Crime Drama starring Kate Winslet

9pm Monday 19th April Sky Atlantic

I'm so looking forward to another dark drama.

OP posts:
Rollergirl11 · 26/04/2021 10:56

Guy Pearce looks half the man he used to be!

SydneyCarton · 26/04/2021 13:28

Watching episode 2 now - it is so dark - literally! I'm struggling to make out any definition because all the action seems to take place at night or in houses with the curtains drawn and no lights on Hmm

Graffittiunderpass · 26/04/2021 21:46

Watching the second episode now, I'm so drawn in. I just can't take my eyes off of Mare. Seems that Life has absolutely exhausted her
and she's just trying to put one foot in front of the other.

I don't trust Richard AT ALL. He arrives into a town where everyone knows everything about each other and suddenly there's a peeping tom followed by a murder?

I think it's him.

Graffittiunderpass · 26/04/2021 22:09

Just finished watching episode two. Shocking revelation at the end!!

Rollergirl11 · 26/04/2021 22:31

Excellent episode. They obviously want you to suspect that it’s Richard. I was really shocked by the name that was given at the end. I thought that one of the guys that went with Mare to tell Erin’s Dad that Erin was dead seemed dodgy. I don’t know who he is though, he always seems to be with the husband (is he the cousin of Erin’s Dad?) of Mare’s friend that the girl went to see at the end.

Nospringchickendipper · 26/04/2021 23:16

I’ve suspected half the male characters after watching the second episode.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/04/2021 23:20

Brilliant episode tonight, I'm totally hooked. As a PP said I'm suspecting everyone!

Who is the lady that the girl went to at the end? Her husband is the dead girl's uncle. I can't understand why she told her instead of the police. Is she related to Mare?

SydneyCarton · 27/04/2021 06:52

Rollergirl11 I think Dodgy Guy is the brother of Mare’s friend’s husband (I can’t remember anyone’s name!) and they are cousins of Kenny, Erin’s dad. I think the husband is John and the brother is called Billy????

LifeInAHamsterWheel I think Erin’s friend went to her rather than the police because of the revelation at the end (trying not to give anything away!). As far as we know she has no real proof, it’s just her suspicion, so I guess they wanted to discuss it with Mare’s friend before dropping a massive bombshell in everyone’s life.

SydneyCarton · 27/04/2021 07:00

@Nospringchickendipper

I’ve suspected half the male characters after watching the second episode.
It’s because they all look the same 🤣 Every bloke is big and beardy with a flannel shirt, cap and pickup truck, I can’t tell who’s who! Apart from Tony the restaurant guy who is clean shaven and helpfully carries out a low level harassment campaign in a van with his name on the side Hmm
AvonCallingBarksdale · 27/04/2021 08:10

Really enjoying this - KW is fantastic in it! Totally hooked.

southeastdweller · 27/04/2021 08:39

I’m surprised they killed off Dylan already.

Quitelikeacatslife · 27/04/2021 08:44

Really enjoying this, seen first 2 so far , got a tense small town atmosphere. Kate winslet is compelling

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 27/04/2021 10:31

Thanks @SydneyCarton yes I thought that, just wondered was there some other reason. We live in a small town and everyone knows everyone (and lots of people are related) so I can see this scenario playing out if something like that happened here!!

I think it would be too obvious if it was Richard. I love that there's clearly much more to be revealed but I still wish we could binge-watch Grin

Quincie · 27/04/2021 21:53

I missed who Erin's friend said was the father....

KillingMeDeftly · 27/04/2021 22:08

@Quincie

I missed who Erin's friend said was the father....
Frank, Mare's ex-husband.
Quincie · 28/04/2021 07:30
Shock
LunaNorth · 28/04/2021 21:37

I thought KW’s acting at the paediatrician’s office was incredible.

I wish she’d sort her roots out though shallow

Delatron · 28/04/2021 22:13

Ha I’m cross about her roots! But it all adds to the effect. She’s fantastic in this.

I would have been so pissed off to be invited out by Richard, then he didn’t even come over and say hello. So she left. So would I. He’s dodgy but not the killer (I think).

LunaNorth · 28/04/2021 22:17

I think Richard was beyond rude. He’s weaselly. I don’t like him.

Timeisavirtue · 28/04/2021 22:44

I said Richard was dodgy the first episode. Not sure what it is? Also not sure if Dylan is dead because the way he fell looks like he could have just tripped. I’m itching to watch more. I love Evan peters the guy who is playing the county detective. Even my mum was like OMG 😱

MrsFezziwig · 28/04/2021 22:54

It’s passing the “watch as soon as it’s aired” test with me. And I’m old enough to savour delayed gratification Grin

AlinaSquareQueen · 01/05/2021 17:38

I’ve just finished the first two episodes of this and it’s right up my street! A drama about a missing person and murder investigation but very character-driven as well.

I can’t wait for the next episode. And yes I agree, best thing Kate Winslet has done in my opinion.

DarkDarkNight · 02/05/2021 21:35

Caught up with the second episode today and can’t wait for the 3rd now. I’m really enjoying it. All I could think after the first episode was of the poor baby if left with Dylan and Brianna. Who had the baby when they were in the woods, his parents? Brianna’s father was awful too.

I wonder if Frank is the father and him telling Mare he had barely spoken to Erin before even though he taught her was just a deflection.

YoutubeZoom · 02/05/2021 22:24

I am surprisingly addicted to this.
Good catch about it being similar to Happy Valley. I hope noone hurts Mare, because I still cry at Sarah Lancashire bleeding out on the street...

We found out who Mare's grandson's father. That was so sad.

SydneyCarton · 03/05/2021 07:25

I thought Frank was a bit too good to be true, but I don’t think he’s the killer. It would make no sense to murder Erin now, if he was going to do it he’d have done it as soon as she told him she was pregnant and going to keep the baby.

I have to say I was hoping Brianna would crumble under the police questioning, but I was quite impressed at how well she fronted it out!
