Ghosts Series 2 *Bingewatchers spoiler thread*

Afternoon.
Setting up just in case any other binge watchers did want to discuss so the original stays spoiler-free.
Someone asked why Thomas's love letter kept disappearing - I assumed because he was psychologically at peace with it now: does not need to keep rereading source of heartbreak as it was not from his love. But that was a wild guess on my part and not sure why the closure did not allow him to pass on/move on as a ghost like the other one referred to.
My favourite part of the whole series was Pat being lovely to the younger robber, you know, take the better path pep talk...then on seeing him put chewing gum on the table shouting BORSTAL!!!! at the top of his lungs. Cracked me up, probably because of having to try to get all the used gum off school desks with a knife back in the day. You turned a desk upside down and there'd be 30 bits of pink, yellow, white and grey used and discarded gum stuck under each table Envy >not envy.
I also thought the Captain's scenes were beautifully done and I did tear up at them.

Yes I was surprised by that too

chrislilleyswig · 04/10/2020 18:30

@Lemonylemony

Didn’t realise until I looked up the cast that the same actor plays both Robin and Humphrey’s head.
He is very lovely IRL. Although he has lockdown hair at the moment which is a bit long Grin

Hi all, I've found my place. I Iove this show, I'm thinking kitty was killed in hide and seek as well, maybe by accident. I loved the captain episode and seeing him happier as a wedding organiser. Love Thomas as well, he's my ghost free pass :-)

chrislilleyswig · 05/10/2020 19:45

I'll be watching tonight. Love this episode

Love the lady chatterley scenes

CountFosco · 05/10/2020 22:11

Just finished it. I love Mary's character development, her description of Thomas's death and her description of ghosts being 'sucked off' and her oufit of the day: 'and a simple lobster hat'.

Last episode was so perfect and I love that Humphrey's head and body were reunited again like in the last episode of series 1. Actually loads of Humphrey this year as well which was fab, his resignation when Fanny started ranting then his description of his marriage when she finally finish but also the volleyball game and him saying 'to be honest, it's just nice to be included'. And the Captain saying 'this is potentially explosive' because it's a BOMB' and 'I realise that was a futile gesture but I was caught up in the moment'.

Just watched ep 3 again. The ending is just beautifully done.

Lemonylemony · 06/10/2020 08:14

I love Mary's character development

I love how most of the time she ‘Maryizes’ her language (“Be there a third option?” when being asked to vote between Thomas and Captain to do the moonah ston reading) but then sometimes comes out with very modern language (in the free pass episode when they’re wrapping a scene and she’s all “Thankyou for your hard work people, it does not go unnoticed”), it’s so incongruous but in just the right way.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 06/10/2020 08:30

Yes love that about Mary - in the Grey Lady episode when Alison was trying to convince Julian, Robin and Mary to do their haunting, and Mary goes all Dragon’s Den - ‘and for that reason, I’m out’.

chrislilleyswig · 06/10/2020 20:29

We watched 4, 5 and 6 again last night

Episode 4 is just exquisite

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 07/10/2020 08:16

episode 4 is excellent'with everyone's take on the poet's affair, particularly Robin Grin

BillStickersIsInnocent · 07/10/2020 09:15

Yes. Now man called Thomas do poem. Grin

LunaNorth · 07/10/2020 09:48

“Your lady shoes” Grin

BillStickersIsInnocent · 07/10/2020 09:51

Grin love it.

Something bothered me about the way they dismounted the horses though - is that the proper way to do it? I have no experience with horses but I thought you swung your leg back over the horse not forward over its head.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 07/10/2020 09:51

I am clearly obsessed

Lemonylemony · 07/10/2020 12:45

“Something bout flowers or wine or girls or something”

Grin
AccioWine · 07/10/2020 22:06

Yesss! I think Robin has some of the best lines. I love the part where he says everyone is descended from him and his sister, and then says joking when they all looked shocked, with just a little side eye to the camera. Class!

Nookable · 08/10/2020 22:34

Just finished this, going to be a long wait til the Christmas episode. The director puts lots of behind the scenes stuff on Twitter including a close up of Mike's Ghost Chart which has some great details.

mobile.twitter.com/kingsley_tom/status/1308148186087862275

Pat's obituary says his last name is Butcher Grin

Plus Kitty has a proper painting not a drawing by Alison so seems like she was some kind of noble woman.

Mags5Bia · 08/10/2020 23:30

Binge watched them twice. I love it, the burglary one is my fave. Does anyone else think Kitty sounds a bit like Mavis Cruet from Willo the Wisp ?

Lemonylemony · 17/10/2020 08:07

Someone ruined this for me last night, pointing out that inheritance tax would have meant that Alison and Mike would almost certainly not been able to keep the house.

Party poopers

This bloke did!

stately home

Maybe Lady B left enough cash to cover the Inheritance Tax bill?

RHTawneyonabus · 17/10/2020 09:17

I love this show so much it’s bang on where my sense of humour is. I imagined Kitty as having a story similar to Dido Belle’s (I saw a film about her on Netflix ages ago) she’s very obviously brought up as a lady of the time in that she’s been hugely sheltered about things like where babies come from. It makes me very sad to think she might have died in a mistletoe bride type situation.

I love that while there is character development they don’t change essentially that whole episode where it seems that Captain has a great unspoken passion but it’s actually a bomb. He and lady Button still retain their stiff upper lip yelling ‘STEADY THE BUS FANNY’ when he thinks she’s about to crack is so funny.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/10/2020 11:44

Isn't it "steady the buffs"? ( My dad used to say this!)

iklboo · 17/10/2020 11:49

Loved this series. Great writers, great characters, wonderful chemistry between the cast. Brilliant.

MissFitton · 17/10/2020 12:52

Having watched it at least four times I can confirm it's 'steady the buffs'. Quite happy to watch again to check! 😁

RHTawneyonabus · 17/10/2020 14:07

Ah Steady the buffs. Not idea what a buff is (sounds nautical) but I will try and use it in conversation!
