Ghosts Series 2 *Bingewatchers spoiler thread*

Afternoon.
Setting up just in case any other binge watchers did want to discuss so the original stays spoiler-free.
Someone asked why Thomas's love letter kept disappearing - I assumed because he was psychologically at peace with it now: does not need to keep rereading source of heartbreak as it was not from his love. But that was a wild guess on my part and not sure why the closure did not allow him to pass on/move on as a ghost like the other one referred to.
My favourite part of the whole series was Pat being lovely to the younger robber, you know, take the better path pep talk...then on seeing him put chewing gum on the table shouting BORSTAL!!!! at the top of his lungs. Cracked me up, probably because of having to try to get all the used gum off school desks with a knife back in the day. You turned a desk upside down and there'd be 30 bits of pink, yellow, white and grey used and discarded gum stuck under each table Envy >not envy.
I also thought the Captain's scenes were beautifully done and I did tear up at them.

😂😂😂 Jammin and Lemony

If anyone is into podcasts I can highly recommend “You’re Dead To Me” on BBC Sounds, it’s written and presented by Greg Jenner, who is one of the self proclaimed “history nerds” on Horrible Histories. Each episode generally centres on an historical figure/event and he discusses the topic with a historian specialising in the subject plus a comedian. They’re educational, and very funny but not suitable for kids as there is a bit of swearing and sex talk!

RHTawneyonabus · 18/10/2020 22:22

I’m rewatching with DSs 10 and 8 after some suggested it was family fun. I’ve had to explain the meaning of ‘free pass’ and ‘bank account in Fiji’ and ‘Tory MP sex scandal’. It’s been educational!

JunoJigglewick · 20/10/2020 12:07

Oh I loves Mary and Kitty.

PracticalTacticalBrilliance · 23/11/2020 16:36

Oh goodness, very late to this but have watched both series recently and love it so much!
I think Pat, Kitty and the Captain are my favourite. Also totally in love with Ben Willbond in general I think.

Bloodypunkrockers · 24/11/2020 14:58

I've never been more excited for a show

AnswerTheQuestionDamnYourEyes · 26/11/2020 19:46

Wahey! I'm really looking forward to the Christmas special. I'm looking forward to learning more about Julian.

kittybloom · 26/11/2020 23:20

Is there really a Christmas special? So happy if that is the case, it’s our favourite comedy series.

@CaveMum - that was our family’s favourite line along with the side glance and ‘just kidding’ after comment.

My favourite character is Kitty. I saw the actor being interviewed and she said that she decided it would be better to play it as someone who just saw the best in everyone and I do think it works perfectly.

Like some of the earlier posters, I took from the final episode re random ghost vomit that she’d been poisoned. I personally don’t see the fact that the actor is black is going to be relevant (I think someone earlier referred to it as being a colour blind character?) as she also plays a plague victim. Which has to be right as otherwise there would be v ltd opportunities for non-white actors for this type of series.

CaveMum · 27/11/2020 06:08

So excited for the Christmas special! Also looking forward to the Motherland one!

Can I admit to getting a bit teary at one point, when the boy who shot Pat was saying sorry Blush

I full on sobbed!
MmeSzyszkoBohusz · 27/11/2020 07:11

@CaveMum I discovered yesterday that You’re Dead to Me now has a “radio edit” on BBC Sounds, which is possibly slightly less entertaining, but definitely child-friendly (I love Greg Jenner... watched the interview on Hay Festival online about his book on the history of celebrity, really interesting!)

CaveMum · 27/11/2020 08:17

@MmeSzyszkoBohusz I spotted that on my BBC Sounds app - I much prefer the ruder versions 😂

I’m thinking about getting his book “Dead Famous”, he was tweeting last night about trying to engage the general public with a wider range of history than just “Tudors and Hitler”. It led to a great thread of people recommending books about lesser known parts of British history.

I went at “Hello Skip” 😭😭😭
MmeSzyszkoBohusz · 27/11/2020 17:27

@CaveMum me too! 😂
Would definitely recommend the book - bought it after the Hay Q&A.

IsFinnRogersDead · 27/11/2020 17:45

I lasted until the knot tying.

Ulysses · 28/11/2020 06:58

I came across Horrible Histories the other night on CBBC and was delighted to see half the cast in it. Pat was playing Julius Caesar or possibly Nero. I am going to check out the Dead to Me podcast.

I am really looking forward to the Christmas special as well. It will be on of my festive highlights.

CupoTeap · 29/11/2020 07:29

Good cause I might have done more than a bit teary Grin

CaveMum · 01/12/2020 12:03

Just seen this on Twitter (retweeted by Greg Jenner), it’s utter genius! Someone has edited clips of Ghosts to create a “Friends-style” opening title sequence 😂😂😂😂😂

Bloodypunkrockers · 01/12/2020 21:51

Christmas special now announced for 23rd December. So excited

StoicWalrus · 02/12/2020 22:28

Those of you who have watched with kids, what have they made of it? My DH thinks our nearly 10 year old would like it. The sex stuff will probably go right over her head as she's pretty oblivious to that stuff. But I'm not entirely convinced.

IsFinnRogersDead · 03/12/2020 10:25

StoicWalrus my 10 year old loved it, loads went over his head. The 14 year old has watched it all twice. The 16 year old has popped in and out but it turned out later he thought we'd been watching Horrible Histories and he thought us all a bit sad.

kittybloom · 05/12/2020 16:22

@StoicWalrus I watched both series with my 8 (nearly 9) DD and 11yr old DS. They both absolutely love it. Agree with poster above, the slightly dodgy bits just goes over their heads. I think they see it like an extension of Horrible Histories.

StoicWalrus · 05/12/2020 19:51

Thank you. I will try it out. It gives me an excuse to watch it again!

MrsWooster · 05/12/2020 21:54

What a blissful series it is! Me and DP watched, then rewatched with dc 7&10 and the sex stuff goes completely over 7yo’s head and mostly over 10’s. We’re all now rewatching it and Robin is probably the fave- ‘moonah stone!’ echoes round the house at least 10 times a day, along with ‘Castle donkah donk!!’for chess...
