Ghosts Series 2 *Bingewatchers spoiler thread*

Afternoon.
Setting up just in case any other binge watchers did want to discuss so the original stays spoiler-free.
Someone asked why Thomas's love letter kept disappearing - I assumed because he was psychologically at peace with it now: does not need to keep rereading source of heartbreak as it was not from his love. But that was a wild guess on my part and not sure why the closure did not allow him to pass on/move on as a ghost like the other one referred to.
My favourite part of the whole series was Pat being lovely to the younger robber, you know, take the better path pep talk...then on seeing him put chewing gum on the table shouting BORSTAL!!!! at the top of his lungs. Cracked me up, probably because of having to try to get all the used gum off school desks with a knife back in the day. You turned a desk upside down and there'd be 30 bits of pink, yellow, white and grey used and discarded gum stuck under each table Envy >not envy.
I also thought the Captain's scenes were beautifully done and I did tear up at them.

Thanks for setting up this thread Flowers

I loved the Captain’s story too and my favourite bit of him was when he was directing the floral arrangements and the lighting in the last episode. That last episode was just perfect.

My other fav bit was in episode two with the flashbacks to the night before and all the ghosts dancing with everyone else, so funny it makes me smile now to think of it.

Marmaladey · 26/09/2020 16:33

I thought Thomas’s love letter kept disappearing because it is part of him. So he was trying to leave it behind, but he can’t as it’s part of him.

I thought the burglary episode was just perfect, really well paced, so funny and sweet and just brilliantly done.

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2020 16:36

Oh, d'oh! That makes more sense. I am thick Blush He was trying to get rid of it not put it back in his pocket. Gosh I need to go to Barnham Castle.

Just rewatched it marm and it's exactly as you describe, I totally misremembered/reversed it . he goes to put it on the table and sighs fondly as he thinks he now has closure but it returns to his pocket each time hence the Fuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkkkk at the end. Poor Thomas still having to carry the cause of his angst/death around. That said, Pat still has to walk around with the arrow in his neck, Fanny still jumps out the window, Humphrey can't keep his head on and Julian's still cursed to wander around without his trousers on.
@doginabandana marmaladey has it. Smile

Place marking for later

I've watched it twice now and I'm loving it

Series 1 was fab bit this second series is another level

Episode 4 is my favourite I think. I loved the re-telling in the narrators' words. So Robin's version had me in stitches

And I'm quietly smug that I called it on Al who was playing the cousin and suspected that he had manipulated everyone

Ps. I love Robin.

LunaNorth · 26/09/2020 17:12

I loved the Captain letting out his inner wedding planner! Absolute genius.

I also loved the different perspectives of the party Thomas was killed at, particularly Mary’s and Robin’s.

And the last episode with the plague girl singing down the phone GrinGrinGrin

LunaNorth · 26/09/2020 17:13

And Robin’s taking down of monogamy in the last episode!

God I love Robin.

MissFitton · 26/09/2020 17:35

Yay a spoilers thread- I don't have to keep it in anymore Grin

I loved this series, touches of genius throughout. So yes to Robin being wise and the Captain having a more human side when planning the wedding - him dancing with the men at the end made me think he was more at peace with himself.
Loved the different narrations of Thomas' story.

I also liked Alison's jumper in the last episode (the green sparkly one!)

I am totally over invested in each and every one of them. Grin

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2020 17:42

It is just such a feel-good ensemble piece, isn't it? It just made me so happy watching it. Nobody tries to steal thunder, no clash of egos, fairly equal screen time, the main characters are all well-developed, there are interesting female characters, the script is moving and funny and the whole family can watch. I loved it so much I voted for it in the tv times awards (even though that meant voting for other categories I couldn't have cared less about). It really came into its own this series and a Xmas special and third series already commissioned fills me with joy.
I also think they did a brill

Lol from that article:
“And so, on those last couple of days, we had to stand down our cast of supporting artists – about 15, 20 people – who were meant to come and play pandemic victims. We had to call them and say: ‘don’t come to play pandemic victims because there’s a pandemic, it would be dangerous.'”

BillStickersIsInnocent · 26/09/2020 18:20

Do we know how the Captain died? I may have missed that.
We still don’t know about Kitty, Robin, Julian (cannot wait for that one!), Mary in any detail.

LunaNorth · 26/09/2020 18:21

I like that Fanny has started to have a bit of a sexual awakening.

‘A lacy brassiere’Grin

LunaNorth · 26/09/2020 18:22

And we saw Julian’s human side when he shed a tear at Thomas’s story.

Yes her reactions to Mike with the statue and the Diet Coke skit 😂
LunaNorth · 26/09/2020 18:25

It’s all that Lady Chatterley’s fault.

MissFitton · 26/09/2020 18:50

I don't think we know how the Captain died.
Do we know about Kitty? I suspect it will be sad as she's so nice and just wants a friend. ☹️
It's all quite bitter sweet actually. I started watching it thinking 'yes, HH. It will be silly and funny' - and it's that but lots of such lovely moments too. They really are brilliant as a group of writers/performers.

AccioWine · 26/09/2020 19:38

Yay, thank you for starting this op! I've binged it through once but want to watch it again.
I'm glad we're learning a bit more about all their deaths. Thomas' was so sad- melodrama aside, it was really sweet. And poor Captain.

AntiHop · 26/09/2020 19:46

I don't get why allison didn't call the police herself when she knew about the burglary?

1990s · 26/09/2020 23:45

So is there definitely a series 3? Such good news - one of the best things made for ages. Think I found it originally because of a Mumsnet thread Flowers

AccioWine · 27/09/2020 08:30

Oh good point. Did they say why? I'll just have to watch it again to check. What. A. Shame!

Yes there is definitely a series 3. Theyve been writing it during lockdown, according to interviews they've done. Not that I'm stalking following them online or anything..........
chillied · 27/09/2020 08:39

Because she'd told Mike to call the police. And she didn't / couldn't know his phone was about to die.

I loved the burglary episode, so many clever touches like the dolls eyelids, Julian saying why 3 knocks, Mike talking to the ghosts with his back to them

1990s · 27/09/2020 09:44

Grin thanks Wine

TheChristmasPrincess · 28/09/2020 19:09

Julian doing morse call on the creepy doll’s eye lids 😆🤣

Literally fell off the bed laughing at that!
