like something from Windows movie maker. Really weird.

I’m so glad someone else noticed the titles - they’re like bad PowerPoint animation from the 90s 🤣

They’re making Stanford behave like a dick which is a bit unfortunate, knowing what we know😢

TedImgoingmad · 10/12/2021 09:23

The cisgender Carrie talk show was nonsense. She wouldn’t be scrabbling around to be relevant in that way.

I actually can believe she would be scrabbling. The "sex" in "Sex and the City" was rarely about Carrie. In the original series, she was not the sexually adventurous one or the "with it" one. Quite the opposite, she was pretty conservative and tied to ideas of traditional romance. The sexual liberation and openness to challenging gender norms was more or less all Samantha, with a bit of Miranda thrown in. Even Charlotte, and her trials and tribulations with Trey and some of her bfs (like the tongue guy) had more adventurous sexual encounters. Carrie just wrote about their experiences, and probably got a reputation as a "with it" writer because she wrote about stuff that was not talked about and was thus ahead of its time - without actually experiencing any of it herself.

The modern day podcasters and vloggers are all about themselves and what they go out and do, unashamedly and narcissistically. Carrie, let's remember, struggled to go for a poo at Big's, couldn't get her head around her bi sexual boyfriend, couldn't do the casual lover thing, couldn't do the bed hopping thing. She wanted romance, big love affairs, emotional connection, comfort and great sex without any of the weird stuff. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with any of that, I'd say she represents the majority of women. But that's not what today's - porn addled, penguin gender, sealion sexual blah blah blah how can I look interesting - commentators on sex and relationships are about at all.

TomAllenWife · 10/12/2021 09:23

I loved it Smile
I was only going to watch one and ended up watching until gone midnight!!!

I felt that Miranda was 'lurching' a bit when she walked - why? It's like she's transformed into my 75 year old mother when I'm guessing she's only 55.
Thought the death was done well. I don't think I could've watched Carrie & Big all loved up with no drama.
Poor Charlotte, she needs a better aesthetic doctor, you'd think with all the money they could get it right.

I'm just so glad it's back Smile

chiefcha · 10/12/2021 09:27

OK so it seems that Carrie still has her apartment so that when we find out that Big was actually in huge debt, she will have somewhere to live after she is forced to sell up. There will be angst over where all her shoes should go and she'll have to start using the oven for storage again. They'll sit around talking about old times and how she's gone full circle. Maybe she'll put the tutu on.

But in the real world why would she still have that apartment? It's empty because we know Stanford stays there sometimes...wouldn't you rent it out?

I don't disagree, but she wouldn't have gone on the show. She'd have been doing her own thing which was relevant, but in her own style and personality. She'd be talking about the affect menopause has on mid life women, or dating after a mastectomy, or something. Not talking to a twenty year old about wanking in public.
KillingMeDeftly · 10/12/2021 09:39

I really hope Rose turns out to be a GNC girl rather than a boy. Cynthia Nixon is the producer though, so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think that's what her career path will be going forward, probably after some angst about trying to stay with the Che audience.
