Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

@AnnunciataZ

It was a decent episode but I could've done without the rabbi's ridiculous parody of womanhood.
Yes!! It was very in your face, peeing in the ladies, being ditzy, 'girl talk bonding' etc Ick
mirabellemadrigal · 03/02/2022 10:21

I didnt think i could dislike Che any more until this episode

mirabellemadrigal · 03/02/2022 10:43

How did Bigs remains fit in such a tiny little bag?

Human ashes take up a smal suitcase

Youdoyoutoday · 03/02/2022 11:01

OK, I'm on the fence, I'm not sure I liked it or not.

The orange dress was waay OTT but that's Carrie all over. The dream/flashback was weird as obviously Big was missing so it didn't seem to flow right.

Charlotte's pink dress was hideous and very unflattering!! Rock I'm finding quite annoying and Anthony telling them straight was good.

After the text messaging, I did have a glimmer of hope for Samantha to come waltzing in to some Parisian cocktail bar looking fabulous, sexy and full of the sass that this series is definitely missing.

The kiss at the end.... that didn't seem to as spontaneous as it should have been, carrie seemed quite rigid.

As much as I don't really like the new miranda and Che thing, miranda did have a point about not having to stick to her own rules for life, I guess we can all try something new if we want to even if it's different to what we've done before.

I do know that if they do make another series, I will watch it.

sansucre · 03/02/2022 11:04

The Miranda and Che stuff aside, I actually enjoyed most of And Just Like That - it was like seeing old friends, and a nice way to start Thursday.

Sweetpea2021 · 03/02/2022 11:47

@DaggerIsle

Am I the only one who burst out laughing when Carrie showed up wearing that ridiculous orange dress on the bridge? Also why would Big want to be in Paris? The city where he met and fell in love with... Natasha. He was always meant to be NY.
Exactly. I think Carrie was totally selfish. She should have let him be in his family crypt. It was obviously important to his brother. Now he's in a Paris river. All about Carrie and her feelings as usual.
Wanderingowl · 03/02/2022 11:51

I've just started watching and saw the podcast bit where they are talking about worst break-ups. Why didn't Carrie tell the Berger post-it story. Especially as it ends with her getting busted for smoking a joint and the cop agreeing to dropping the charge to smoking in a no smoking area and quoted the post-it note to explain why he wouldn't let her off completely. That's a much better story than, 'my husband died,' again. Especially on a sex stories podcast!!!!

I thought the same. I was waiting for her to tell the story.
CloseYourEyesAndSee · 03/02/2022 12:02

I know!! The post it story...
Also, everybody dumps by text these days. Dumping over FaceTime is actually quite decent by 2022 standards.
They REALLY need to write that podcast better. Nobody would listen to that pile of drivel IRL.

KillingMeDeftly · 03/02/2022 12:07

I was fully expecting the worst breakup story to lead to Berger and the Post-It. I was rather disappointed that it didn't!

The rabbi didn't act like any woman I know but was certainly not dissimilar to many a gay man I've met! Or indeed Anthony, who I think has proved himself as the underrated MVP of the show. Rock was an ungrateful little sod and deserved the talking-to from him but I guess that's tweens for you!

Is Miranda going to get to LA and find out that there's little more to Che than talking about herself and her gender identity?

No word on season 2 yet but I'm not sure how it's done in the ratings.

Youdoyoutoday · 03/02/2022 12:20

Yes, where was the post it note story? I was waiting for that too!

BitcherOfBlakiven · 03/02/2022 12:45

Carrie being supremely selfish as usual, chucking Big in a river rather than the family crypt, for fucks sake. Her dress and gloves in that scene made me laugh so much I couldn’t focus on her scattering his ashes.

Anthony bollocking Rock was great.

Charlottes dress was horrendous and ridiculously unflattering.

They’ve thrown too much shade on KC via this show for her ever to return - if they wanted her to, they should have just said she was stuck in London due to Covid, shown a few text exchanges, but no, they wanted us to believe that Sam had fallen out with Carrie because she lost her Z list ass as a client.

greatape · 03/02/2022 13:00

Weird episode I thought

Fucking hell how cringe was the singing bit. I know Sara Ramirez has a great voice but ffs that was just dreadful. As was all of the Miranda stuff as per.

