Apologies if there is already a thread but I missed it? Been watching since episode 2 and always adore it... did I miss something in episode 1 about change of presenters? Is this just because it is previous contenders or is it permanent? I miss George et al. Loving seeing all the old faces though! Thanks

That was so intense to watch 😭 and I still think it’s unfair to use a pressure test as an elimination 😤
Anyway he’ll be ok. I don’t really care who wins now 😅

XiCi · 24/10/2020 16:55

Definitely agree airyfairy. At this stage of the competition you shouldn't be eliminated for 1 pressure test. Makes a bit of a mockery of it actually. When I think back as well its always been the wrong person going home from a pressure test. Don't like them at all.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 25/10/2020 07:29

I’m a bit behind so lots of catching up to do. I loved Melissa at the beginning but she’s really started to grate on me. Has anyone else noticed she has a really dangly lip? Like the bit under the Cupid’s bow? Now I’ve seen it I can’t unsee it 🤦🏻‍♀️

SquishyFishy · 25/10/2020 09:33

I only find it odd when she can't work a spoon properly and seems to tip stuff in her mouth. I'm not sure I'd go as far as criticise her for something she can't change 😁

XiCi · 25/10/2020 09:52

I wonder if shes had fillers? My friend cant eat or drink properly with her lip fillers and its comical watching her. I'm going to have to get the tv on now and have a look. I darent Google in case I see the winner.

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 25/10/2020 20:17

Googled who won cos I don’t care about the two left. Can’t stand either of them.

icklekid · 26/10/2020 04:03

Urgh agree with everyone wrong 2 people gone! I think pressure tests don’t always leave you with the right people for a final. Didn’t something similar happen in Reynolds season? I seem to remember him going out and me thinking it was unfair. Massively biased though!! Out of the 2 left I’m not sure who should win...

Here we are on final day! A nearly two hour episode which I'm hoping is more waffle about why they want to win so much so I can fast forward through a bit Grin

I agree about the pressure tests. It seems like sometimes the more 'average' chefs cruise through with 'nice' dishes week after week but some of the really experimental and exciting chefs bring out some extraordinary dishes but have a few flops and end up going home. Reynold's dishes seemed incredible and I think it's a real shame he's not made it to the final. I think a GBBO approach of assessing their performance across a number of challenges would be a fairer way to decide who to eliminate.

All in all I think the production team have done well to keep it exciting after 60 episodes when they haven't been allowed out of the kitchen. I wonder if families and previous contestants will be allowed in to watch the final tonight. I think after a few smarmy Emilia looks and comments I'm going to have to make a complete u-turn and root for Pasta Laura to win.

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2020 07:07

‘Pasta Laura’ that made me laugh.
Can’t believe months ago I was slightly dreading the number of episodes and how slowly people were being ‘cut’. Now I wish it would continue !
I always love it most when it gets down to around 8 people.
I confess to using fast forward quite a bit during the interminable starts - frequently 10 mins before we get any idea of what the days drama will be.
Have loved -
The new judges
The lack of some of the public / food stall type challenges - never my favourite
The concentration on cooking forced by Covid - somehow it’s not been repetitive or boring.
The dividing of food before tasting - for some reason the way George used to do it drove me a bit bonkers - so slow and with such a look of concentration - this seems less ritualised then before.
Think Melissa is lovely.

Less loved -
Andy’s jackets - he often looks like a young boy not really sure how to dress like an adult - they never seem to fit ! Looks so much better in a suit type affair.
Andys anxiety - this comes and goes but he seems very unsure of himself at times and defers visibly to jock.
‘The garden is in play’ seems very rarely to be used - a recent episode saw two of them out there - I had distinct impression the scallions had been very recently Thrust into some soil via Coles.

As for tonight I feel pretty much the same way about both remaining contestants - think won’t know who I want to win until into it.
I wanted Sarah Chong/theong ?? (I never did know her last name) or Khanh to get further.

MrsBungle · 26/10/2020 08:08

I’m sooo disappointed Reynold has gone. I agree with others that I think going on a pressure test is unfair. He’s by far the most talented and creative chef in the competition. It is far more down to luck with pressure tests. I have warmed to Laura so I’d like her to win now. Meelzy’s smugness is really grating on me now. I don’t think either of them are a patch on some of the talented chef’s who’ve left.

