The final scene in the graveyard where it panned up and out was very similar to the final scene in series 1 with the victims mum finally putting flowers on his grave

Also series 3 (which I've just finished rewatching) when Cassie and Sunny put flowers on Hayley's grave. Now wondering about the ending of series 2, but I haven't tracked down whether it's available.

I don't want anyone to take over who's bigger than the show. I want someone to creep in apologetically, treat Sunny and Fran and the team with deference and respect and then slowly suck us in until we're totally wowed by how well they've fitted in.
Casting director (or whatever title you go by these days) - be very very careful, now is not the time to muck this one up!

I've rewatched the finale again, it does feel rushed after the pace of the series in general.

Sanjeev Bhaskar is an amazing actor. I hope that whoever they bring in to play opposite him, the focus is on the chemistry and relationship and not a 'name'.

In case Suranne Jones reads this and feels rubbish, I should stress I think she's a legend in Gentleman Jack. Scott and Bailey was excellent, and Doctor Watson wasn't her fault.

I couldn't imagine anyone else in Scott and Bailey.

Dr Foster was just a rubbish series (well - the second series was - first not so bad).

I also loved her in Coronation Street as one of the Many Wives Of Steve MacDonald (Karen, was it? To lazy to google) and the only one who kept him in check.

There must be so many wonderful actresses and actors out there who just haven't managed to get a break into popular TV. It's such a very competitive industry, and it seems that whoever does the casting goes for big names as a "pull" to viewers (understandable - but come on. Sanjeev Bhaskar is big enough to carry this and give some "smaller" unknown an opportunity to show how good they could be.

(I still like Fran, mind you . . . )

I hadn't heard of her and had to look her up. Also looked up the pronunciation (Wuh-roo-tchay is the closest I can get to it without phonetic fonts).

I wish we had a time machine. I'd pay good money to have Julie Walters or Dench.

I did think perhaps Meera Syal would be good- she would have interesting rapport with Sunny. Or Maria Doyle Kennedy (Katherine in the Tudors, and superb in tons of drama).

They are married aren't they - Meets Syal and Sunny. Well Sanjeev Bhaskar - it looks like Sunny will be getting married to someone else.

There's probably lots of suitable actresses-- problem with the more understated actresses is I don't recall their names or their ability until I see them in something.

Unforgotten needs someone to not take over as the star but someone who's name a lot of people might need to look up and say "oh yeah, I know her".

It was all a bad dream in Sunny's head. Cassie isn't dead. She doesn't want to retire. She'll be back for one more case before she retires.

Nevermind a new actress...doesn't Fran deserve a promotion? She did pretty much all the legwork in this season 😂 or the chubby guy who's name escapes me...

All the team worked well and made useful discoveries. Ideally they'd all be promoted one rung, with a new person coming in as the most junior. But if they're publicising the new series as Sunny + new person it's likely they'll be directly above or below him.

Yes I agree. Sanjeev is wonderful. Such an expressive face, he is a joy to watch in anything .

Absolutely gutted they killed off Cassie - cried a lot when I watched it!
