I can't remember a single staff member's child who has been a good, interesting or fun character - Linda's Britney and Joe, Sam Bateman, Louie Fairhead, Ella Ashford, Grace Beauchamp, - Ollie is no exception! Natalia too, and isn't there another teenage girl Faith offspring who has literally never featured? I feel sorry for her! Actually Kirsty's daughter Nita was OK if only for shoving her abusive dad down the stairs to his death and denying it.

If Tess was around she'd have quietly and not too gently suggested that Paige wash her face. She's lovely and I like her personality but what unfortunate fashion sense.

Of course Robyn is going to be their surrogate...FFS. Don't think I can watch it any more.

LouisCatorze · 12/06/2022 13:35

Robyn didn't look entirely pleased at the thought of being a surrogate though?

And what was the meaning of the scene at the end with Paige sitting with that elderly man? The implication seemed to be some level of relatedness? Or was I imagining that?

daffodilandtulip · 12/06/2022 18:06

I think it was just showing how doctors are at first, thinking they can make a difference, before the NHS breaks them.

Dontlickthetrolley · 12/06/2022 18:34

Perplexed0522 · 29/05/2022 21:23

The Paige and Rash story is so ridiculous.

The age difference must be quite large and she’s just so immature.

He needs to ditch her and run off with me 😘

Rash said he was 27 last night but I thought based on how long training is for a doctor that he would probably be older

unvillage · 12/06/2022 23:12

I don't like that the topic of adoption has never been mentioned with Adi and Marty wanting to have a child. Especially with Adi's line of work, he must see so many children in need - why does it have to be a biological child of one of them?

LouisCatorze · 13/06/2022 17:19

Rash said he was 27 last night but I thought based on how long training is for a doctor that he would probably be older I'd say so too. According to the BBC Casualty webpage Rash arrived in November '17, so it's just about possible he's only 27 but I'd have put him at 30 more like.

exactly.

why is Marty suddenly desperate to be a father with Adi? Are we supposed to be viewing this as a stable relationship, when Marty has just found out Adi has been secretive/lying to him?

and why would anyone tell Marty he’s going to be a great dad? We’ve seen zero evidence of that - but lots of childish petulance.

wouldn’t Robyn be better going for promotion to solve her financial woes? A few years ago, before he was promoted, we saw Jacob living in a pretty nice house. How come he was able to afford that, but Robyn is in desperate financial straits?

purpleme12 · 15/06/2022 21:55

It makes me laugh how now that Adi's a regular there are all of a sudden loads of stories that involve social workers!

purpleme12 · 15/06/2022 22:26

I know we see the mum and the boy again but do you think they were going to take the boy off her?!

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 18/06/2022 22:27

Gosh! I think it's a case of "careful what you wish for" in this episode. We've all been waiting for there to be any point to Ollie, and look what happened... I thought it was pretty well-handled, although I could have done without Paul's redemption arc - I still can't stand his character.

JustDanceAddict · 18/06/2022 22:40

Well that was jolly.,

Cuck00soup · 18/06/2022 22:40

I had thought they would explore mental health, but not like that.

I suppose It explains the unlikely trio of friends though.

spiderlight · 18/06/2022 22:42

Poor David 😥

BotCrossHuns · 18/06/2022 23:08

That was quite something, I agree. I haven't been following Casually properly for years, just random episodes, but have seen the last few. Never expected this. Actually surprised they showed it, given recent events in America. Didn't really seem plausible for U.K. though, both the events and the way David kept working throughout.

AnImaginaryCat · 19/06/2022 10:34

I've just watch and think it's probably one of the most ridiculous episodes of Casualty there has ever been. Not the story line, but the dreadful acting and the lingering shots, mostly of hands for some reason. From Charlie's slow wooden rise from his chair when Dylan said "what school?" to David's ridiculous dramatic collapse in the carpark.

Interested to know though that schools have a Code Red procedure for shootings though. (Not in the UK so wouldn't know.)

Hopefully it's only that school that doesn't have in this procedure some sort of way of making sure all staff and students are safe. I mean did no one in the double English, think "wonder where mouthy (whatever his name was, Jamie possibly) is' or when he wasn't accounted for maybe someone might have asked the freaking teacher if he'd followed procedure and if Jamie had been in the classes and he could even have mention he had been on the stage.

May have missed it, but did we hear how Faith's daughter's friend (Jack I think) do? I mean he didn't look too good.

Might have been an idea to have focuses on Ollie's treatment at school rather than just David's dreadful parenting.

I think the writers need to just stop making all patients some how connected to staff. It would have been a good eposide without all the personal crisis so many of the staff had. (Especially the receptionist!!) The crisis of having to handle the situation would have been enough.

My essay is now complete. 😀

BotCrossHuns · 19/06/2022 11:04

I'm not sure schools in the U.K. really do have that sort of drill. Maybe a general intruder drill but that seemed much more specific. I don't know how often it's practiced either, not like fire drills I don't think.

Yes the constant interactions between patients and staff who are related gets a bit much and unrealistic. Too much of the personal stories continuing between episodes. I don't mind a bit of personal story with different characters each time but not the constant staff drama. Makes me not want to trust casualty staff!! Can't imagine a parents of the school pupils working as a lead doctor - let alone the parent of the shooter.

And the shooting just didn't seem relevant to the U.K.

I know what you mean about the filming - I just wanted that bit to be over to get on with the interesting bit about the hospital dealing with it.

Cuck00soup · 19/06/2022 13:57

Well the school only appeared to have one teacher, so obviously no one had a list of who was in each class.

I'm not sure the writers have been in a UK secondary recently.

Also loved that they have time to perform chest surgery so they can do internal CPR, but not enough time put a breathing tube in. Grin

MadisonAvenue · 19/06/2022 15:59

I was wondering too about any procedures in place in UK schools, my son’s a secondary school teacher and I asked him if his school have any training or drills, he’s taught there since qualifying two years ago, and he said that he wasn’t aware of anything (but then if I asked him if today was Sunday he’d probably shrug and say he didn’t know).

LouisCatorze · 19/06/2022 16:44

I wonder if he'd be allowed to tell you even if his school does have one, @MadisonAvenue ? I would imagine it would be kept 'hush hush' deliberately.

JellyBellyNelly · 19/06/2022 16:51

We’re in a place where terrorism has to be thought about even as a highly improbable possibility and the school my grandchildren go to do practice drills ‘just in case’. And I suspect all of the international type schools do it. We also have security guards on the gates.

JellyBellyNelly · 19/06/2022 16:53

You can’t really keep it hush hush. The children would have to be involved in practicing it or there would be no point in having it.

LIZS · 19/06/2022 16:59

Dc certainly did lockdown drills in school, but there would be registers to check everyone is accounted for and they would know who was likely to be where . Agree the whole scenario was US based though and not sure how conveniently killing off both perpetrators really resolves the plot line except as poetic justice.
