My grandfather abused my grandmother all their married life. He abused all the children too until they each moved out. I know once the children moved out my grandmother moved into another bedroom but that didn’t stop him. I remember overhearing my mother and aunts discussing an incident where he had pulled her out of bed in the middle of the night, not sure what for, but there was lots of tutting between my mum and aunts and deciding whether to get her a lock for her bedroom door. There was absolutely no suggestion she would leave him. Irish Catholic family. Divorce was an unthinkable thing. They just sighed and tutted and called him a bloody bastard. But nothing else was done. This was in the 90’s.

The attitude towards Liz in the DV storyline is appaling. Speculation over what she did to deserve it, how Jim must have pushed to the limit to hit her, the fact her sons are defending Jim - its shocking

Ontheboardwalk · 21/07/2020 20:50

I can’t believe Vicky saying he didn’t actually do anything to her!

He hammered on the door, smashed through the window, had her scared for her life, assaulted neighbours and the police!

Yet people (Curly I’m looking at you) were shaking his hand the next day

Ontheboardwalk · 21/07/2020 20:52

And now Bill and them all are showing solidarity to Jim after breaking his release terms

eggandonion · 21/07/2020 20:54

That handshake from Curly...I thought I must have missed something.

x2boys · 21/07/2020 20:58

Yeah my family were Irish Catholics too Divorce was very taboo,my mum and Dad " had" to get married as she was pregnant and this was early the70,s and they were both 29! my paternal Grandma told my Dad to bring the baby around the back.because of what the neighbours would say my sister being born just six months after the wedding 🙄to his credit he told my Grandma h either took her into front door of he wouldn't bring her around at all.

Ontheboardwalk · 21/07/2020 21:01

I’m still watching and getting more wound up. Didn’t Jim make Steve and Andy’s lives hell which is why they both left home at the earliest opportunity

eggandonion · 21/07/2020 21:13

I am fairly sure big Jim isn't a Catholic so he's not.

Smallsteps88 · 21/07/2020 21:43

He’s not. And Charlie Lawson definitely isn’t! Grin

maisiemoolou · 22/07/2020 17:11

Following! Thank you the new thread Grin

x2boys · 22/07/2020 17:53

Did anyone hear Deirdre say she had an order for Mrs Battersby? That wouldn't be Janice would it?🤔

Smallsteps88 · 22/07/2020 18:08

Yes I heard it and wondered the same!! IT Would be too much of a coincidence that they would just happen to use that name for an unseen character and then use it again for a new family. Wouldn’t it? But why would Deirdre have an order for the battersbys before they moved to the street? Did they move into Don Brennan’s house?

KANNET · 22/07/2020 18:23

Yea when did they arrive. It's not for a few years yet is it

OP posts:
justthecat · 22/07/2020 18:24

I heard the name but thought must be coincidence, it’s too early isn’t it?

KANNET · 22/07/2020 19:20

I know they arrived while jack and Vera where still in the rovers and I don't think they where in the rovers that king

StillCoughingandLaughing · 23/07/2020 09:39

It’s early yet, although Janice does arrive first as a worker at Mike’s factory. However, I’m pretty sure the family was created by Brian Park, so this is probably a coincidence.

justthecat · 23/07/2020 14:59

The view from Reg’s flat is fab

x2boys · 23/07/2020 16:35

It is indeed, anyone notice Alison Webster as the receptionist at the council?

oldbagface · 23/07/2020 16:43

Place marking

Smallsteps88 · 23/07/2020 16:58

I noticed her @x2boys.

I’m enjoying how in classic Corrie they make the details of things the story. Like the cost of the garage and the back and forth between Kevin-Mike- Don bidding on it. And the discussions between Kevin & sally and Don & Josie. In modern Corrie they completely ignore the details of anything like that. Someone wants to buy a house, it’s done in a single episode, no talk of banks or mortgages or bids. The only time they did anything resembling a normal house purchase recently was when ken was selling to Tracey/peter but even then it became a circus show with Tracey out snarking peter and silly sealed bids etc.

Redglitter · 24/07/2020 16:20

Current episodes are April 96. The Battersbys arrive July 97

StillCoughingandLaughing · 27/07/2020 01:11

I love Classic Corrie and it’s great to see some of the old characters again - but when I see fans on the Corrie Facebook page waxing lyrical about how much better it was then, how there was so much more humour, I do think they’re viewing through a rose-tinted nostalgia filter. Yes, lots of it is great, but does anyone really long for the days of Bill Webster borrowing some money from Kevin and Sally and then it being a major topic of conversation for months on end? ‘Here’s 17p, Kev lad; sorry it can’t be more’. ‘Eee, I can’t help thinking you would have fallen out with Rita if it weren’t for me; I WILL pay you back... I can give you another 17p next week’. ‘Sorry Kev; I got pissed and bought a horse. I know I should be paying you back...’

Housewife2010 · 27/07/2020 15:52

Vicky seems to wear that awful bulky suit in every episode.

eggandonion · 27/07/2020 18:05

She is a business woman. She has a suit. I wish she'd come back and do some business woman stuff Tracey would be annoyed.

justthecat · 27/07/2020 18:39

Could be wrong - when the horse was outside the Rovers there were 2 random kids, sure one looked like a young Tyrone Dobbs 🤔
