Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Kudos to the funny posters over at Digital Spy.
NVWLS as a moniker is right up there with LeastWorstMemberOfBlue.

James Jordan has started his Twitter commentary!

Forgot all about Ola being pregnant!

Bool · 18/10/2020 06:22

I think it’s a bit harsh that people saying that Maisie is annoying because she is confident. Personally I LOVE seeing confidence in a young woman. Shame more young women are not more confident. C’mon ladies let’s support confident women please!

@LumpySpacedPrincess

Where were the filming locations for the opening dance sequence? Thought I spotted Rye..
The last bit was at Hampton Court.
MoonJelly · 18/10/2020 07:40

@Fridgeandkitchen

I wish they’d give Anton a good pairing.
He got to the finals last year. They tend to put finalists in with duffers the following year, either to give them a rest or give the other pros a chance.
MoonJelly · 18/10/2020 07:43

@WhatifIfeellikeacat

Can't believe Nadia has been axed this year. That's probably it for her career.
They'll probably be back to higher numbers next year and will need every pro they've got plus possibly some new ones.
BalloonSlayer · 18/10/2020 09:18

I enjoyed it more than I usually enjoy the introductory episode.

I noticed that you hardly saw Jacqui Smith in the group dance. This must mean that she is Not Very Good, which is a shame. I like her.

You saw a lot of Bill Bailey. He looks as if he might turn out to be rather good. This is excellent!

I saw Caroline Quentin on one of the celebrity bake offs recently. I was pleased as I always liked her but I got the strong impression she thought she was going to win and seemed somewhat affronted when her bakes didn't work all that well and she didn't. So I pulled a bit of a face at her being on Strictly, but she definitely doesn't seem to give the impression that she thinks she will win this! She seems lovely, and is a good dancer, I hope she does well.

Funny how my three favourites are the older ones! I suppose it's because what I like about Strictly is seeing someone strive to learn something entirely new after a long career doing something completely different. Am not so keen on the stage school kids who have probably danced for years.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2020 09:22

Ref. Tess not able to grab the contestants this year! She'll hold a long stick mike ( with a glitter ball on the end Grin ) like Tom Allen on Extra Slice and keep poking them with it!

Rhine · 18/10/2020 09:30

Maisie has very pushy, obnoxious stage mother who has been lobbying for her daughter to get on Strictly for a while. The mother is a fucking embarrassment, constantly turning up in her daughters TikTok videos bopping away like an drunk auntie at a wedding reception. I fully expect her to shoehorn herself into Maisie’s Strictly experience, as it’s obvious she’s living her own dreams through her daughter.

Fridgeandkitchen · 18/10/2020 09:30

MoonJelly, so he did! I’d completely forgotten.

Figgygal · 18/10/2020 09:31

watched it
Enjoyed it

Some of the pairings were totally predictable - Anton, Oti, we all knew about Katya

Poor old max did look ever so terrified

Actually liked HRVY he seems nice
Don’t think Maisie should be there after winning children in need special
Liked Jason but never taken to Lubya so will see

All the new hair colour was confusing me

Roll on next Saturday

Besom · 18/10/2020 09:42

I'm so happy to see strictly this year! Can't wait.

Bill is obviously extremely musical and he seems like the type who will work hard and he's popular so could go quite far.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2020 09:48

He got to the finals last year. They tend to put finalists in with duffers the following year, either to give them a rest or give the other pros a chance.

That's not the case with Anton though. He generally gets the job of guiding a Duffer (and he tends to do it well I think!)

SoupDragon · 18/10/2020 09:50

With the axing of pros, are they using the "axed" ones to do the pro dances that go with the live perform are on the night? None of the ones with a celebrity partner Can do it because of the bubbles. I got the Impression that these dances are filmed separately to the group pro dances.

This is one of my favourite things about strictly Blush I love his commentary.

Didn't realise Ola was pregnant again?

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/10/2020 09:57

Just been looking at his commentary and see he's said about Neil helping Katya with the choreography.. will that even be allowed this year what with the bubbles?

therarebear · 18/10/2020 10:03

I felt like a weight was lifted not having to watch/listen to Bruno.

CaveMum · 18/10/2020 10:04

I honestly think the reason they give Anton the older ladies is simply because he’s a good teacher with mountains of patience!

Being a good dancer doesn’t automatically make you a good teacher - look at how many celebs fell out with Brendan while partnered with him! Fact is that the pros are competitive, you can’t make a living as a pro dancer without pushing yourself and your partner bloody hard, and I imagine that spills over a lot into the Strictly training room.

It’s quite obvious that the older celebs are not going to win a series, and I’d take a guess that some of the Pros are resentful of being paired up with them Aliona so they go with the people that they know will actually make it an enjoyable experience. It’s not a coincidence that the same Pros often get paired up same “type” of Celeb!

What I did see of her was more walky than dancing.

Might be a good thing for her to be forced by this into living on her own then?
Sunbird24 · 18/10/2020 10:42

No Vowels I imagine, so HRVY! Weirdly it was a Twitter April Fools thing a couple of years ago that they were going to start charging for the use of vowels... Maybe he thought it was real?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/10/2020 10:46

Is Ola pregnant again? She only had her first baby in February. Couldn't see anything on either of their social media

EvilRingahBitch · 18/10/2020 10:54

I’d reckon that you could help a lot with choreography by Zoom, you don’t necessarily have to be in the same room as each other to design a routine and to suggest moves that both parties already know well which would work within it.

You’d probably need to be together to work on eg a lift which neither party had done before, but with the huge amount of experience that most of the pros have I assume that’s rarely the case - you’re going to be assembling a routine from well defined elements.
