They said the wife was from 'down south'.

He only found out about the murder after she had suggested the name Neve.

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/03/2020 20:47

It could be plausible that it's Emily's (?) sister who was murdered BUT that would only put it as 7 years ago in the shows timeline, I would assume they'd been together at least a few years. Surely he would know that her sister was murdered whilst pregnant and have put two and two together?

I think 7 years is right if Kaya is 18 now and murdered them at age 11?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2020 22:52

I assumed couple been together for years but maybe met just after the murder so never met sister

Really enjoyed episode 2! Wish I didn't have to wait so long until the next one

Kingoftheroad · 01/04/2020 00:19

The only authentic Glasgow accents are Martin Compston, his sister and David Hayman. The surrogates accent is east coast and way off. The journalist who is from Lewis has a Glasgow accent not a Lewis accent. I also find the accents/grammar and dialect very dumbed down

MargotLovedTom1 · 01/04/2020 00:31

Martin Compston must be some sort of accent wizard. All those wordy scenes in Line of Duty and he never once lets his real accent come through.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 01/04/2020 08:05

DH and I have been watching Line of Duty together during lockdown (I've seen it before: he hasn't) and he was amazed by Steve Arnott's accent when I told him that he was played by the same actor as the guy in The Nest, and that he was using his own accent in the latter!

I love the fact that he now lives in Las Vegas - I wonder how they find his accent there?

IntermittentParps · 01/04/2020 10:00

I'd say the surrogate was more central Scotland than east coast. Certainly not Glasgow though. Kaya's neighbour who was dumped in the Clyde is DEFINITELY an authentic Glaswegian and has quite a ned accent.

MissEliza · 01/04/2020 12:07

I agree the actor playing the journalist could have made more effort with her accent. The accents of people from the Islands are distinct and beautiful.

anonname · 01/04/2020 12:45

Surrogate sounds very like my cousin - who was born and raised in Falkirk ... doesn’t sound weegie at all . And certainly not someone who’s supposedly from Lewis either !!

Fantastic programme though, was the first time in weeks I hadn’t thought about Coronavirus for an hour .

Dieu · 01/04/2020 14:18

I'm really enjoying it. If Kaya really was from Possilpark, you English viewers wouldn't understand a word Grin
Love how the wee brother's accent is much stronger than his older brother's Hmm
Grin at the poster who said the house is unsuitable for children. Wouldn't be my first thought, I must admit.

SamSeabornforPresident · 01/04/2020 16:10

But Kaya is presumably from Lewis. Although I imagine her accent changed a bit in prison.

anonname · 01/04/2020 16:12

Quite possibly, if she was in Cornton Vale/Polmont ! I may be over thinking this ...

Dieu · 01/04/2020 16:28

True.

SamSeabornforPresident · 01/04/2020 17:46

That was my thoughts too but couldn't remember the name of the women's prison. I doubt very much they went into that much detail though!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2020 18:30

Rewatched without mn or toddler In background

I did miss a lot - obv shouldn’t multitask 😂

So surrogate was neeve who killed A lady when she 11 who was preg

We assume baby died

But might be the child The sw had

The older man is the lawyer not dad /grandad to be

The nephew kissed the teenage surrogate

Sorry I’m rubbish with names

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/04/2020 21:02

Hang on! Do I need to rewatch? I thought neve was the name of the lady she killed

ChubbyPigeon · 01/04/2020 22:45

Neve was the name of the woman killed. The video of her mum talking about it was called "mother of Neve Mcgills murderer"

Surely he would know if his wife's sister was murdered on the isle of Lewis when pregnant? Or her sisters name at least? The wife is English. Also if the journalist recognised Kaya surely the wife would?

I'm really enjoying it?

ChubbyPigeon · 01/04/2020 22:46

Also I thought when he told his sister he said the the woman and the baby were both killed.

2Rebecca · 01/04/2020 23:03

I thought Neve was the murderer and it was just dodgy punctuation as in "mother of Neve Mcsomething, murderer"

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/04/2020 08:12

It makes sense that it would be the name of the Woman she killed, The tattoo combined with it being her necklace she wears she’s clearly obsessed with her and that’s what makes her unhinged.
Really don’t think it’s a relation of the couple.

IntermittentParps · 02/04/2020 10:19

But Kaya is presumably from Lewis. Although I imagine her accent changed a bit in prison.

A West Coast islands accent probably wouldn't shift to sound like her central belt accent even if it changed due to being in prison or whatever. They're very different from one another.

JediJim · 04/04/2020 22:37

I recognise the Dans sister Hilary- She played a sergeant in Soldier Soldier.

Figgygal · 04/04/2020 22:39

I can’t believe I almost deleted these and wasn’t going to bother
Really enjoying it now

The social worker guy was in the victim with Kelly Macdonald last year he was really good in that
