Anyone watching?

Not yet, going to save it until DH is free to watch. I'm too chicken to watch on my own!

Hope it's as good as Hill House 🤞

It is definitely a cacophony of accents, and that's distracting at the beginning. It's always weird hearing familiar actors with new accents, and I think in this case they are deliberately exaggerated to fit stereotypes for the purposes of the story.

It's really bad, isn't it? I watched the 1st episode-won't bother watching any more. The acting, accents, sets, all woeful. And very obviously American. I'm so disappointed.

There's another 'Turn of the Screw' adaption - a film - that was released just recently. I wish film makers would make original stuff.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 10/10/2020 09:47

I was reading that it was filmed in Canada, which explains a lot.

The recent adaptation of The Turn of the Screw was infinitely better.

WhoWants2Know · 10/10/2020 10:02

I've watched 3 episodes so far, and it definitely does get better, so I'm going to keep watching.

I tried to watch it but Carla Gugino's (The Narrator) accent is so off putting. Words with a U sound came out weird and mumbled. Words like path come out with a weird northern sounding tone.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/10/2020 18:20

So glad the girl stopped saying splendid!

Made it to the end..definitely prefer Hill House but the last few episodes made it all worth while...especially the final 2.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 10/10/2020 18:22

Yes. That ' perfectly fucking splendid ' kid had better be meeting a sticky end soon. Angry

Pickypolly · 10/10/2020 18:25

Awful.
Awful
Awful
And I’ve persevered hoping it would get better.
Now sat her furious that my time has been wasted with this shite.

WhoWants2Know · 10/10/2020 18:37

I laughed so much when I realised the little girl is the voice of Peppa Pig. Her character definitely grew on me after a few episodes.

I hope she grows on me. The little boy is a good actor but the girl is getting on my nerves.

I'm sticking with it.

Notsurewhatsgoingon · 11/10/2020 10:16

@Wearywithteens I said to dh last night how ridiculous it is that Americans think we talk like that.
My family are actually split between England and America and don't talk or think we talk like that so God knows who decided to do it like that.

Yes the peppa pig girl is a rubbish actor. Sorry to say that about a child but it's just of putting.

Still going to watch it though to see if it gets any better.

Hill House was really good. Absolutely perfectly splendid.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 11/10/2020 10:44

The whole storyline is confusing to me, too much jumping around between times and memories...I’m left wondering what’s real and what isn’t. Perhaps that’s the point, or perhaps I’m just stoopid Grin

teaandcustardcreamsx · 11/10/2020 11:38

I’m in the minority here but I really liked it! I’m only two episodes in so far but I actually like it. Hill house I found harder to get into but I’ll probably try after finishing Bly manor

JimmyJabs · 11/10/2020 15:26

There are some horrible, jarring anachronisms in the script, which keeps pulling me out of the story. I really wish they'd set it in America in some posh New England small town, or at least done some research into 1980s Britain. There are proper Brits in the cast - I wonder if they were asked for their input at any point?

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 11/10/2020 15:28

I'm four episodes in and also laughed like a drain when I realised Flora was no other than Pepper Pig.

It's no where near as spooky as Hill House was but I'm still loving it.

Actually really enjoyed it and the last 2 episodes just tied everything together nicely

MiriamShepherd · 11/10/2020 20:02

I thoroughly enjoyed this from episode one I was hooked, don’t get me wrong there are some glaring americanisms but the whole thing was so good I was willing to overlook it

Everythingmagnolia · 11/10/2020 20:27

I'm on episode 6 and I am so confused Blush

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/10/2020 20:39

I really loved the ending..and the fact the groom at the start was the bloke from The Room

Babysharkdoodoodood · 11/10/2020 21:06

I've just watched epi 5. That was good! Going to carry on as it seems to be improving
