Listening to Shrine pod now. They are so hilariously clueless it makes me laugh.

They're currently saying they think that before Vigil most people didn't know about the nuclear deterrent. Yeah, Trident's never in the news is it?

EmotionalSupportBear · 29/09/2021 11:42

someone should have shot Doward soon as they got to the shore imho.

iklboo · 29/09/2021 13:18

I was surprised he hadn't 'fallen down the stairs' a few times.

species5618 · 29/09/2021 17:23

I thought Doward might lift up his arms when being winched into the chopper - referenced in the first episode

Was it Silva or Doward that was told?

(I might have had the same instruction during offshore training).

JemimaTab · 29/09/2021 19:46

I did find it a bit unlikely that Doward left a hand-written threatening note for the cook. I’m really not sure that’s how top-secret undercover types operate. And it was downhill from then on, I thought.
I did enjoy the series as a whole but felt a bit let down by the finale. I felt that, dramatically, we were owed a better explanation of Doward’s motives - a meaty interview scene, which we didn’t really get. And some sort of closure on the coxswain - his cheated-on wife and kids turning up didn’t give us that. There was also far too much of Amy’s back story which I didn’t think was needed.

Standrewsschool · 29/09/2021 21:12

@Dragonpox

I liked the bit where he was chasing her through the 'red' area and she was running but he was just plodding around quite happily Grin
I thought that. I commented to my dh that could have easily caught her.
MrsFin · 29/09/2021 21:19

The whole lesbian affair back story was unnecessary.

Standrewsschool · 29/09/2021 21:20

Another thought, at the end, Amy went to the house and walk straight arounD the side of the house to the garden. How did they know Poppy was in the garden? Surely they would have rang the doorbell first?

Unless she'd sent a text saying she was on her way but not let Poppy know?

species5618 · 29/09/2021 23:34

Ekofisk
Silva when she was being strapped in the harness.

LavenderAskew · 30/09/2021 06:00

I think they added the lesbian back story because there just wasn't enough drama in it.

Though I think they missed a trick, when Silvs and Whatsit were having thier emotional make-up in the middle of the road outside Poppy's grandparents' house, they could have been dramatically plowed down by a Russian (who was unconnected to the whole Doward thing, but happened to be on his/her holiday from being in a Russiab submarine).

Whatsit could be killed - emotional scenes follow, then Silva is shown looking all all vengeful.

BOOM! Series 2 the bag - where Siva because a British spy, pretending to be Russian on a Russian submarine. They could work in iklboo's story too.

Dragonpox · 30/09/2021 06:15

I'd have taken the extra three days on the sub rather than get on that helicopter again. I cannot imagine the amount of vomiting that I would go through in that thing.

Standrewsschool · 30/09/2021 08:38

Would you get on a helicopter with someone who just tried to kill you? Didn’t she go up the steps immediately after him? Why didn’t the military police go first?

geojellyfish · 30/09/2021 10:06

Just watched all six eps over past few days. I really enjoyed it, back story and all.

I think you needed it to get a better understanding and empathy for Amy since there wouldn't be as much opportunity on the sub in high stakes situation among people who are all strangers to her. Clearly wasn't so successful for some people though!

I think Doward being a psychopath as explanation makes most sense given his actions on the boat. He wasn't making intelligent or logical decisions, he was just terrorising.

Not in the Irish news anyway, it being a different country and all that.

This also makes sense because its what James bond would do if he were told to sabotage an enemy sub and it all went a bit wrong.

Dragonpox · 30/09/2021 15:47

And James bond is clearly a psychopath

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/10/2021 17:48

Albeit a nice psychopath 😂

Well yes, I get that, and I'm not massively surprised they weren't aware of it - it was the thinking that up to Vigil hardly anyone knew about it that made me chuckle.

I know they're based in Ireland, of course, but the podcast has a huge reach.
