Apologies if there is already a thread but I missed it? Been watching since episode 2 and always adore it... did I miss something in episode 1 about change of presenters? Is this just because it is previous contenders or is it permanent? I miss George et al. Loving seeing all the old faces though! Thanks

I can't stand the American MasterChef, or Gordon Ramsey for that matter. It's so catty and edited to try to be as dramatic as possible. I find a lot of American Gordon Ramsey shows much the same. The Aussie one seems more concerned with creating great chefs instead of arguments. And the standard is SO HIGH. The Australian contestants produce more technical and elaborate dishes in their auditions than the UK/US contestants produce by the final.

Jonsnowsghost · 02/09/2020 13:53

Agree about the American Masterchef. I only watched a few episodes but hated how much they tried to get each other eliminated, they were all so mean! The Australian one they're all so supportive.

And the talent! I once caught a few episodes of Masterchef Australia kids and the kids were producing such incredible food, they could beat any of the adult UK contestants.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 02/09/2020 14:01

I always think the Masterchef America ones just aren't mastercheffy enough, the food portions are huge.

Agree about the Australian kids one. My God they put me to shame.

GrandTheftWalrus · 02/09/2020 16:56

@LBOCS2 I saw some were on prime but didn't know what ones.

Next time I'm on nights I'll watch them.

Thanks!

TrashKitten10 · 04/09/2020 07:11

The Katy Perry connection had me completely baffled and I had to google. We must have had a different opening song all this time as there's definitely no Hot n Cold by Katy Perry in our Masterchef Australia.

Jonsnowsghost · 04/09/2020 07:30

Yes we have that stupidly catchy theme tune!

AdoreTheBeach · 04/09/2020 07:58

@Ontheboardwalk you’ll find there’s a huge difference between USA and Australia. Australia is about the cooking and the journey. They learn and cook and hang things. Much, much higher standard of cooking and talent. Also, Everyone is supportive, kind and respectful.

USA series is none of that. We can’t stomach the USA version any longer after discovering Australia We’ve seen series 9 and 10, then went to watch series one before now watching current series.

AiryFairy1 · 04/09/2020 08:11

I didn’t really enjoy the KP episode- it was just too much! And we don’t even get the benefit of hearing her theme song, what’s that all about?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

And Jock’s 3 hog corn cheese .... over 500g of cheese! I mean like cheese but wow!!!! (I’d still eat it though Grin)

My thoughts exactly. Can't watch the American MC or GR.

I'm so sick of pasta Laura.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 06/09/2020 12:26

Oh my god, how bloody annoying was KP!

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/09/2020 15:52

That's Ben now gone from the competition. All they mention is a personal issue.

Hes still in the starting credits

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2020 16:03

I was wondering why Ben left and didn't dare Google, so thanks for explaining @PegasusReturns.

The KP episode was annoying, but I think the whole purpose was for her to distract the contestants to see if they could keep their focus.

I have a soft spot for Callum from Series 1 (I think). He was only 19 back then. I like Jess and Simon too. I'm also enjoying the new presenters.

And like others I much prefer this Masterchef to the US one, it's just so much more pleasant with no bitchiness.

LIZS · 06/09/2020 17:21

Apparently Ben was accused of assaulting a teenage girl Shock We are dipping in and out of this series. Love Reynold. Poh is lovely but portrayed as clueless until the last minute which I find irritating.

AiryFairy1 · 06/09/2020 18:30

So disappointed about Ben as he was one of my favs! I’m coming round to Poh again... on the beginning she was portrayed or was a bit too wacky - it’s just not sustainable Grin
Love Jess Simon Sarah T Reynold 🥰 I’ve started watching the South African MC on Prime ... the level of cooking /food knowledge is way below Australia’s 😅

Ontheboardwalk · 07/09/2020 21:05

AdoreTheBeach I like both and absolutely agree there’s a different pace/style to both of them. I am getting slightly annoyed at the slow pace of Australia

We're on week 5?? and only one goes every week and there are what 14 of them left?

That’s proper tv commitment which does concern me if I can keep up, especially as each episode is an hour and a half long

WhoseKids · 08/09/2020 19:34

Reynold has some serious and basic faults. The chocolate cake was his one job.

I quite like Poh. Pasay Laura can do one.

Sarah Clare and Brenden are in trouble tonight.
.
I really don't like team challenges.

LBOCS2 · 08/09/2020 20:02

I don't mind team challenges, I'm not keen on pressure tests.

Poh was my favourite when I watched the first series way-back-when (I was living in Aus when it first came out) but on rewatching series one more recently she irritated me then. And she's still annoying me a bit now. She's really ditzy and disorganised still and I just feel like she should have developed a bit in the intervening 11 years?

AiryFairy1 · 09/09/2020 17:26

I find the pressure tests too stressful and a slightly unfair of eliminating them as it’s not a true representation of their cooking, especially on the back of a team challenge.

I think the invention test would be a good eliminator!

I wonder if Poh’s ditzy persona has been “cast”, so she’s playing a character of herself, and in real life she acts her age and is mainly quite sensible with a quirky arty flair. She’s been in the business for 11 years so there must be some substance to her!

I’m a bit over-invested in it this year!

BooFuckingHoo2 · 09/09/2020 19:30

I never realised how irritating Katy Perry is until o watched this 😂

WhoseKids · 10/09/2020 21:25

Poh is itritating but I think she's had some brilliant cooks.

Reynold flavours have been off, the ultimate no no. He also couldn't make basic chocolate cake. He peaked at that white dish and can only do well if he has practised.

I think an invention test elimination would be good too. I like it when they all get similar ingredients.

Starksforthewin · 11/09/2020 01:36

Why does it have to be so loud and pressured and frantic?

I find it unbearable to watch because of this, but I would love to learn more about the cooking of the dishes without the frenetic soundtrack and people running all over the damn place.

AiryFairy1 · 11/09/2020 06:02

@Starksforthewin it wasa bit too frenetic yesterday 🤯

Don’t worry, lovely soothing Bake Off starts soon... we can decompress with that 😇

WhoseKids · 11/09/2020 13:37

The earlier series were much better at sharing recipes and tips. I have liked the contestant's masterclass this time.

Nearly top ten!

Dontlickthetrolley · 14/09/2020 20:49

Tonight is the first corona episode.

Ontheboardwalk · 14/09/2020 21:54

Loved tonight’s first corona episode!

Obviously I don’t want to google anything about the show for fear of spoilers but was wondering how much it impacted them and how long they were off air. Does anyone know?

I'll google it myself at the end of the show but considering we’ve got about 800 episodes left I’ll have forgotten the question by then 😁
