The advert looks good. We'll give it a go.

KillingMeDeftly · 19/04/2021 21:59

Well that was depressing!

LizzieSiddal · 19/04/2021 22:12

It was depressing but will watch again.

KillingMeDeftly · 19/04/2021 22:13

That poor girl though, what a sad life she had.

Clawdy · 19/04/2021 22:26

Grim but gripping! Will definitely watch next week. Kate W was really good. And yes, that poor young teen's story was so sad.

Graffittiunderpass · 19/04/2021 22:26

That poor girl. I knew she was the one "marked for death" as soon as I saw her. I really like it. She's very real in it.

AnnieRich · 19/04/2021 22:38

It was very sad, but had a very good sense of place and characters. Will definitely keep watching.

Yes, I thought the young actress was so good. Abusive father and an uninterested ex with a bitch of a girlfriend who she had to give her baby (who she really loved) to for visits. The scene where she realises they've been playing her was just heartbreaking.

Have just watched the 1st episode. Very good but bleak! Who is the parent of Mare’s grandson? Her daughter looks too young to have a 4yr old. Then the little boy said something about his Dad being called Kevin and then Mare had a vision of a young man standing on the stairs and I wondered if that is Mare’s son and he is the father of the boy?

Boredsillyathome · 20/04/2021 21:39

I've just finished watching this it was gripping but so sad the poor girl, Kate Winslet was brilliant and I'll keep watching, does anyone know what part of America it's set in?

Yes, I wondered if the mystery boy was the father. As well as the daughter seeming too young, the child was calling her by her name too, not Mum.
KillingMeDeftly · 20/04/2021 22:04

I assumed her son (father of the little boy) is dead?

Rollergirl11 · 20/04/2021 22:29

Yes I assumed that the mystery boy (her son) is dead too. Wonder who/where the Mum is.

@Boredsillyathome it’s set in Pennsylvania.

unique1986 · 20/04/2021 22:39

Very good.

Enjoyed the first episode.

Kate Winslet is great and is lovely looking in a non-plastic way.

RedHotChiliChips · 21/04/2021 17:09

I don't watch many tv-series but really liked the first episode of this one. Lots of interesting layers!

I felt for the young mum too, she seemingly had no-one on her side Sad

My take was the the boy she had the vision of, is her dead son and father to the young boy. Makes you wonder who the child's actual mother is if he's cared by Mare's family.

Does anyone know how often the episodes are released?

KillingMeDeftly · 21/04/2021 17:33

@RedHotChiliChips Every Monday so no chance to binge unless you save up episodes!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/04/2021 12:34

I really enjoyed this, I thought the acting was excellent - KW in particular. It was a slow-burner for sure, but I am looking forward to the next episode (impatiently - so used to streaming!!) I agree that KW must have lost a son who is the father of that little boy, maybe we'll find out next episode.

Anyone else think KW is looking more and more like Meryl Streep?!

RedHotChiliChips · 22/04/2021 21:36

@KillingMeDeftly Thank you! I just need to be patient...

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/04/2021 06:26

I have this on the planner. Will try and watch this weekend

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/04/2021 20:55

Couldn’t get into it

I really enjoyed it and didn't guess Erin was going to get killed. Can't think who killed her (and Katie), maybe her abusive father.

Reminds me of Happy Valley
Mid life police officer ex husband with new partner
Lives with extended family
Bringing up grandson
Dead child
Tight community
Loved it
Kate Winslet is so real .

LovingBob · 26/04/2021 06:57

Not sure about this but will rewatch, episode 2 is up now as it is shown at about 3am in morning, to match US time I guess.

SydneyCarton · 26/04/2021 07:15

AustinAggro I got a definite Happy Valley vibe as well, also Top of the Lake (same dark feeling, tight knit community with deep secrets, troubled lead female).

Definitely think it’s Mare’s son who’s the father of the little boy, so I wonder where his mum is. Guy Pearce looks a bit seedy in this I think, not sure about him yet.
