Apologies if there is already a thread but I missed it? Been watching since episode 2 and always adore it... did I miss something in episode 1 about change of presenters? Is this just because it is previous contenders or is it permanent? I miss George et al. Loving seeing all the old faces though! Thanks

I enjoyed it, but it made me a bit sad as they all just love hugging and high fiving each other Sad

I think I heard one of them say “I really want to hug you right now” think it was Poh

AiryFairy1 · 15/09/2020 09:15

I googled Reece’s ramen dish and found an Aussie website that has done a daily recap with no spoilers - their commentary is hilarious!

(I’m still none the wiser about his dish but I’m going to have a go at spicy pork noodles this week - I have a reasonable selection of the ingredients 🤗)

StartupRepair · 15/09/2020 09:19

I watched this all the way through in Australia and loved it. It was a very heartwarming break from the pandemic anxiety we were all gripped with. Also loved the duversi of the contestants and judges. Melissa is a star.
George was lucky to avoid a jail sentence. He underpaid the staff in his empire by $7.5 million.

They did not stop filming for covid. Just put them all in separate apartments and did not let them hug. At the time the numbers weren't too bad in Melbourne. They did spin it out, I think because they had no other content at the tv station.

Ontheboardwalk · 15/09/2020 10:38

StartupRepair thanks for the update re the filming for
Covid

BooFuckingHoo2 · 15/09/2020 17:48

@AiryFairy1 please could you link? I’d love that!

BooFuckingHoo2 · 15/09/2020 20:02

@AiryFairy1 that was amazing but I pressed the button at the end and saw who’s in the finale Shock so anyone else who reads, close the article once you’ve read it!

AiryFairy1 · 15/09/2020 20:52

Ah noo 🤦🏻‍♀️So Sorry 😓

Ontheboardwalk · 15/09/2020 22:32

Oh no BooFuckingHoo2

XiCi · 18/09/2020 10:17

Oh no, I'm not going to read the article yet just in case. I'd be gutted if I saw any spoilers.
I'm still salivating from Brendans dan dan noodles. I'm going to try and make them for dinner tonight.

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 19/09/2020 13:11

Oh I found you, yay. This is mine and DH's favourite programme and we will look forward to it all year.

Unfortunately I hate I'm mad me Poh with the fiery hatred of a thousand suns, a level of hatred previously only reserved for Gregg Wallace Wink Her "I'm going to leave everything til the last minute everyone look at me, oh I forgot to turn my rice on everyone look at me, oh I'm just so ditzy and silly and foolish everyone look at me" makes me want to throw her on the hibachi grill and make a savoury caramel to go with her. I actually also think she is (mostly unless she gets lucky or has rehearsed something) a shit cook. And yet they love her. She served up a plate of raw fucking food and they love her, she cuts some tofu into a shape and they love her.

Actually I find her so unbearable I would really like to know if she is put through to the final, or even worse, wins it as I seriously think I might stop watching then. I don't want to google in case she isn't though and I will see who wins! @StartupRepair would you mind if I PMed you to ask about Poh - I promise I won't post spoilers on the thread!

On that note, I was almost weeping last night - and no one could hug!

I adore Sarah T and Reynolds and would love them both to be in the final. If Laura cooks any more pasta I will put her on the hibachi with Po too.

Lastly. does anyone think Jock must smell absolutely gorgeous, of fabulous clean smelling cologne maybe, as he is so dapper? Grin I'm in a local lockdown area I don't get out of the house enough

AiryFairy1 · 19/09/2020 13:36

Lol @IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp Grin

My sister and her husband do a MC sweepstake every year with the winner to cook the loser a Masterchef style meal. They never do though, so it’s always “I owe him 4 dinners, he owes me 3” type of thing 😅

Ooh I didn’t finish watching last night’s ep so might go and do that now with the tissue box (I have a streaming cold so today is a tissues and tv couch day anyway!)

