We're there no cameras on the torpedo deck?

CorpusCallosum · 20/09/2021 22:32

Aren't 'they' the Chinese now? 💁🏻‍♀️

nannannanana · 20/09/2021 23:07

Isn't it fascinating though. I knew of trident. Didn't really know what it was. Just that we needed it and still do.

But to live on a submarine like that. Wow. Nerves of absolute steel. On any submarine.

I was chatting to a customer and his dad was a submariner. I couldn't do it. I am ex forces but that what they do day in day out. Just wow. The nerve. I couldn't do it I don't think.

Makes you really think doesn't it. People do this day in day out.

JanglyBeads · 21/09/2021 00:16

Naval commander said at one point it was 12 hrs since they had sent the message,: yes and the comms cable was on the contaminated deck.

LavenderAskew · 21/09/2021 06:54

Do they fill the torpedo whatsits before firing torpedoes out? I imagine they do - so does Doward intend to fire Amy out? Not sure he could rationale explain that mind you!

billysboy · 21/09/2021 08:25

Lucky there was a light on inside the torpedo tube !

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2021 08:30

True @billysboy

One would expect it to be total black of darkness

Like most on here, I am not a Suranne Jones fan but that last scene on Sunday was her best yet!

lazymum99 · 21/09/2021 09:06

The real documentary on channel 5 is an eye opener. Other than there hasn’t been any murders yet a lot seems to be going wrong. The submarine seems to be falling apart. Gas leaking, blocked toilets. One of the sailors missing an order and being chucked out of his seat. And also chasing off a Russian submarine.
It’s like they are playing war games in the mid Atlantic. I had no idea this went on.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 21/09/2021 09:10

This is the daftest show I've seen for ages but I love it. Not sure whether the silliest bit last night was them waving that tin of nerve gas around in its carrier bag or navy police woman openly chatting about russian infiltration of trident in the middle of the CND camp. And all the scenic shots of that bloody Renault Megane Grin. Can't wait for next week! Had to go and make toast the moment gurny suranne went in that tube 😱

MrsFin · 21/09/2021 10:45

Does anyone else think that Suranne doesn't look remotely like an Amy?

FreezerBird · 21/09/2021 11:33

No idea how I manage to walk around in a dry suit all day when kayaking, it's a black one too - hours of fun on a sunny day. Never needed ice cubes pouring in it though!

But do you wear a massive heavy helmet with it? I assume that's what made the difference.

At first I thought they were meant to be deep-diving suits but that makes no sense - and also I think they wouldn't tear that easily.

LavenderAskew · 21/09/2021 12:16

Not sure dry suits are the same a deep sea diving suits. Or did they say it was a dry suit?

Did tear just a tad too easily didn't it!!

TwoDrifters2 · 21/09/2021 12:21

Two things:

  1. If I was going into a heavily time-pressured situation where I had to have my wits about me and move swiftly & carefully, taking in every detail of an about-to-be-bleach-sprayed-crime-scene, I think I’d probably tie my hair back. You know, because if it fell in my eyes, I couldn’t really do much about it in a diving suit & massive helmet, & it would hugely impede my vision & movement. Just a thought for next time, Amy.
  1. I know she has bigger issues to worry about in the torpedo tube, but did anyone else shudder uncontrollably at the thought of just how utterly freezingly icy cold that water must be?!
TheUnexpectedPickle · 21/09/2021 12:26

I thought the same as a PP- why is everyone Scottish? I assume it’s because it was filmed in Scotland by BBC Scotland but surely it would be rare to have a navel vessel with so many people from one part of the UK?

Also yes, very lucky the torpedo tubes are so well lit.

KillingMeDeftly · 21/09/2021 14:04

The Russians (or is it the Chinese?) must surely have a spy fairly high up in the ranks? Otherwise how could they ensure that Doward would replace Burke?

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 21/09/2021 14:08

@TwoDrifters2 Grin. The hair thing occurred to me too. Artistic license though, innit.

GrandmasNightgown · 21/09/2021 14:16

I don't think the Chinese are involved - I think the peace-camp guy is trying to defect to them because he believes they are uninvolved (and probably the only country with a mission in Scotland who would be remotely interested in what he has to say about Russian plots against British submarines, without turning him in - he could hardly go to a NATO ally!)

What if the decontamination theory is accurate - and the sinister engineer is actually a goodie? The water ebbs, she's cleaned off, and the inacapacitated coxswain is presumed to be the baddie?

But it's actually the captain? Or that engineering officer?

iklboo · 21/09/2021 14:47

I loved how she was meant to be near dead on her feet from heat exhaustion and her hair was perfectly dry. I only have to look at a frying pan for my locks to be a sodden mess.

Makes no difference!!

A drysuit is a drysuit, it's the layers under it that keep you warm - Navy divers will have fleece undersuits, electric undersuits etc - the drysuit is just to keep water off, it's a standard thickness.

The helmet won't make a blind bit of difference - unless you're daft enough to make someone wear one who's never worn one before..... Wink

Gardenwalldilema · 21/09/2021 16:14

Me again, I'm confused as to why the Russians/ Chinese wanted Burke dead, he was whistle blowing and surely an ally of sorts. Can anyone shed any light please?

Newgirls · 21/09/2021 16:18

I am assuming once the tube fills with water she is then ejected into the sea? So he can say he hasn’t seen her. Nope she she didn’t come in her, try the canteen.

Presumably there's a big red button that the captain and another senior has to press in order to eject the torpedo. It won't go off into the deep blue purely because it's been loaded. Hopefully.

Well considering it's the same production company that also made Line of Duty & Bodyguard it would be hilarious if it was 'H'........ Lieutenant Simon Hadlow the engineering officer 🤣

I'm wondering if the Captain is as 'nice & good' as he's supposed to be 🤔

Haha I thought the same
