AMM has had very little warmth about her the few roles I've seen her in. Her character in Motherland is awful to everyone around her.

Not for this role but has anyone watched No Offence with the brilliant Joanna Scanlan. I always thought of her as Terri Coverly in In The Thick of It but she was excellent as the lead in this, capable and in the prime of her life to paraphrase Wikipedia.

Agree love Joanna Scanlon in No Offence.

Funny how so many are sympathetic to a drug smuggler and murder!! is he because he was nice to his wife and children or because he cried? (or both!)

None of the characters were innocent where they? Dean and Fiona were the worst of them. Both caused the death of another human being.

Ram and Liz's situation was a bit more manipulated so not as bad. Ram the least of those two too - I think he must have been involved with Dean because he felt that if the death was discovered he'd be blamed by all the others. Not sure Liz's motivation other than having been Fiona's partner (and seeing her sappy partner still loving her Fiona seem to get into a relationship with people who are so some reason unquestionably loyal)

@CherryValanc the drug smuggling seemed an odd add on to the story - agree the reality is awful.

I dont think we've seen the last of Ram. I see successful appeal, if necessary, and reappearing, still in police, to cause problems for Sunni. There's still a lot to be resolved. Send for Ted fellas, I scent bent bastards.

I really want Sunny to get the promotion and have Fran as his sidekick. She's so diligent and understated but you know she'd really g we her teeth into any mystery. I love the character of Sunny and I think giving him more to do would bring him out.

I love Sarah Lancashire but she's all wrong for this I think and I couldn't watch it if it was Suranne Jones, she is nowhere near as good an actress as she thinks she is.

Sarah Lancashire is brilliant in many things, but wouldn't be right for this, and Suranne Jones peaked in Scott and Bailey and has (IMO) never reached those heights again. Also - there's something brittle about her in the roles I've seen her in since then. (I can't describe it in any other way, but I know what I mean) She wouldn't work well in Unforgotten I don't think.

I think Suranne would make it all about her rather than the actual story.

Unlikely to be someone in their mid 40s/ 50s.
And could also be a male.
And deffo not a very well known name.

Yes not a known actor, I would rather a relative newcomer. I hope they don't get someone like Suranne or Keeley in, or Anna Friel (or someone else whose face doesn't move) as a "look who we've got" bit of advertising.

The thing I've always liked about Unforgotten is how calm and understated it is. No one shouts or screams or has huge noisy car chases. It's always been about Cass and Sunni, quietly and methodically working out the answers. Which was why it was so believable that Cass would be so angry and disappointed in herself over leaving the case file in public and the death of Neil Morrissey's character as a result.

It's never been flashy of sensationalist or with daft cameos from famous types. You'll know some of the actors from other things but I've always felt it was cast on ability of actor not showing off about cameos like Midsommer murders or the likes.

Yes I agree with this.

I disagree about Dean. He didn't try hard to turn his life around. He murdered Walsh, he didn't have to, he chose to. Saying crime is in his DNA is a cop out IMO. He happily allowed the others to believe Ram did it, presumably because that was useful to him for the smuggling.

He then went on the smuggle drugs whenever he needed a cash injection. Yeah he stopped once he had enough cash to go legit but he used his criminal contacts to take short cuts.

I don't think he's any worse than the other suspects, I just don't think he's particularly any better either.

Keeley Hawes and Sarah Lancashire are both great but I can't see them with Sunny. Happy Valley is getting another series I think so SL will be busy with that.

Emily Watson could be good. She was excellent in Chernobyl.

Maxime Peak would be amazing, but I can't see it being her sort of thing... We are rewatching S1 - it's a beautifully crafted series, and it's lovely seeing the lighter side of the relationship between Sunni and Cass.

For me the sad thing about Dean's speech was that he'd made it come true. He'd made a decision to escape the family, and that way of life. But then complete chance put his brothers murderer in his hands, and he fell back on the violence that he'd been bought up with. And then he knew he'd thrown away his chance, make a huge mistake, and that he'd never have the life he'd hoped for.
It's that attitude that makes me go 'sod it, might as well eat cake all day now' when I fall off a diet wagon, rather than putting it down as a blip and going back to salad

Carey Mulligan (loved her in Collateral) although not sure she would do a show on ITV! Hadn’t thought of Maxine Peake or Emily Watson - both good calls. Anna Maxwell Martin would be great but agree with PP that she is too like Nicola W. What about Sally Hawkins?

I just hope the casting director of "Unforgotten" reads these threads.

Otherwise when the choice is revealed a huge "NOOOOooooooooOOOOOoooooooOOOOOooooooo!" could reverberate throughout the land, causing earthquakes in Chile and ecological disasters world-wide.

If the wardrobe director is reading this thread the new boss/team member will be straight out of Vogue - and all her new colleagues will suddenly find the need for a shopping trip.
