Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Max has a look of Robbie Williams

JJ seems familiar, reminds me of someone

I’ve seen a lot of criticism online of the amount they talked about tests and bubbles, but I think the people who care enough to chat about Strictly online underestimate the fact that there are literally millions of people who switch on a Saturday night and don’t hear anything else about the show all week. Those casual viewers do need to be reassured that something which looks flagrantly illegal is in fact OK. And over the course of a 90 minute show where viewers will drop in and out they need to say it more than once.

Even Heidi Stevens of the Guardian blog started off saying “it’s going to be strange with no audience, I guess they’re putting in some canned applause”.

cariadlet · 18/10/2020 13:43

I hadn't heard of Max George but he seemed a really nice lad and he was so nervous that he made me feel very motherly and protective of him.

Just googled him and saw that he's 32. I feel so bloody old. 😕

BVB

Baron Von Biscuits - Jamie Laing (heir to McVities biscuit 'empire').

JamminDoughnuts · 18/10/2020 13:44

I thought it was great they mentioned bubbles and social distancing

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 18/10/2020 13:48

@iklboo

BVB

Thanks! Grin I suspected one of the Bs was for biscuit.

Just realised my last post makes no sense as I pasted a quote from another thread. I've not even had a drink!

@EvilRingahBitch - very true. I hadn't thought of it like that. Makes a lot of sense.

Maisie is confident and I'm definitely not slating her just yet. Being loud can be grating (I'm a miserable git) but I'm happy to be proven wrong. As long as she puts the hard work in and enjoys herself.

Sorry all, I meant I'd forgotten the Jordans had been expecting and that their baby arrived in Feb. Only realised as I was scrolling James Jordan's Twitter for Strictly comments.
No further pregnancy as far as I know - sorry for the confusion Smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/10/2020 14:30

They've had a parenting column in Hello, but I think it's switching to a Strictly column now the show is back.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/10/2020 14:33

If Max is 32, that means I can fancy him as that means he's firmly in my age group for fancying people. Not too young not too old

MoonJelly · 18/10/2020 14:39

@MabelChiltern1

Why does Giovanni keep getting middle aged women? I want him to win... should have won with Faye... they were fantastic.
I agree they were brilliant, but she was a ringer up against a very good non-ringer in the shape of Kelvin, so they both probably knew they weren't going to win. All credit to Giovanni for still putting his all into it, I do think he does some of the best choreography.
stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 18/10/2020 14:47

If Max is 32 then I am only old enough to be his mam and not his nan.

I can appreciate the aesthetics but I think 40 is my cut off for fear of being a bit inappropriate.

I don’t think mumsnet hates Maisie by the way. I don’t.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 18/10/2020 14:48

Faye was 2 year ago wasnt she? Not last year?

Walkingtheplank · 18/10/2020 14:55

I dont think HRVY has headlined at Wembley Arena- I think he played at a teens award ceremony and at Voice in a Million which is one of those schools concerts.

Sorry wrong thread! This is my fun one!

JamminDoughnuts · 18/10/2020 15:06

stacey dooley won it that year, beating Fay

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 18/10/2020 15:14

@Foliageeverywhere122

So what are the bubbling rules??

Jamie aka BVB is still very much living with his gf, methinks he’ll struggle to not go on nights out if his behaviour over the last 6 months is anything to go by!

Another thing that struck me is that all the celebs can't possibly be giving up their day jobs for the duration of Strictly, for example Jason Bell was on the NFL Show last night and presumably will be for the rest of the season.
EvilRingahBitch · 18/10/2020 15:23

Each legal household is allowed to absorb one other person who is living on their own (or only with children). It’s originally intended so that you can give support to your elderly bereaved parent or so that other family members can support a lone parent. So it’s as if the spare person were part of the other household, and you don’t have to socially distance from them.

Both the singleton and the household they’re bubbling with can carry on their lives as normal; working, shopping, travelling, but in theory they should be socially distancing rigorously throughout all those activities, as we all should from anyone who isn’t part of our household.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/10/2020 15:26

Iklboo I understood you - it's Ghosts, isn't it?

JJ reminds me of a Proclaimer.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 18/10/2020 15:45

See I always think when I see people on TV sitting 2m apart, if they were to go to a restaurant together, which in tier 1(which London was originally in) you are allowed to, they wouldn't sit 2m apart.

iklboo · 18/10/2020 15:57

@FuzzyPuffling - yes, that's right. Love that show.

Looks like It Takes Two is back a week on Monday (26/10) with Zoe Mon-Wed and Dylan Thurs+Fri:

I'm looking forward to Nicola and Katya and Bill and Oti. I think Monkseal has stopped blogging about Strictly, which is what I'll miss most.
