Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

I think AJ was going to do something with his brother, as they seemed to do quite a few things together especially as he's better known after love island and the greatest dancer in the last year. But I wonder whether those plans have been shelved and he's regretting it. I really hope Michael and jovita who won the greatest dancer will join, they seem to be good friends with loads of the pros already. I hope gorka gets a partner this time round. Also I was thinking the pros who don't live in the UK might not want to come here from their home counties either.

ChicCroissant · 28/06/2020 22:58

I think AJ and his brother planned to take on the world as TV presenters (or possibly the jungle). Regardless of whether I like them or not, I do feel for anyone who left a role for something that hasn't come off this year, not just in Strictly! It has affected a lot of people.

I think I read somewhere that they might drop down to just 3 judges if Bruno can't do both series (does Joanna Leunis live in London, she'd be good too).

^ I wouldn't mind this to be honest.

Patch23042 · 28/06/2020 23:34

Cheryl Cole??? Good grief.

I’m glad it’s going ahead, albeit without the public. If football can, so can SCD. Regular testing, hand washing, avoiding crowds ....common sense.

IntermittentParps · 01/07/2020 12:08

Strictly with no audience would have no atmosphere.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/07/2020 06:41

Just bumping up this thread..

isn't it usually around now that the first reveals start happening? I had a quick look but can't see any more details on this series.

Do we think it's definitely going to go ahead?

NellePorter · 17/07/2020 07:49

I don't mind Cheryl, but I don't think she's right for the Strictly panel. I also think it would be weird without an audience. Hope it can go ahead though!

tellymix.co.uk/reality-tv/strictly-come-dancing/428187-strictly-come-dancing-2020-line-up-celebrities-contestants.html

Found this.. I wouldn't mind this if it was close to the actual line up.

I'd really like Jamie Laing to have another go.

I'm hoping Joe Wickes will be on the line up though.

Katie Price is also strongly rumoured, but I think that will probably go out of the window with Harvey being so ill at the moment.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 17/07/2020 20:03

Cheryl Cole definitely danced when she was a child - she did classical sequence. I think it was quite a while ago though!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 17/07/2020 20:06

@Walkingtheplank

Same sex couple?

Wouldn't it be refreshing if same-sex meant 2 women?

In ballroom? Not really. Grin

There are all girls/ladies categories at pretty much every competition you go to.

Although on the telly, I do see your point. Girl/girl couples would be much nicer to watch than male/male - twice the amount of pretty dresses, and Latin looks completely different because there's a lot of side by side work designed to match exactly.

xsquared · 17/07/2020 20:38

Please, not Cheryl for the panel.

Is there any news at all about Strictly this year? I can only see "Best of" type things on their Facebook page.

I don't think there's been anything official, no. I think it's just been rumours and pros talking about what they think will happen.

Sad makes me wonder if they are still debating whether it will even go ahead.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 17/07/2020 23:21

This was on the BBC news website today re performance restrictions:

This latest announcement will now see venues move to stage four of the government's "five-stage roadmap for the return of professional performing arts", which was recently outlined by Mr Dowden as follows:

Stage One - Rehearsal and training (no audiences and adhering to social distancing guidelines)
Stage Two - Performances for broadcast and recording purposes (adhering to social distancing guidelines)
Stage Three - Performances outdoors with an audience plus pilots for indoor performances with a limited distance audience
Stage Four - Performances allowed indoors/outdoors (but with a limited distanced audience indoors)
Stage Five - Performances allowed indoors/outdoors (with a fuller audience indoors)

Patch23042 · 18/07/2020 07:29

Looks like there could be an audience of sorts then.

Walkingtheplank · 18/07/2020 19:55

That's a shame.
I was looking forward to listening to the music rather than a bunch of idiots clapping out of time.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/07/2020 13:12

There might also be something to fill in the time after Christmas www.strictlynhs.co.uk, it sounds like they're going to post a lot on social media etc.

I don't suppose any Mumsnetters fancy applying? Grin

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/07/2020 14:47

Seems to be a bit more news filtering through now about pro's isolating and bubbles..

Anyone heard when the celeb announcements will be yet?

GrouchyKiwi · 23/07/2020 14:59

I've not heard anything. not marking place, no no

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/07/2020 16:20

I wonder if the whole isolating / bubble thing means they will end up with more single participants this year..

For example, I'd love Joe Wickes to take part this year, but I don't think it's likely that he would want to isolate away from his young family.

Can I throw Paul Mescal into the mix as a dream candidate for this year?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/07/2020 17:46

I think as wondering whether we might get any West End people, since all the theatres are closed.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/07/2020 19:28

Sports people too? With the olympics off the cards for this summer. Not sure what else is up and running.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/07/2020 19:22

Of course - social distancing might mean we are spared those really cringingly awful VTs . . . .

Sliver lining and all that.

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/07/2020 19:48

Could I throw Angela Scanlon into the mix for a contestant... i think she'd be fab. She works on BBC shows too so might be in with a chance..

BaconAndAvocado · 26/07/2020 21:07

Karen Hardy or Ian Waite would be brilliant!

Anton......please God no! I can't stand him! So smug and really not that funny at all.

Cheryl Cole??? Just no.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/07/2020 13:13

It will be difficult to have anybody who teaches a lot I think.

It isn't really a sport that lends itself to social distancing!
