Ghosts Series 2 *Bingewatchers spoiler thread*

Afternoon.
Setting up just in case any other binge watchers did want to discuss so the original stays spoiler-free.
Someone asked why Thomas's love letter kept disappearing - I assumed because he was psychologically at peace with it now: does not need to keep rereading source of heartbreak as it was not from his love. But that was a wild guess on my part and not sure why the closure did not allow him to pass on/move on as a ghost like the other one referred to.
My favourite part of the whole series was Pat being lovely to the younger robber, you know, take the better path pep talk...then on seeing him put chewing gum on the table shouting BORSTAL!!!! at the top of his lungs. Cracked me up, probably because of having to try to get all the used gum off school desks with a knife back in the day. You turned a desk upside down and there'd be 30 bits of pink, yellow, white and grey used and discarded gum stuck under each table Envy >not envy.
I also thought the Captain's scenes were beautifully done and I did tear up at them.

So, did Mary and Robin ‘do it’ at the party?

I reckon they just had a snog. DH reckons they did.

Which led to an interesting conversation about our respective moral standpoints and whether ghosts can have sex Grin

Watched all of the episodes now, really enjoyed it. Thought ep1 was probably the weakest though so hope people who are new to it stick with it. I wonder if we’ll ever find out more about Kitty's story, she’s DDs favourite character & we’ve been trying to work out how old she is supposed to be and how she died.

MissFitton · 29/09/2020 06:51

I agree that the first episode is the weakest, (although good, I was hoping it wasn't just going to turn into fanny jokes) I was worried I wasn't going to like this series. Have watched all of them twice now though and it's so brilliant. I have persuaded dc1 to watch it now so I've got an excuse for a third watch. Grin

BillStickersIsInnocent · 29/09/2020 06:58

Watched ep 2 again last night when it broadcast. Completely missed the cock drawn in squirty cream on the fridge the first time round.

Also Pat when he clutches his shorts when torn being joining the party and returning to the Captain, just beautifully observed.

chrislilleyswig · 29/09/2020 11:30

Watched it three times now and you do pick up all the little details on rewatching

Yes the cock on the fridge door was funny, Humphrey's "she didn't understand me.......well she was French"

Wonderful

mogtheexcellent · 29/09/2020 18:59

Was brilliant. I loved the burglary episode, really good to see Mike trying to deal with the ghosts.

I live the idea that other ghosts have been and gone (like Annie) opens up possibilities for the future. They havent covered all the deaths because they want to do a couple each series rather than all at once. We know how Fanny, pat, mary,Thomas and the plague people died. Would love to know about Kitty.

AccioWine · 29/09/2020 19:46

Yes, lots of deaths still to be explored. I hope they have many more series'!

Reallybadidea · 29/09/2020 19:53

My absolute favourite bit of the whole series is Robin and Mary being awkward around each other after the party and Robin saying "We cool?" It makes me chuckle just thinking about it.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 29/09/2020 19:59

I really liked Mike starting to overcome his fear of the ghosts by trying to communicate with them.

GunsAndShips · 29/09/2020 20:00

I wonder what Mary's full story is too. She's clearly singed but not burned. I suspect there's more to it than we know.

I loved the multiple narrations of the duel flashback.

IHateCoronavirus · 29/09/2020 20:11

The bit were Mike turned on the taps to make steam, lit a candle and asked “How many are there?” And Julian wrote 20! I can’t even remember what he was intending to write I laughed so much! Grin

ChickenGotLegs · 29/09/2020 21:17

I did LOL when she was trying to get a lift home from the reunion and met the other girl who said 'Hello were you murdered hitchhiking too?' Grin

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 29/09/2020 21:21

Julian was writing '2 of them', but only got as far as '2 o...' Grin
I love that Julian is a total Tony Blair rip off with the pattern of speech and hand gestures when he's trying to be ministerial.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 30/09/2020 17:28

Fanny listening to Humphrey and ending up celebrating love over propriety at the wedding was just lovely.

And yes, the idea that some of them can move on, and what will it take for this bunch (& do they even want to) is tantalising!

AccioWine · 30/09/2020 17:29

I wonder if any do move on, would they introduce new ones?? It sounds like they had lots of suggested ghosts. It would that ruin the dynamic?

IHateCoronavirus · 30/09/2020 20:48

YES! That was it Grin it had me in stitches.

I would be gutted to see any of them moving on. They are all fab!

GinAtMerlottes · 30/09/2020 20:56

There was a just a moment when Fanny was getting upset when they were clearing the garden and the captain pointed his stick at her and shouted something “Come on Fanny! Stow the buffs!” meaning pull yourself together. It made me HOWL. Even now it’s making me giggle most days.

chrislilleyswig · 30/09/2020 21:01

I had a mild panic at the thought that the bit in the last episode with Keith Darren Dean would mean that Pat would move on

I think this works so well because of the characters they've got. To change that dynamic would change the whole feel and investment from viewers.

I find that I like all the ghosts - well maybe likes not the right word, more I enjoy them. It's hard to have a favourite.

Well expect for the fact that Robin is luscious Larry so he has the edge for me Blush

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 01/10/2020 05:29

They are all related! although very far back so children would be ok, said the poet :)
and Robin saying all from him and his sister and a sideways look to camera when they reacted

Saucery · 01/10/2020 07:05

I loved Robin’s little “ooooh! Every time!” when the candle was lit, because fire lighting the darkness is still a wonder to him.

MissFitton · 01/10/2020 11:31

I agree that occasionally shouting 'come on Fanny, steady the buffs!' will get us through whatever the next few months has to throw at us! Grin

mogtheexcellent · 01/10/2020 17:36

Just rewatched series 1. Why are uk series so short!? Wouldnt get only 6 episodes in the US.

Moonah stone. Just superb. Grin

I laughed just reading that. Also at the wedding where he messes with the lights. "Robinnn". "It wasn't me". Mutters with a grin "it WAS me". It's all in the delivery. Love Robin
Quackersandcheese3 · 01/10/2020 18:13

I’m new to this show. Binged it all in couple days. It was so enjoyable and funny. I think I saw they’re going to do season 3 which is great news. There’s so much more to explore.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 01/10/2020 18:35

I was awake at 5 this morning and decided to have a rewatch,
lovely