The big dresses - charlottes and carries were just awful although I loved the pink and gold paisley one Carrie had at the very end. I did also love podcast guy but didn't see any chemistry.

Loved the they mitzvah except the Rabbi who just seemed like a camp drag queen rather than a woman. I did quite like Rock not wanting a label and the horror of her not wanting to be a New Yorker. Obviously Antony was amazing.

Also the funeral she chose for him was awful. He was a catholic and in the old sex and the city used to regularly attend church with his mother.
KillingMeDeftly · 03/02/2022 13:05

Harry reaction to "I don't even wanna be a New Yorker" was hilarious. I still love Harry! I also thought his reaction to Rose becoming Rock was the most genuine.

Youdoyoutoday · 03/02/2022 13:06

I know that Kim will never return due to what's gone on, and to be fair, rightly so if that's the way she feels, but I did just feel a glimmer of hope though I knew it wouldn't happen! Shame though as this series was definitely missing her.

What else am I going to do with my Thursday mornings now? I might have to watch the whole box set and then the movies and then this again!

x2boys · 03/02/2022 13:31

I think the series definitely got better as it went ,less in your face "Education" and more about their lives ,I hope if they make another series they take note of that .

Wanderingowl · 03/02/2022 13:43

It's so obvious that Rose/Rock's problems stem from Charlotte going over the top with everything. She didn't feel comfortable as the type of hyper-feminised girl that Charlotte was pushing on her. Then when she reacts forcefully to that, by 'not feeling like a girl' and wanting to be called Rock, Charlotte doesn't simply re-title her gender-titled religious ceremony but she goes and buys hundreds of Pride flag yarmulke, decorated the whole place in pride and trans flag coloured bunting and had pride themed drinks. When at absolutely no point have we ever seen Rose/Rock identifying themselves that way. And even if she did, not everyone who is gay/bi or even trans, want every single aspect of their life dominated by their sexuality/identity. In fact, most gay/bi people, campaigned for a very, very long time to be treated largely like everybody else. They may take pride in who they are, but if they are having a religious ceremony, they might not want it themed around that part of themselves. The party would have been better with no theme or maybe a skater theme. Rose/Rock is bratty but I kind of don't blame her.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 03/02/2022 13:54

Charlotte's dress - bridesmaid circa 1984. Just hideous, what did she do to piss off Wardrobe that week?
Was I the only one who thought Carrie was wearing Marigolds in the ashes scene? I honestly thought that she was feeling icky about touching Big's remains, so had gloved up 😂.
DH was fascinated by her orange dress, he really wanted to know how those huge puffy sleeves stayed so rigid.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 03/02/2022 14:21

Don’t even get me started on Bigs funeral - I’d have thought he’d have left very firm plans for it and his final resting place. He thought to leave Natasha money but not those things? I ain’t buying it.

FinallySomeNormality · 03/02/2022 14:25

I moaned on this thread before about how I hated the OTT woke references and, even worse, how Miranda's whole character had been downgraded ... I didn't think I'd stick with it to be honest.

But I found myself looking forward to Thursdays by the end. It's still not a patch on the Original series but I've enjoyed it more as it's gone on. I find Charlotte and harry the funniest now.

Still sad about Miranda. Totally weird how she's dropped everything in her whole life (husband, competitive internship, son(?), friends, New York) for Che who she barely knows and who doesn't seem to care much about her in return.... it just doesn't seem true somehow. She was so independent and driven originally - they were great qualities in a female cast so it's sad she's become some selfish lovesick naïve schoolgirl somehow.

DaggerIsle · 03/02/2022 14:32

Rock specially says they don't want to be a boy, or a girl, or non-binary in this episode.
In their words 'can't I just be me'?

Also the funeral she chose for him was awful. He was a catholic and in the old sex and the city used to regularly attend church with his mother
Big was WASPY baptist/presbyterian wasn't he? I remember Charlotte being impressed with the church he was attending, definitely not Catholic.
The bridge in Paris was silly- yes, they re-united there but there was such an emphasis on Big and old NY. All I remember of Paris is her throwing a Bigmac at him when he tells her she shouldn't move there just because of him.

You are probably right. I know he went to church. I might be getting confused with the priest that Samantha was trying to sleep with 😂