It’s also now annoying me that they keep saying that this competition has been “The best of the best”. No it hasn’t. None of them are previous winners and some came something like 8th in their series. I’ve really enjoyed having some of them back like Reynold, Callum and Jess but this series isn’t the best of the best. Think I’m just being grumpy because Meelsy beat Reynold Grin

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/10/2020 13:15

As much as I cant stand emelia (and last time as well) I thought it was nice when she helped Laura.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives · 26/10/2020 14:29

I had a wee tear when she helped Laura. I saw a brief glimpse of the finale teaser yesterday and I think the other contestant were there. It looks like a service challenge as well, or at least part of it! Can’t wait!

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 26/10/2020 14:57

I confess I may have also shed a tear over the apple helping thing - but then I was fucking furious that Reynold went, because if Meelsy hadn't helped Pasta Lozzle, her apple would have been worse than Reynolds and she would have gone. It's infuriating because I genuinely believe Reynold is far more talented than anyone there.

I do think the Meelsy/Pasta Lozzle friendship contributed to them to being in the final together, with hindsight it shouldn't have been allowed. Poor Reynold. I might have also shed a whole bathtub full of tears when he tried to compose himself and then cried Sad

I was so annoyed about it that I also googled the winner and am going to boycott watching the final (I'm sure the makers are shaking in their shoes over that Grin) but I won't give any spoilers!

Like you heron I would have loved a Sarah T/Khan/Reynold final (and a separate love story of Brendan and Jess falling in love Smile)

God I will so miss Masterchef especially this year, it's been something to keep me distracted. DH and I are trying to think of something else to watch, a box set or something. Any recommendations? We have portrait artist of the year, but that's more a DH thing than mine (he is an artist himself) but I only watch that to keep him company Grin We need something like Masterchef that we both love.

I'm so sad to say goodbye to Jock and Melissa (and her earrings). Sorry Andy Grin

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 26/10/2020 14:58

And oh god yes, I simply don't think I would have been physically able to stop myself from hugging Reynold. That was the worst bit.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives · 26/10/2020 15:35

@IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp the old seasons are nearly all on Prime, I’m tempted to go back and watch it all again just for fun!

Dontlickthetrolley · 26/10/2020 16:42

I'm backing Laura tonight, Meelzy just annoys me. I hope I won't be disappointed but will make sure the TV remote isn't within grabbing distance, just in case! A new TV isn't on the need list at the moment!

IWantToBeMelissaWhenIGrowUp · 26/10/2020 17:08

@Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives I'm watching Series one atm! I should really say re-watching but I don't have much memory pre 2018 so it's like a brand new one for me Grin (This saves me a fortune, I'm working my way through all my books again too Smile)

Ontheboardwalk · 26/10/2020 17:57

I was tempted to watch the earlier seasons on Prime until I clicked and there are 72 episodes in season 1 alone! I can’t handle that

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/10/2020 18:08

I skip all the audition stages and go straight to the competition. Also I don't watch the masterclasses. They used to be a separate episode which was really annoying

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2020 19:05

grandtheftwalrus I too skip the auditions and the masterclasses (their notebooks and pens used to drive me bonkers for some reason!). In fact I have basically loved the season - pure cooking with the odd cube challenge thrown in for good measure.
I realise I’m posting during the crusty final but also can’t stand the ads ! Good luck Pasta Looloo and Mealsie.

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2020 19:06

‘Actual’ not ‘crusty’ !

Viewfromtheisland · 26/10/2020 19:08

Oh no Meelsy crying already...

XFPW · 26/10/2020 19:27

WTF is Sarah Clare wearing?!? She looks like a flippin air hostess!

(Mind you, Khahn’s not much better)

Viewfromtheisland · 26/10/2020 19:41

@XFPW you are so right. Come on Lozzie, Jock being really good.

exLtEveDallas · 26/10/2020 19:46

Considering I’m still mourning the loss of Reynold, I’m surprised at how ‘edge of my seat’ I am. I’m actually feeling really sorry for Laura, and I really don’t want her to win! That burn looks painful.
