Overall quite disappointing. Felt like not alot of reward after sticking with it for 6 somewhat confusing weeks.

Ekofisk · 26/09/2021 22:32

@GoingBackToBed

So, which submarine sunk the trawler? The Russian one like they claimed, or Vigil and they've covered it up?
The American one that was following Vigil - the Navy found evidence in the trawler’s nets.

The Yanks....
Ekofisk · 26/09/2021 22:34

Lots of loose ends … the whole storyline about the incident in Florida went nowhere?

Or is that going to lead to Vigil 2?

It was the American submarine Delaware that sunk the trawler as they were shadowing Vigil.

The U.K. agreed presumably to blame the Russians because BFF's with the US and also because of quid pro quo re: the incident in the US where 2 American contractors died because a crew member on Vigil left his post and they got "steamed" to death but it was reported as accidental drowning.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 26/09/2021 22:36

I liked it. A happy ending for Amy so that pleased me.
And everything wrapped up nicely.
Though the look in Prentice's DD's face when she saw the top navy brass on the doorstep 😢 she knew straightway.

faithfulbird20 · 26/09/2021 22:37

Thought it was crap tbh. What a waste of 6 weeks.

BreadInCaptivity · 26/09/2021 22:40

All a bit far fetched imho but enjoyed it none the less.

Was a bit sad about Prentice, but I'm always a sucker for a pompous twit who redeems himself.

Upshot is it wouldn't have worked as a ploy.

There were far too many coincidences and stars "aligning" for it to have happened.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2021 22:43

The ending could have been better IMO

I went to know burkes secrets

Or was it just the fact he was asked to ruin vigil , but didn’t

I think it was just that.

He knew there were issues but was also loyal to his crew.

He understood Jades concerns with Trident and wanted to be with her.

I suppose his biggest secret was knowing he'd been approached by the Russians (according to Doward) and though he'd turned them down, he'd not reported the contact (which he should), presumably to protect Jade.

He knew he'd be perceived a security risk with a GF in the peace camps.

Fundamentally if he had done the right thing and reported the contact then none the other other events would have happened.

Dragonpox · 26/09/2021 22:52

I liked the bit where he was chasing her through the 'red' area and she was running but he was just plodding around quite happily Grin

queenjaneappro · 26/09/2021 23:05

That was a bit of a rubbish ending IMO.
The stabbing was horrific. No need for that when I'm bloated from my Sunday roast.

FromBeanToCupYouFuckUp · 26/09/2021 23:10

Me too. Also I’m surprised Amy didn’t say bye to the coxon. I know they had ups and downs but still.

Grin but agreed

Kangaroosfeet · 26/09/2021 23:10

So erm who killed Burke?

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/09/2021 23:12

Amy got over the traumatic death of her DP pretty quickly didn't she?

And how did they know Dowden would replace Burke?

And why, at the beginning could they not 'see' the American sub that was following them and killed the trawler?

Pah.

viques · 26/09/2021 23:15

The weeping cook. I get a gold star for spotting her.
WinoAnon · 26/09/2021 23:23

I liked it! Thought the plot was vastly more interesting than a standard whodunnit. The whole sub environment just made it so tense.

Wasn't bothered about all the back story though they could quite easily have cut it all out there was no need.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2021 23:23

Yes @viques 🌟🌟

So basically all this was burkes fault. If he had reported it no one would be dead including his self

So he prob deserved to die

OP posts:
JacquelineCarlyle · 26/09/2021 23:28

You do @viques - well done Grin

I enjoyed it actually - agree that you need to suspend belief with it but it was entertaining and all seemed to make sense in the end.

iklboo · 26/09/2021 23:33

Me too. Also I’m surprised Amy didn’t say bye to the coxon. I know they had ups and downs but still.

He was medivaced out pretty much out of it so maybe she didn't get chance?

I think it was 'arranged' for Doward to fly out and there's spies at higher levels - unless he'd done a previous tour and was familiar with the boat & crew?

'Surface or I'll kill her'. Shrug. Fill your boots, lad, she's not Navy'.

Surely someone has a gun. This dudes annoying me now

They were all locked up but, yeah, you think they'd have opened the cabinet. Pod got in there didn't he?

JanglyBeads · 27/09/2021 00:41

Very disappointing ending. Especially the red lit bit. Waste of time

Egghead68 · 27/09/2021 06:06

I don’t have understand how Jackie opening the tin saved anyone. It contaminated most of the boat.

I guess it did a lot less damage than if it had been opened in say the busy control room
TedGlenn · 27/09/2021 07:41

Was Poppy her daughter or her step-daughter?

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2021 07:43

@TedGlenn Stepdaughter but she'd been in her life since she was very young, hence Poppy calling her "mummy".
