Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Wow, first two signings are Bill Bailey and Caroline Quentin! Glitterball

Clawdy · 29/08/2020 08:02

That's a good start!

KitchenDancefloor · 29/08/2020 10:36

Caroline Quentin is an excellent signing, she used to be a ballet dancer I think. Competent but hopefully not as much of a ringer as previous celebs who came fresh from the west end.

I hope Bill Bailey takes it seriously enough that he actually dances but not so much that he disappears up his own bum (I'm still disappointed that Danny John Jules was so horrible).

ppeatfruit · 29/08/2020 11:53

Hello everyone (all my muckers and would be stars!!!!!) sooo pleased there's a thread about Strictly. Thanks mrsmcgregor I've been off line for a bit, really hoping for Strictly this autumn.

I reckon the BEEB is enjoying keeping us guessing!! Though the lack of audience would be great, all that hysteria gets on my wick. I don't mind the clapping though!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 29/08/2020 17:09

I think I might quite like having fewer celebs! I suppose they might not be quite as good by the final, but those first few weeks when the show lasts nearly three hours can be a bit much. And hopefully I can learn who they all are a bit faster (although if CQ and BB are true, I'm off to a good start this year Glitterball).

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/08/2020 20:37

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams you make w good point about the weeks, I agree, it may end up being a better series.

And wow if those first two signings are anything to go by I'm excited for this series! I hope they are confirmed!

TheDrsDocMartens · 29/08/2020 21:10

Bill bailey in sequins etc will be great!

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/08/2020 21:22

My DH has just raised a good point.. with the shorter number of weeks.. is it just going to be every week is a 'special' Grin
As it seemed with the previous series, every other week seemed to be a special.. movie, musical, halloween..

KitchenDancefloor · 29/08/2020 21:59

PLEASE can we do away with Halloween. I don't think I can take another monster mash.

ChoccyJules · 29/08/2020 22:32

Is this Bill Bailey the comedian/musician? I think he‘ll know he‘s one of the oldies but will try his best, he doesn’t seem the arrogant type.

He will probably have good musicality at least!

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/08/2020 22:57

Can someone explain the quarentine to me? I know the dancers are all isolating in a mansion together for 14 days.. but then will the celebs then have to isolate with them for the remainder of the show / training time.

There's also going to be no group dances, so I wonder what they will use for filler.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/08/2020 22:57

Is there still going to be an It Takes Two!? Shock

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2020 09:00

Perhaps they'll show the old GOOD group dances as fillers, there must be a large number of those.

I was thinking that they might just have a show consisting only of good old dances. that would be great IMO.

There are plenty of dances that would be great to see again.

Lurleene · 30/08/2020 09:19

I have read that the dancers are isolating in the hotel so they can pre record this year's group dances for the series.

nosswith · 30/08/2020 09:38

So much is emotionally invested by so many in Strictly each autumn, that even without some of the normal things I think it should go ahead. If nothing else it will stop there being more repeats of Mrs Browns Boys and reduce the audience for any of Simon Cowell's rubbish.

ChicCroissant · 30/08/2020 12:16

I think there are going to be some 'best of' filler programmes in September, Claudia and Tess were photographed in a hotel room doing that I think - but I suspect it will be based around the contestants rather than the group dances and the themes, eg halloween/film/Blackpool.

The early group dances were choreographed by the dancers themselves I think, they just did bits of their own routines during their solo parts!

ChicCroissant · 30/08/2020 12:17

Just to add I liked that format better than the big choreographed numbers! In the early series, each couple did either one latin or one ballroom dance and it was the same dance (so all ballroom did waltz for example) which made it easier to see the differences between the couples and the group or visiting professional demo was the dance coming up next week. Good times.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/08/2020 12:42

I'd love to see some of the pro routines from probably series 3-7/8 again (or at least ones choreographed in the same style). Those are the ones I remember enjoying the most, things like these:

, which I remember being called gimmicky at the time! , which I still think is amazing — it's just so in sync but looks easy as the same time.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/08/2020 20:13

Announcements on the One Show tomorrow apparently.

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2020 08:57

I agree about Simon Cowell's rubbish nosmith. Why he thinks that the same old hysterical formula will work , each time I don't know.

Also I can't stand Mrs B's boys, it makes me sick. ( or used to when I watched it at the beginning, I can't even have it on).

Can't wait for the One Show tonight Grin thanks Polka Yaaay!!!

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/08/2020 11:30

Looks like The One Show isn't on tonight, presumably because of the bank holiday. Sad

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/08/2020 12:07

Oh, sorry. Sad

That's my fault for assuming — I'd read that they'll announce at the end of the month and on the One Show, so combined the two bits of information without realising that it wasn't on tonight.

awaynboilyurheid · 31/08/2020 17:48

polkadots thanks for that, great to see some "old faces" Just loved watching Flavia and Vincent and James and Ola what great dancers they were and v little gimmicks. Looking forward to seeing the line up in this unusual year.

FuzzyPuffling · 31/08/2020 20:24

Hello me old mateys!
Oooh to Bill Bailey. I like him.
