Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Sorry - I crossed sunbird’s post saying the same.

Was interrupted mid post by the crow looking for his breakfast.

iklboo · 18/10/2020 11:25

Maisie grated - especially her audition story - but it could be first impressions. We shall see.

I don't think HAAAAAAARVEEEEEEEEEEY sold out Wembley? He looked like he was singing at the Teen Awards? Comes across like a spaniel puppy.

JJ isn't a serving marine anymore after his injuries. He's a Paralympian and sports reporter. He'll have determination at least.

JS likely to go early, even with the support of the Fantons.

Can't predict a possible winner yet though.

Why the recent fixation with Youtubers and now TikTok stars?

SeriesofUnfortunateEvents · 18/10/2020 11:38

SO happy that Strictly – and this thread – are back. Thanks for the reminder to check out Monkseal and James Jordan. I enjoyed this launch more than any of the other launch shows. 12 is a good number – the normal 16 or so they have I find too many to get my head around. For once there isn’t anyone who particularly gets on my nerves 😊 I thought they handled the explanations about Covid changes really well. So glad Neil Jones doesn’t have a partner – his gurning is always very irritating. He thinks he’s funny and he just isn’t.

Max and Dianne – great partnership. Love her. They will do well. Did not know he was with Ryan Giggs’ ex wife.

Jason and Luba – he’s very smiley and easy on the eye. Looks to be a good mover. Glad she has a good partner. Did not know he was Nadine Coyle’s ex.

Nicola and Katya. LOVE Nicola’s smile. Great partnership. Katya’s choreography is always so interesting.

JJ and Amy – love Amy. James Jordan called her “the sweetest pro”. JJ seems fun.

Clara and Aljaz – love both of these. Fear she may not do well as Radio 1 DJs – apart from Scott Mills – tend not to do well on Strictly as Radio 1 is such a different audience demographic. However Aljaz’s popularity will help her.

Hrvy and Jeanette – love Jeanette and her comment that she wasn’t going to miss Aljaz. Hrvy is another Saffron who will have a good run because of his huge numbers of followers. Amazed that he filled Wembley.

Jacqui Smith and Anton – quite like her. She’ll probably go early but his popularity could help her to stay longer.

Caroline Quentin and Johannes – I like her and have always found her funny in interviews but her chat with Tess was quite dull. Hopefully she’ll relax and show her more amusing side. She’s very lucky to have the wonderful Johannes.

Jamie and Karen – he’s very endearing. Karen is always good at getting on well with her pros and getting the most out of them. I wonder why he wasn’t with Oti this year?

Bill and Oti – must admit I don’t find Bill funny. He’s musical so will have good rhythm. Love Oti.

Ranvia and Giovanni – she seems fun. Looks like they’ll get on.

Eastenders girl and Gorka – obviously a ringah. Shame about Gorka’s going blond – he is so good looking with dark hair.

Annoying that so much is made of Caroline and Jacqui being of a certain age but I didn’t hear any reference to Bill’s age.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 18/10/2020 11:41

I fear I may not warm to Maisie. I smell a bit lot of ringyness. I do love seeing confidence (am one of life’s shadow people) but it is a fine line between oozing confidence and being Charlie big bananas. (Or Maisie big puffa)

I didn’t take to AB for this reason. I saw the beauty of her dancing but felt the precise sum of nowt. Apart from annoyance.

It is a shame.

I would rather watch someone who tries hard and can make me laugh or cry. I would prefer to see imperfection and feel emotion than see perfection and feel irritated.

SeriesofUnfortunateEvents · 18/10/2020 11:47

From the Guardian blog: "Before they entered the hotel, all the pros quarantined for two weeks and had two Covid tests.

No wonder you couldn’t get a test a few weeks ago, Strictly had bagged the lot." Smile

Foliageeverywhere122 · 18/10/2020 11:48

So what are the bubbling rules??

Jamie aka BVB is still very much living with his gf, methinks he’ll struggle to not go on nights out if his behaviour over the last 6 months is anything to go by!

iklboo · 18/10/2020 11:50

I also think Kitty was poisoned, maybe she accidently drank something toxic while playing hide and seek.