I just wept at Reynold’s Down the Rabbit Hole ... he’s so brilliant when he brings his A game!

WhoseKids · 19/09/2020 14:36

I had tears in my eyes at last night's elimination. Gutted that Patsa Laura and meh Emelia are still there and one of my faves has gone.
.
I like Poh, she gets airtime cos there's feck all happening. Reynold can only cook things he has already done, like the white dessert and down the rabbit hole. The rest is a bit shit.

Love the friendships like Brendan and Reece. Sarah T is fab.

Ontheboardwalk · 19/09/2020 15:06

Well I didn’t see that coming! Can’t believe one of my favourites have gone when there are so many rubbish cooks left

AiryFairy1 · 19/09/2020 15:12

Also just caught up 😭😭😭

I think Poh has chilled out a bit since the beginning, yes she does bring a little flamboyance- everyone else is mostly quite serious when they’re cooking which doesn’t make good tv.

I do like Sarah T and Brendan is growing on me like a little enoki mushroom because he’s made delicious looking food recently.

Does anyone know why he called it Pang Pang? I didn’t get the ref 🤔

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 19/09/2020 15:16

Re last night (no spoilers!) I do think that this year that they are running out of superlatives (well, Melissa and Jock as Andy mostly repeats what they say but adds "mate" on the endGrin) enthusing in the "best of the best/legends return" style, apart from the odd thing, everything everyone has cooked has been amazing and the best they've done so far. Which it probably has, they're seasoned competitors, but some of them seem to be hearing it a lot and buying into it quite a lot and I think that's what happened last night - someone has a really really good run and had lots of praise for what they've done to date and try and "out do" themselves and come to grief. (See also, Reynold fucking up something really basic Wink)

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 19/09/2020 15:18

Airy I wondered if Pang was his last name (but didn't want to google in case I saw the winner!) I am fond of Brendan too, when I think of him being a social worker I feel so old though...

StartupRepair · 19/09/2020 21:44

@IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp sure, feel free to PM me and I will discuss Poh. One thing I can say here is that Poh has a high profile in Australia and there was a lot of talk on social media that she was more highly paid than the other contestants.

Dontlickthetrolley · 20/09/2020 09:35

Friday was so sad and then no cuddles pushed me over the edge. In previous years they all lived in the same house, so would be bubbled together, is that not the case this year?

I'm in the minority Sarah T annoys me a lot. Khan's facial expressions are amazing, especially when there is big shocks, when ice cream Ben left being my favourite! And love how he always wears the same t-shirt in different colours, has he got a sponsorship deal going on?

I love Reece, although 1 question I thought of the other day, they said he was vegan, does he never taste his food? I remember one episode when Ameena was cooking and she asked someone else to taste it as it wasn't halal.

AiryFairy1 · 20/09/2020 10:34

It never even occurred to me that they were being paid to be on the show 🤦🏻‍♀️

With vegan Reece - I guess not. I’m also watching an old USA season from my sick couch and one of the contestants was allergic to shellfish 🦞 but that didn’t stop her doing a crab 🦀 challenge, and then she said was allergic to chocolate in the Black Forest cake challenge (which she won, despite it not tasting great, it was only because the other contestant’s cake was worse and she was trying a tactic to get the allergic one out- I wouldn’t exactly say MC is much a game of strategy myself 🤷🏻‍♀️)

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/09/2020 10:37

I was surprised they still did the relay as presumably team members were handling the same equipment. It wouldn't bother me personally, but theoretically the virus could be transmitted that way?

Also gutted with Friday's elimination.

StartupRepair · 20/09/2020 12:18

I actually briefly met one of the producers of MasterChef Australia while filming had finished but it was still being aired. She said that the contestants were all really nice and that many of them were relieved to be doing MasterChef as their restaurants and businesses were all shut down.

AiryFairy1 · 20/09/2020 13:22

Oh that’s so nice to hear @StartupRepair please share any other non-spoily news if you feel inclined!
