Checking in 👍thank you.
Watched Corrie weddings earlier too Karen and Steve classic

eggandonion · 19/07/2020 20:26

Lovely. Is Karen still alive, could she return? I am horrified at how much I have forgotten, but will never forget the Ken, Deirdre, Mike love triangle!

SnakesOrLadders · 19/07/2020 20:28

Sure Karen is and Becky but I loved becky’s exit story and wouldn’t want her to come back

x2boys · 19/07/2020 21:12

Thanks ,how long till Karen now,I'm guessing it's a few years off yet?

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 19/07/2020 23:01

Can I join the gang pretty please? I’ve just discovered classic Corrie and I’m gutted I’ve missed the best years of Annie Walker, Hilda etc, remember watching as a child with my mum, I’m going to be an avid watcher now really enjoying it, just seen Jim carted away in a police van, I had forgotten what a violent drunk he was, the storyline is making me quite uncomfortable, even Andy now thinks Liz has “asked for it” . Talking of Liz my god she was so slim! She used to teach aerobics in real life during her Corrie years, you can really tell, the guns she had on her in that sleeveless black dress at the army do were impressive, shame they are not big enough to punch Jim right back though, horrible man.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 19/07/2020 23:02

Why is Fiona so shouty and constantly in a foul mood? She makes my ears bleed.

x2boys · 19/07/2020 23:26

Fiona is horrible very miserable and shouty I'm not sure why she is so popular 🤷

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 20/07/2020 00:07

She seems particularly horrible to Maxine.

About five years I think? She’s very much a bit player at first - she comes in as a friend of Linda Baldwin (Tina Dingle of Emmerdale fame).

Patch23042 · 20/07/2020 14:19

I’m not getting the “Fiona as femme fatale” thing - she’s so ordinary, and dour with it.

People on the street will now feel some sympathy for Liz - but only because he attacked Curly, Kev and Gary, witnessed by Sally and Judy. Depressing. Even Vicky, a young and bright character, didn’t take it seriously enough before.

FromDespairToHere · 20/07/2020 19:28

I've just caught up on quite a lot of episodes. I totally agree with Deirdre in today's that the men just don't care what Jim has done. Quite a lot of this era Corrie is extremely sexist looking back through a modern lens though.

FromDespairToHere · 20/07/2020 19:29

I did love Judy visiting Liz though, and they have virtually the same hairstyle Grin

Ontheboardwalk · 20/07/2020 22:10

Just watching coronation street villains. If they, badly, edited the scene of Jim attacking Liz what are they going to do for daytime viewing on all the villains scenes!

Tenebrae · 21/07/2020 13:33

Thanks for the new thread!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/07/2020 14:35

Over in Classic Emmerdale they have Rachel Hughes as the femme fatale! Grin Have you ever seen a less fatale femme in your life?

Smallsteps88 · 21/07/2020 15:45

The treatment of Liz is just appalling. All these DV apologists. Making her feel like she’s done something wrong by not wanting to talk to the man that broke into her house to “talk” to her. Hmm

Why can none of them see that stalking a woman round the streets to talk to her when she’s said “no” isn’t normal? Confused

FromDespairToHere · 21/07/2020 16:58

Her own sons are trying to talk her out of having him arrested - it's making me really angry!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/07/2020 17:38

I can’t really remember how the storyline was perceived at the time. It certainly feels very uncomfortable now.

eggandonion · 21/07/2020 19:34

Does it reflect reality? Dh had an aunt who was battered for a good few years, there didn't seem to be any great attempt by her parents or siblings to get her away from her husband. When she left him and went into business they didn't seem pleased. It wasn't good for the children, walking away from her husband.
I don't remember the liz and Jim storyline in ay detail, which worries me bit.

x2boys · 21/07/2020 20:15

I know my grandparents generation were very much against Divorce ,both my Grandmother's said some dreadful things to their Son,s that got divorced and whilst there was no violence involved I think they both felt shame about the stigma ,so maybe there was an element of that with your Aunt @eggandonion?both my Grandmother's would have been well over 100 now this was 20+ years ago though ,I know my own mum was less than supportive when my sister got divorced last year and there was, again no violence she just felt she should stay married regardless of my sister's feelings ,my mum is in her late 70,s.

justthecat · 21/07/2020 20:21

Really bad the way Andy and Steve were making liz to be in the wrong. Jim is doing my head in every time he’s on screen now, that bloody whistle

x2boys · 21/07/2020 20:21

I don't like how they change people's personality,s in soaps ,when Jim first came into it be was generally a,hard working man who loved his wife and kids ,whilst he did drink to much and could be aggressive he was supportive in general ,but now he's a deranged and dangerous drunk.

eggandonion · 21/07/2020 20:23

My mother and mil would be of the queens generation, divorce was not something they approved of, nor babies born outside wedlock.
I'm trying to think if there were any shotgun weddings on corrie, Terry Duckworth?

x2boys · 21/07/2020 20:29

Going back a bit Eddie Yates and Marion ??
