I'm so looking forward to another dark drama.

KW’s accent is impeccable. The Pennsylvania accent is very hard to get right, and not often heard on screen.

So many amazing things about her performance, but this is very impressive. I lived in that part of the world for a few years (near Philadelphia); it's a very distinctive accent, and regional within Pennsylvania as well, but hard to replicate if you are from other places, even other places in the state.

I am hooked. It's on Sunday nights in the US. I think we may be one episode ahead in the US. All I can say is I can hardly wait until next Sunday.

Wow, that took a turn. It's one of those shows that can make you smile and do heartbreak in a flip. Really good portrayal of friendship too.

I’m loving the series so far.
The only thing that bugs me is that Kate winslets character reminds me of Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valleys, the characters daughter in happy valleys killed herself too.

My suspect is guy pearces character. I’m hoping it’s not but hiding in plain sight, new to the area and keeping close to the lead detective.

That ending was a shock.

Speaking of accents , SNL did a hilarious skit on this show and it was all about how they speak in philly . Evan Peters is a dream to watch in absolutely everything he does. He is so intense, even when playing silly characters like in X men.

I guess the kidnapper is Richard since Guy Pearce has barely done anything so far and there’s only three episodes left.

Loving this show. Always thought highly of Kate Winslet as an actress.

My current suspect too, otherwise what is the point of his character? Love interest? They could have just used Evan for that, indeed looks like it might be going that way. Don't understand how the priest had her bike though but that just seems too obvious to me. Gutted there's only 7 episodes.

Only thing that didn't sit right with me was Mare's police partner asking her on a date.
He's got to be in his thirties and she in late forties/early fifties?
Just didn't feel believable.

I initially suspected him as Guy Pearce is such a big name I thought it unlikely he’d be there just as a love interest or to show another side to Mare.

But it seems that the actor originally cast in that role (Ben Miles) had a scheduling conflict so KW called in GP as they’re good friends. So the part was originally intended for a less well-known actor (in the US, at least - I suppose he’s fairly well recognised here), and I guess if you’ve been cast in a really juicy role where you’re the ‘hiding in plain sight’ plot-twist murderer, you move mountains to stay in the role.

So now I don’t know.

Then again, ‘The Undoing’ showed that US tv doesn’t always try to be clever and sometimes the obvious guess is the killer, so maybe it is him. 🤷‍♀️

I said to DH - maybe I should have stomped around in a bad mood with my roots doing back in the day - I might have got more action.

I think the first episode showed the 25 year reunion of the star basketball team which Mare and her friends played on, so if they were 17 or so when they won the game they’re all only 42/43 now. Evan Peters is 34 but the character could conceivably be a couple of years older, so it’s not too much of an age gap.

That SNL skit is so funny with the accents. I noticed they (SNL) also got in a few references to WAWA (iconic regional gas station/convenience store chain) and Rolling Rock (iconic regional beer). I'm sure the skit will be on YouTube soon so be on the look out.

It is interesting that Det Zabel being interested in Mare is questioned yet reverse the sexes and it is not unusual. I recently watched Above Suspicion where Kelly Reilly 25 years younger than Ciaran Hinds appears very willing to get into a romantic relationship. Which I found slightly unbelievable.

So why not Mare - she clearly gives off an irresistible dgaf vibe!

So gutted for the other mother of the missing girl with the blackmail scam.

Any chance Erin’s death was an accident or suicide?

Was the new Deacon around when Erin got pregnant - do they need a DNA swab from him? Or the other priest?

Love the Grandma - going to steal her tactic for hiding the ice cream.

KW is spectacular in every micro expression and body movement.

I think she will set a new trend with those roots and crispy highlights.

Also loved how a tiny bit of slap revealed the stunningly handsome woman that she is when she went on her date.

Thought the sex scene was depressing - but maybe realistic?

Can someone remind me what the issues were with the old couple - was it just trying to capture graffiti cultprit? They assumed it was kid next door. What did it say - could it be relevant.

I loved the scenes of Erin riding her pink bike - it’s was quite dreamy and so childlike and worry free from the grim reality of her tough life.

Do we know what happened to her own mother?

Does Mare regret balling her ex H out in public and asking if he had sex with Erin?

My heart felt so heavy for the character Erin, you're so right, her innocence shone through. Not one person seemed to have her back, not one. 🥺

I couldn't help but think had Dylan and Brianna not Catfished her, she might still be alive, but having seen all current episodes I realise now she was perhaps chosen and it was just a matter of time.

The acting is so good from everyone. Evan Peters is very believable in his crush on Mare - can anyone say mummy issues ;) but hey, if writer guy turns out non-legit she should go for it he seems genuinely nice. For one dark moment yesterday I thought he’d be the murderer but I decided no not possible he’s too nice.

I was a little disappointed at the series turning out to be (possibly) another serial killer thing. But I don’t know what I was expecting really! I got my hopes up with that hugh grant Nicole Kidman thing before too and was sorely disappointed that it was so mundane in the end haha.

I'm really enjoying this. Stonking performances and very atmospheric. I'm hoping that the obvious culprit, isn't. I'm hoping for a twist. And thanks to the pp who mentioned Top of the Lake. I'd never heard of it and can watch it in between episodes of Mare.

Evan Peters is only about 10 years younger than Kate Winslet so I don't think it's unbelievable that he'd be interested in her!