And every two minutes from Tess last night. Mind, you'll still get some berks complaining about them not socially distancing Hmm

Artforartssake · 18/10/2020 12:06

Annoying that so much is made of Caroline and Jacqui being of a certain age but I didn’t hear any reference to Bill’s age.

^^ That's so true! That aside, I like Bill and Caroline and hope they'll do well. Agree with everyone that Jacqui may not last long sadly just looking at the opening dance.

Haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if this has been asked before, but does the first candidate leave next week or the week after? Must be horrible being the first to go.

Redcrayons · 18/10/2020 12:06

So what are the bubbling rules

Let’s just pretend they’re all living together in a big old house and breaking into coordinated song and dance routines all day.

MabelChiltern1 · 18/10/2020 12:12

Why does Giovanni keep getting middle aged women? I want him to win... should have won with Faye... they were fantastic.

Artforartssake · 18/10/2020 12:26

Totally agree about Faye and Gio. Their theatre-jazz dance to 'Fever' is my all time favourite Strictly dance.

STILL miss Pasha a lot. Strictly not the same without him.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/10/2020 12:31

@Rhine

Why the recent fixation with Youtubers and now TikTok stars?
To appeal to a younger audience innit

Re Giovanni, he’s had some brilliant partners. Georgia May Foote was a strong contender to win and young. Debbie McGee or Faye - I would have liked either of them to win

Samcro · 18/10/2020 12:46

i can't see mp woman going far. maybe Anton wants out early. I mean who will vote for her?
harveywhocan'tspell is very irritating as is EE girl.
do like BB and boxer.
I hope dj woman does well.

CaveMum · 18/10/2020 12:50

The bubble rules are that you can form a bubble with another single adult household, so at least one half of the partnership has to live alone in order to meet the criteria.

You can only have one support bubble per household so if any of the celebs already have established bubbles with other family members (like elderly parents) then they will have to move out for the duration of the series so that they can bubble with their partner.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 18/10/2020 12:55

BVB?

Poor Caroline Quentin, she looked gorgeous and can clearly move but they did let her talk far too much, she seemed to drone on endlessly.

At the other end of the oratory scale, Nicola should stick to smiling and punching, she seems lovely but seems to run out of steam mid sentence.

I was mesmerised by Motsi’s skin, just beautiful.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when the pros are told who their partners are. I bet there’s a lot of “Who?” “Your guess is as good as mine” etc going on. Grin

WittyFunnyUsername · 18/10/2020 13:20

@Bool

I think it’s a bit harsh that people saying that Maisie is annoying because she is confident. Personally I LOVE seeing confidence in a young woman. Shame more young women are not more confident. C’mon ladies let’s support confident women please!
This! It does make me a bit that Maisie is a gorgeous, confident young woman and therefore hated by mumsnet. Self confidence is a brilliant thing to have, not something to be ashamed of.
WittyFunnyUsername · 18/10/2020 13:22

A bit Hmm that should say.

WittyFunnyUsername · 18/10/2020 13:22

A bit Hmm that should say.

JamminDoughnuts · 18/10/2020 13:24

i also enjoyed this launch very much, we got to know them a bit more i feel

JamminDoughnuts · 18/10/2020 13:26

i think Hvry supported a band at Wembly

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2020 13:27

I know nothing about dance or different techniques , but I've a feeling that Maisie will be better at the samba or the jive , the more high energy dances and not as good at ballroom or the rumba. Only based on her personality.
I agree she is very confident and people don't like to see this. It may work against her.

JamminDoughnuts · 18/10/2020 13:33

Their theatre-jazz dance to 'Fever' is my all time favourite Strictly dance.
who won it that year?
i saw this dance the other week when the were showing Best of,.. it was so good

woodhill · 18/10/2020 13:35

@JamminDoughnuts

i think Hvry supported a band at Wembly
He didn't mention that part😊
YellowEllis · 18/10/2020 13:38

Max George is bloody gorgeous and for some reason the Manc accent on him is just divine Grin
