Ghosts Series 2 *Bingewatchers spoiler thread*

Afternoon.
Setting up just in case any other binge watchers did want to discuss so the original stays spoiler-free.
Someone asked why Thomas's love letter kept disappearing - I assumed because he was psychologically at peace with it now: does not need to keep rereading source of heartbreak as it was not from his love. But that was a wild guess on my part and not sure why the closure did not allow him to pass on/move on as a ghost like the other one referred to.
My favourite part of the whole series was Pat being lovely to the younger robber, you know, take the better path pep talk...then on seeing him put chewing gum on the table shouting BORSTAL!!!! at the top of his lungs. Cracked me up, probably because of having to try to get all the used gum off school desks with a knife back in the day. You turned a desk upside down and there'd be 30 bits of pink, yellow, white and grey used and discarded gum stuck under each table Envy >not envy.
I also thought the Captain's scenes were beautifully done and I did tear up at them.

I think the "Buffs" were an army regiment. Can't be bothered to Google!

LunaNorth · 17/10/2020 14:49

It’s something to do with trains I think.

OnCandyStripeLegs · 17/10/2020 15:03

"Steady the buffs!" is great. "Steady the buffs, Fanny!" is brilliant.

iklboo · 17/10/2020 15:03

Steady, the Buffs!” means “Keep calm!” or “Steady on, boys!” and can be traced to the late 19th century. The “Buffs” in the phrase is a reference to a famous British Army unit, the Third Regiment of Foot.

Apparently.

crankysaurus · 17/10/2020 16:09

I did like it when Mary and Kitty got excited about playing hide and seek, kind of want nice thing to happen for them.

crankysaurus · 17/10/2020 16:10

And Fanny telling the burglars off for only taking the pewter, was there something about that, she seemed to know what she was talking about

BlusteryShowers · 17/10/2020 16:19

I just took Fanny and the burglars to be that she knows the value of everything so in a weird way, she wants the burglars to be impressed by their haul and not just treat it all like bric a brac.

The jewel being missing though does suggest financial trouble in her lifetime as well.

PatriciaHolm · 17/10/2020 16:20

Kipling used "Steady the Buffs" a couple of times, contributing to it's popularity; the regiment were known as the Buffs because of the buff (yellow) colour of part of their uniform. Supposedly one of their captains used to yell "Steady, The Buffs!" whilst on parade...

There are 6 episodes, aren't there? I've watched the first 4....

I hope they don't get 'sucked off' though 😄

AnswerTheQuestionDamnYourEyes · 17/10/2020 17:34

Oh I do hope no-one gets "sucked off" any time soon.
Bring on series 3!

Puffinhead · 17/10/2020 23:07

@LemmysAceCard

The burglary episode where Julian bent over with no trousers on and the other male ghosts sort of go “uurrggh” and look away. At the end when Thomas said “I would like to fight again, could that be a club” had me in stitches.
We’ve been watching Ghosts on repeat since it first started - it’s our go to easy, family viewing.

I think the fight club line is my favourite of the entire 2nd series - the idea that after all that time together they’ve just discovered something new! I also like the ‘what I would wear today, today’ club and Thomas rocking his double denim!

Re. Kitty, as someone else said I also think she died while playing a game of hide and seek (suffocation is a good shout) and her race doesn’t come into it (colour-blind casting).

I thought something would happens to Kitty in the last episode. I wasn’t sure why they would have gone to the bother of mentioning the ghost who was ‘sucked off’ in the Episode about Thomas and then have the ectoplasm or whatever come out of her at the wedding. I’m very excited if there is a Xmas special about Julian.

crankysaurus · 17/10/2020 23:48

I missed anything about ectoplasm, will have to rewatch

MissFitton · 17/10/2020 23:52

My ds thinks that Mary's ectoplasm means she was poisoned and, like Thomas, she can't fully get rid of it as a ghost.
All we can deduce from this is he's inherited my sense of overthinking things... 😁

Lemonylemony · 18/10/2020 04:35

Wasn’t it Kitty who got so excited about there being a wedding that she ghost-vomited? (Queue everyone led by Pat “err, that’s never happened before....) is that what you’re meaning by ectoplasm?
Or am I getting mixed up

RHTawneyonabus · 18/10/2020 08:17

Yes @Lemonylemony it’s about five min into the last episode. Ghost vomit also works!

Mags5Bia · 18/10/2020 09:18

I also think Kitty was poisoned, maybe she accidently drank something toxic while playing hide and seek.

CaveMum · 18/10/2020 18:19

Yay, I’ve found my people! My favourite line of the whole series was when Robin said “You’re all descended from me and my sister” 😂😂😂

MoonahStone · 18/10/2020 18:20

I lurves Robin which you might guess from my user name!

CaveMum · 18/10/2020 18:44

Regarding Kitty and the possible parallels between her and Dido Elizabeth Belle, there was an interesting piece about her in the recent BBC documentary Enslaved fronted by Samuel L Jackson. They talked about her great uncle Lord Mansfield and how his ruling as Lord Chief Justice in 1772 on the case of an escaped slave, whose owner wanted to send him back to the West Indies, may well have been influenced by his love and affection for Dido and which ultimately brought about the end of slavery in Britain.
