Anyone watch this tonight?

Just catching up now, it's the same show as "Your Home Made Perfect" but you guessed it.. a garden makeover this time!

It will be on iplayer to catch up on!

You can do it yourself. It’s very satisfying and good for the soul.

Apparently, there’s a £60k one coming up…

Hmm Hmm Hmm

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 08/02/2021 18:56

I could not believe they cut that beautiful monkey puzzle tree down, I think they take something like 50 years to grow to full size, I actually think it was morally wrong to cut it down, and then to add insult to injury replace it with a common acer. The garden was pleasant enough in a generic way, it certainly did not look like it cost £33,000, I’ve seen better on Charlie Dimmocks garden rescue where £5,000 is classed as big budget.

ppeatfruit · 09/02/2021 08:36

Yes Zara Garden Rescue is good, at least they've all got a sense of humour and do a lot of reusing and recycling.

I watched it, and I did like the design aspects and will continue watching for that. I like how the designers gave little snippets of why they chose to do something.

But it was a ridiculous garden for two obviously non-gardeners. All that planting seems quite high maintenance for a couple who just want to sit down. At no point did 'pottering around doing gardening' come into their lifestyle. For me, that's a fundamental design flaw. Unless they had told the designer they were planning on paying a gardener!

But the £1500 one was much much better: more impact, better design for the clients lifestyle and he was so chuffed with it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 09/02/2021 10:03

Unless they had told the designer they were planning on paying a gardener!

I did wonder that!

Also, did anyone else notice when they sat down first to go through the garden and what they wanted they just asked the man what he wanted out of it and the woman looked a bit miffed, felt a bit sorry for her as it didn't seem like they asked what she wanted out of the garden.

I noticed that - it was all about what he wanted . Of course they will have a gardener .

Beebumble2 · 10/02/2021 07:25

The first designed option was the better one, but was not really for non gardeners. I agree about the vandalism regarding the Monkey Puzzle tree. There wasn’t much said about the types of plants and the best aspects or how to maintain them.
I liked the bit with the chap in the shed and his design for the new build garden. The house was in a terrace, so where did all the dug out soils go? Into the planters? I did think the young chap got a lot for his money, even if he did do the work himself.

ReggaePerrin · 10/02/2021 10:11

Glad it wasn't just me.

I can't remember how many hundreds of pounds they said the acer had cost but it looked half dead. Perhaps because it wasn't happy being moved being such a mature tree.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/02/2021 20:06

Anyone else watching tonight?

Already it's a £20k budget!

PinkSubscriber · 11/02/2021 20:41

I can’t say that either of the designs are particularly exciting. Especially for the cost.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/02/2021 20:43

I’d be falling off the dance floor bit after a few drinks!

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/02/2021 21:31

Just catching up now.. another 20k budget! Confused

Also.. don't know if it's just me, but have I been pronouncing pergola wrong all this time?! I always thought it was per-go-laa... but on here they're pronouncing it per-ger-ler (like burglar)..

OP posts:
Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 11/02/2021 21:36

I say it to rhyme with burglar.
I think I preferred the other design, although this one did give them a bigger entertaining area which was more year round.
I mainly watch because I have a girl crush on Angela Scanlon, she's lovely.

Quarks69 · 11/02/2021 22:04

That cost went up to £30,000! Just too many squares. Why does everyone want a bat outside? How many times are they going to actually use it?

Californiabakes · 11/02/2021 22:10

Way too much hard landscaping and such a lot of money!

HairyToity · 11/02/2021 22:26

I preferred the first design tonight. I liked the long grasses against the view. The bloke referred to a kitchen lasting ten years. This wound me up. My mum's had her kitchen 35 years and counting.

7Days · 11/02/2021 23:10

I find Angela Scanlon really irritating!
It's her accent - and I'm Irish in Ireland.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/02/2021 09:26

Yes I love her, I want her wardrobe! But I don't think I'd look so effortlessly cool..

Love that there's a gardening book by Isabella Tree.Grin I was really sad when they chopped the monkey puzzle down as well. We tried to grow one once but it failed miserably. I love seeing them in gardens when out and about. Can't imagine ever spending such amounts of money on a garden even if I had it.

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/02/2021 11:41

I almost cried over the monkey puzzle. They cost thousands.

Its definitely pergola to rhyme with burglar here. I think theyre getting mixed up with the pronunciation of pergoda and pergola

unfortunateevents · 12/02/2021 11:53

Isn't the word pagoda not pergoda?

This series is beginning to annoy me! What is the point of people setting generous budgets only for the designers to blow them by miles?! I wasn't keen on last night's finished product, it looked more like a beer garden than a family home and I think the husband is going to regret getting rid of his dad's water feature, which could surely have easily been left in place in some form?

fluffy71 · 12/02/2021 12:00

I agree on the budget. What’s the point is setting one when the designers don’t stick to it! Both this week and last week had 20k budgets which went up to 33 and 30k. Agreed last nights garden was like a beer garden, far too much paving and illumination. I’d hate living next door to them!

jay55 · 12/02/2021 12:31

Agree with all, why didn't they sell that beautiful tree.

Just watching week 2. The chaps design was daft as it would have blocked the view from the big window side of the house.

Watching after Homes under the hammer, where developers seem to redo a whole house for 50p, it's hard to see where all the money is going.

Rivergreen · 12/02/2021 13:54

Hated this week's one. They had such a stunning, unique spot and it turned into a pub beer garden. In both weeks there have been far too much hard surfaces and not enough actual garden. But that seems to be the insta- fashion right now with "outdoor rooms" that are very stylised and sanitised.

I also find it so sad that in such rural spots they filled the space with light pollution. You're killing any opportunities to look at the stars and disrupting wildlife. I've been quite surprised at how little the designers seem to take nature, plant types, hardiness and longevity into account. It's all about "the look".

Although next week might be more up my street looking at the preview.
