So budget is 60k.... I guess 74k for actual spend.

I love the 1st design. I wonder how much maintenance the low level vegetation/lawn and the water/pond would take.

I can imagine the water/pond turning green and stagnant - we have very hot summers here.

If they're 'hoping for grandchildren' then that much water might be scary?

Is Angela wearing a pac-a-mac? I like it.
That's a pretty garden.

@jay55

I think I'd worry about neighbours animals drowning with that much water. It is lovely, but you end up with not a lot of useable space.

Neighbours animals can stay away!

I missed how deep the water was in the first design - anyone know?

Definitely agree with that sentiment Titus!

Second isn't as pretty but so much more practical

It's not actually a gardening programme is it? It's a spend loads of money for a brief wow programme

BlueCowWonders · 18/02/2021 20:28

I loved the first but can see how the second design fits the brief better

I wonder about the upkeep - they're not necessarily gardeners. They can probably afford to get someone in, though.

I love clover in my lawn. But it is REALLY HARD to not tread on bees.

I think I actually prefer the second, it will age much better than the first.

@hedgehogger1 - I think it’s more of a design show more than anything. You can take ideas for your garden from it. I love the low budget designer for this.

@BlueCowWonders

£60000 budget!!!
Shock

That’s a years wages! It ‘s St Albans not a country manor.

Chop the tree, put in a pond and throw a load of wild flower seeds .
Then buy a second home with a pretty in France with the other 50k

I much prefer the second garden. The first didn't really have anywhere fir the family to sit together apart from some logs and how many people of that age age going to be willing to squat on a long for the whole evening.

What did they say about frogs drowning in the second garden? DH was droning on about something completely unrelated.

@Maireas - you’d have to employ a gardener surely?

LOVE that ferny garden. Not the spiky bits though.

Yes hedge!

I'd love to see some smaller gardens/small budgets featured. I know they have that other bloke doing a smaller project (he gives me the creeps sorry!) but I haven't liked either of his designs so far although I appreciate the budget was tiny.

This urban garden is beautiful but it takes a lot of skill and £££ mature plants and landscaping to achieve a look instantly. And then the plants get too big/unruly and require attention.

There was stony beachy bit on the side so that no wildlife could get trapped. As frogs can swim, but not forever, they need a way out.

I think you would, Titus. If you have that much of a budget I'm sure you could!

60k on a garden has blown my mind but I definitely prefer the second design.

@Maireas - I hope they at least leave them with a guide/timetable for how to care for the plants.

Absolutely Thewinterofdiscontent

That's the kind of thing I've done with my existing garden features. I'd like some paths and a bit more hard landscaping ideally but it functions well and wildlife likes it!

Oh the budget garden is very meh. For £8k I was expecting a bit more than some decking, some lawn and a rockery,

Maireas · 18/02/2021 20:40

There's two little children that need to play out there - it doesn't look very child friendly.
