Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Im still not over AJ leaving.

Mrsjayy · 24/06/2020 14:32

I didn't know AJ left Shock. Kevin too I think?

Walkingtheplank · 24/06/2020 15:08

Cheryl?

No No No No No No No No No

No

No

No

Walkingtheplank · 24/06/2020 15:09

Same sex couple?

Wouldn't it be refreshing if same-sex meant 2 women?

GrouchyKiwi · 24/06/2020 15:32

I want Brendan to replace Bruno (please please please no Bruno this year). It would be glorious tension with Shirley.

GrouchyKiwi · 24/06/2020 15:33

I think Karen Hauer would choreograph some fantastic same-sex couple dances so I vote for her and a celeb woman to pair up.

GrouchyKiwi · 24/06/2020 15:34

(I can't remember if she has gone back to using her pre-Kevin name.)

((Sorry for the multiple posts in a row.))

Mrsjayy · 24/06/2020 15:35

Oh you wanting the drama @GrouchyKiwi Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2020 15:37

Yes, my appropriately aged AJ left Sad
Watching him on SCD gets me through winter.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2020 15:38

Agree about no Cheryl though, I'd like James Jordan, he was great when he was on DOI.

ChicCroissant · 24/06/2020 15:39

Kevin left because he had a national tour with a musical coming up - obviously not now, unfortunately, so I wonder if he could be persuaded back?

I though I'd read somewhere that it was likely the first same-sex couple would be female. Ireland did a female couple, I think? Drumming weather man describes himself as an advocate for LGBTQ so may also be interested although being the first same-sex couple would bring a bit of press interest above and beyond even the current standards which not everyone would want.

Standrewsschool · 24/06/2020 21:53

Cheryl is actually a professionally trained dancer.

Love Ian Waite to do it though.

IntermittentParps · 24/06/2020 22:02

I’d love Karen Hardy or Ian. Cheryl isn’t right, trained dancer or not.

Len does DWTS I think, so wouldn’t be able to do Strictly too.

I like the idea of an audience at cabaret-style tables. Strictly with no audience at all would feel too weird.

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/06/2020 15:24

Len does DWTS I think, so wouldn’t be able to do Strictly too.

Doesn't he generally live in the U.K. most of the time though? Maybe he won't want to risk flying out to the US if this situation hasn't blown over by then..

I wouldn't mind Len coming back for a series.

IntermittentParps · 25/06/2020 15:31

Don't know, coveting. I reckon he left because the DWTS money is better, so maybe it depends on what he prioritises.
I'm not sure they'd have him back for a series. I don't know if it makes either him or Strictly look very good really.

Starksforthewin · 25/06/2020 15:41

Cheryl fucking Cole? No way. She has zero credibility to be a judge on a ballroom dancing show.
Contempowaft and pop group routines maybe!

They should really up the rigour on the panel with a proper ballroom professional, given Shirley has turned out to be such a disappointment, acting the role of Liverpool fishwife perving over the men!

I am delighted there will be no audience. No fucking out of time clapping or whooping! What will Tess do? Half of her robot pre programmed lines consist of appealing directly to the audience.. 🙄

I’m not in favour of Jamie Laing being given another go. He has no real celebrant he is the most appalling misogynist.

IntermittentParps · 25/06/2020 16:02

I rather enjoy Shirley and her lairy Liverpool fishwife persona Grin

I was thinking that about Tess and the audience too. They'd have to rewrite her scripts, maybe give her some old-school music hall 'take my mother-in-law...' material. I'd quite like to see that.

Are they not still planning on a cabaret-style audience though?

A few more drips of information

Not sure about Maya Jama?

OP posts:
IntermittentParps · 25/06/2020 17:20

WTF is wrong with having someone with, you know, ballroom experience??

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/06/2020 17:54

Matilda Ramsey? My daughter would love her to be on. She likes her cooking programme.

I’d like to see (aiming VERY high) Judi Dench!
She’d give it a good go and enjoy whatever happened.

PuppyMonkey · 25/06/2020 18:27

We’ll be heading into the second wave by September when the weather is colder and we all have to stay inside more, so I reckon the whole thing will be abandoned.Sad

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/06/2020 18:40

Not sure about Maya Jama

I wouldn't mind her as a contestant, I think she'd put the work in.

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2020 18:43

Len was live from his Kent garden on TV the other day so he might not be able to do DWTS!

lynsey91 · 27/06/2020 09:08

Not keen on Maya Jama at all but maybe she would surprise me.

Even less keen on Cheryl. I would be tempted not to watch if she is one of the judges. I thought Alisha Dixon did a useless job but I think Cheryl would be worse

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/06/2020 13:15

What did AJ leave to do? I wonder if he'll regret leaving. He was a bit annoying at times, but I did enjoy his choreography and it seemed better than some of the pros that have been in it for longer..
