What has happened to Rosa? She wasn't there at all last night, was she? As if she's no longer in a relationship with David (and keeping an eye on Ollie)?

LIZS · 19/06/2022 19:16

Think she was visiting sick mother a few episodes back.

BotCrossHuns · 19/06/2022 20:29

Yes the absence of teachers was a bit strange - surely the head teacher, as well as the management team, and the LA, and in fact the police, would have been hugely involved in the recpetion at the hospital - organising parents, finding out what happened to all the kids, keeping people informed and organised. Instead, the hospital seemed to be in charge of all of that as well, like Charlie, who could surely have been doing other useful things. All seemed even more chaotic than it should have been - a paramedic or nurse (or someone like that) having to be the one to discuss with a mother about her son not being accounted for, and arrange to contact people at the school to find the lost student etc. as a personal project.

TrashyPanda · 20/06/2022 00:45

This is the 2nd time Casualty has done a school shooting

whereas in real life, there has not been a single U.K. school shooting since Dunblane in 1996.

yes, I know it’s fictional - but two school shootings in Holby? Really?

Charlie looking older than Moses. Back in Sep. 2007 there was an ep about his 35 years as a nurse. So that means he’s been nursing for nearly 50 years now. Who thinks that’s realistic?

JustDanceAddict · 20/06/2022 06:55

MY DCs had invacuation drills. Barricade doors as much as possible and hide under desks/in cupboard.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/06/2022 07:10

saw this episode, dont usually watch casualty any more
but two student shooters?
when has that ever happened and how likely?

LouisCatorze · 20/06/2022 07:55

I can't remember the last one, although there was something similar (it might have been at an unspecified university?) in Silent Witness, and then the 'perp shooter' featured in a recent season again.

LIZS · 20/06/2022 08:18

There was something similar in series 26 ish from c2012. Shown recently on Drama.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 20/06/2022 10:25

The whole episode was far fetched where would 2 teenagers in the uk get access to guns and so much ammunition.

My childrens school in the uk...... infants only so yr R - yr 2 (4yrs - 7yrs) have intruder drills once a year where they have to hide in the toilets and be quite.

TrashyPanda · 20/06/2022 11:00

episode was called Entry Wounds. Season 25, episode 1 (2010). Jeff had PTSD afterwards, so it was referenced in several other episodes. The effects on Jeff were a storyline.

pity the SW team don’t check a few basic facts before writing an episode. Not just about prior Casualy storylines, but about school shootings in the U.K. general

there have been zero school shootings since Dunblane.
there were no school shootings in the UK for decades before 1996.
tighter gun laws were introduced as a result of the Dunblane massacre, but gun ownership has never been the norm here.

its totally farcical that Holby has had 2 school shootings in 13 years.

Cuck00soup · 20/06/2022 11:01

You used to be able to start nurse training at 17 and 9 months and I have worked with nurses who are still practicing in their late 60s and early 70s and occasionally older.

In reality, they have usually taken their pensions and work part time in a suitable role. Not in A&E.

unvillage · 20/06/2022 12:32

Poor David just can't catch a break. I wish they'd spent more time making this make sense as something Ollie would do.

spiderlight · 22/06/2022 09:33

@unvillage - I agree. They just vaguely introduced the dodgy mate and a bit of bullying/exclusion from other kids and then went straight to this. Maybe it will unfold more in subsequent episodes.

TrashyPanda · 22/06/2022 09:48

This isnt the first partial SL of recent eps.

remember the peculiar “catfishing Charlie” one? That just died a total death. Why would Robyn do such a nasty thing? Charlie had been very kind to her. The whole thing was downright strange.

and then the whole David and Rosa scenario. Are they working things out? Have they separated? Are they back together?

AnImaginaryCat · 22/06/2022 16:36

I felt there was a focus on David as a parent. The awful way he treated Ollie like he was 7 and the shouts of 'I love you' at the school gates.

Even so, can't help feeling having a needy parent isn't generally something that makes a teenager go on a gun rampage. Though technically I don't think Ollie did, he just followed his mad mate around didn't he.

purpleme12 · 22/06/2022 16:41

I think it was more his problems at school contributing although it still doesn't tie up

daffodilandtulip · 22/06/2022 21:34

It would have been better to not kill him, then we could work through the issues and storylines instead of it all just ending.

Sebastianthecoo · 22/06/2022 22:12

I’ve just watched it, an absolutely awful idea for a story line.

I knew that’s what was coming though and can’t remember what made me think it? It’s been building for a few weeks, but now I can’t think what actually made me wonder that this was coming?
