Anyone watch this tonight?

Just catching up now, it's the same show as "Your Home Made Perfect" but you guessed it.. a garden makeover this time!

It will be on iplayer to catch up on!

This series is beginning to annoy me! What is the point of people setting generous budgets only for the designers to blow them by miles?

Oh yes! But isn’t that exactly what they did with the ‘Home Made Perfect’ projects? Huge budget over runs?

…it's hard to see where all the money is going…

Fools and their money, so easily parted. Hmm

Great thread @covetingthepreciousthings. Smile

In both weeks there have been far too much hard surfaces and not enough actual garden. But that seems to be the insta- fashion right now with "outdoor rooms" that are very stylised and sanitised.

I think it might also be because they need to show an instant transformation and with a garden you generally don't get that with plants (unless you spend an absolute fortune).

'Hated this week's one. They had such a stunning, unique spot and it turned into a pub beer garden.'

Yes it was absolutely horrible. 30k for a bit of decking, it just looked so cheap and nasty. Could've been beautiful.

30k? You having a laugh?!?
I’d have been gutted but wouldn’t have chosen that one. I’d want some kind of Bellagio water feature for 30k!

He could have had some of his party friends to do the landscaping and bought them pizza and beer. I'm sure you could have done the hard surfaces for at least a tenth of what they paid out.

I agree it was so hard and harsh and industrial style, which was totally out of place in the setting.

I prefer the affordable projects every week. This week's garden in Glasgow was lovely.

Lasts night show made me want to scream in frustration/anger..
Garden you call it? I call it an ugly eye sore.

'Outdoor entertaining space' = pain in the arse noisy neighbours 'til all hours Sad
'Sleek modern look using unusual reclaiming pipework' = stupid looking outdoor shelter/pergola that looks like part of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory..
Pretty fairy lights overkill = light pollution galore, DH said the nextdoor neighbour who's into astromony would probably be topping himself looking at that, it was like a bloody runway. And don't get me started on the confusion for wildlife when it's supposed to be DARK Angry Angry Angry

Yes Hasa I couldn't watch it after seeing the 'transformation' plans it was so horrible . It looked like an effing shanty town. They are so enchanted with the technology they can't see or think straight .

Maybe the idea is to gently get us used to the post-Covid/post-Brexit world of us and them?

Yes it looked like a crap display in B&Q.

Oh, did he mention he liked to party Grin.

Did anyone else think those tiles are going to be a death trap when wet ?

Report
midsummabreak · 13/02/2021 10:49

@Eve. Absolutely ! I think many people live to regret shiny floor tiles , especially in outdoor settings and at outside steps that get wet and are then a golden opportunity to break someone’s hip

The bloke's plans were better, he kept the pond ,which is very important in these days of disppearing wildlife. But those steps? Long slabs of something, looked terrible.

And…

The final scene showing exactly how much they’d blighted their neighbours’ properties with excess lighting.

Lovely. Hmm

It's why I have solar lights, they only light up til about 10/11 at the latest even in summer. Then they leave the garden dark for the creatures.

Honestly l turned it off this morning after watching it from a recording. £30k on a garden that size is utter stupidity. It's also completely unrealistic for most people. Far too much maintenance involved too unless they are planning on paying a gardener.

I couldn’t help but think of all the darts that will go over the neighbour’s fence.

In fact, I could only think of the neighbours for most of the programme and feel very sorry for them.

Parties, darts, outdoor cinema, 100’s of lights - nightmare...

Just watched it on catch up. I liked the wood uprights but hated the stupid scaff poles. Also totally agree the lighting is very anti social. Six people using the space as a party pad is not really appropriate with neighbours right next door on both sides.
I ‘ve had a look on Pips Pinterest and her stuff tends to be very “ set piece”. Great for the suburbs but horribly out of place opposite a farm. You couldn’t have made it more unforgiving for wildlife.

To fair though that garden did at least have garden in it - grass, plants etc. By contrast my neighbours have covered half their garden in patio & seating & the half is covered in astroturf. There is not one single living organism in it unless you count the algae that grew in their inflatable pool last summer Envy

I missed the first episode but watched the second one.
I couldn't believe they went for the second option.
Those awful scaffolding poles !
The pine.
The slippy tiles.
I preferred the first option with the water feature, but not the pathway through the grass- how do you cut it ? With a scissors or hedge clippers ?
Where was the washing line put ?

The filming is very intrusive on the neighbours' gardens.

Far too many scaffold poles used in this weeks garden.
I didn’t like the design. For 30k it looked like the materials were cheap.

Parties, darts, outdoor cinema, 100’s of lights - nightmare

I always wonder what neighbours think about outdoor cinemas, they seem to have grown in popularity in the last few years. I don't think I could actually have one as I would feel so conscious of the noise the whole time. I can't even open my patio doors with my music on without feeling like I'm annoying the neighbours !
