Starts tonight. Looks good

When two sides of Glasgow collide when a teenage girl makes a pack with a wealthy couple

Dan and Emily live in a stunning house by the edge of a lake and have everything they ever dreamed of

Apart from a child

Years of struggling and many failed ivf

Kaya has no money or job but offers to be their surrogate

It’s quickly becomes apparent that the baby pact has a destructive effect .......

Sorry can someone tell me how (if) Dan was linked to doddies murder?

netflixandsleep1 · 15/04/2020 08:38

@Abreadsandwich No it was Kaya's social worker. He gave his address to somebody and it was passed along resulting in his murder

EarringsandLipstick · 15/04/2020 08:46

But I don’t get the references to Mary Bell. That was a completely different set of circumstances wasn’t it? This was an accidental killing but the Mary bell one was horrific for her and everyone.

Yes, Danger but no-one was told that this killing was accidental. Kaya's mum put it forward as Kaya murdering Neve, never saying what happened, the row, Kaya trying time take the knife etc.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/04/2020 08:52

Blonde

Usually stay in till 7lbs or due date - which was 15w so almost 4mths Time

Yes, but we don't know when she came out. It possibly was this - as she was still in hospital until we saw the court case.

I'm sure you're right about the level of detail for a premature baby but it didn't come across, overall, as unrealistic to me, in that it didn't affect the dramatic narrative. I wouldn't say 'crap researching'

I thought it was a really well-acted series, no-one over-did it, lots of moral complexity. For me SH was really good as she was so creepy! I've really only seen her in Bridget Jones tho. I do agree about her voice!

lynsey91 · 15/04/2020 08:53

Kaya may have killed her Aunt accidentally but she wasn't a very nice person was she? Breaking a bottle to go after that girl! Also had a bad and lazy attitude. I didn't feel sorry for her in the slightest.

The actress who played her mother is terrible. She can't act to save her life, she mumbles and you can hardly understand or hear her. She was annoying enough in Harry Potter but at least in that she was meant to sound like she does. God knows how she gets parts

Abreadsandwich · 15/04/2020 08:59

@AbreadsandwichNo it was Kaya's social worker. He gave his address to somebody and it was passed along resulting in his murder

Thank you this is what I thought but a few things made me doubt it....like when Dan's (business partner/lawyer??) asked him about it and he said he had sent security round, and then he called security to check what they told police.....

Doboopedoo · 15/04/2020 09:06

I think several years in the care system, including secure care, and the trauma she had suffered, along with being rehoused with no connections or security beyond her social worker, and the fear of having my identity discovered, would make me ‘not a very nice person’ too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/04/2020 09:21

I think rubbish research. Or maybe sloppy

Ivf egg transfer positions , let alone drugs needed for a fet

PREM baby of 25w. No tubes. Let alone size

Wouldn’t be allowed to be held and even once allowed to be held would be suited and booted in blue gowns hats etx To prevent infection

The 6mth baby at end would be 2-3mth adjusted age and def not sitting up if born at 25w

Small things. But annoying

Tho most wouldn’t know about ivf if never had and same worn prem babies - i work with them at times as a maternity nurse

I thought the baby was ridiculous, it looked like a full term baby. (Which is understandable as I cant imagine it being allowable/ethical to use a very preemie baby for tv) I thought a 25 week prem baby would have translucent skin, and probably fit in one hand, and without meaning to be horrible, wouldn't have the "cute" chubby look of a full term baby. Even if they had said it was 8 weeks early that would have been more feasible. And Kaya seemed to recover very quickly from the c section.

Papergirl1968 · 15/04/2020 10:23

Thanks, everyone, for the explanations! I missed half of the dialogue because of the accents. Sorry, Glaswegians.
Cute as the “premature” baby was, I think it would have been more realistic to use a model.

Propergator · 15/04/2020 10:25

Abreadsandwich they could have had a very convincing doll made I’m sure. Some of those scary baby born things look pretty real and would have been more convincing than the gorgeous but very unprem looking baby they chose. At 32 weeks DGD was minute and had stick like legs and arms and a flat little bum and a face like a sweet little frog. She was in excellent condition and only needed help with feeding and growing but she still looked uncooked and very fragile. Some of the babies in NICU were the same gestation as baby Neeve and they were all ventilated and unable to leave their incubators. It’s so easy to get these things right. It’s not exactly a challenging piece of research. One visit to a NICU and a chat with a nurse or doctor would have sorted it. No excuse.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2020 10:26

I think more time passed between the court case and the end shots - Kaya's hair was shorter. The baby wasn't sitting up unaided at the end, Dan was holding her.

They are never going to be able to show a premature baby accurately though.

Propergator · 15/04/2020 10:28

And I agree about sitting up at 6 months.

RJnomore1 · 15/04/2020 11:25

I’m pretty sure when the baby was 48 hours old they said she had taken 10ml from her bottle. This gave me the rage. I agree the preemie bit was poorly done and a model and one conversation would have cleared up much of the bits that were totally wrong. Otherwise o thought very good series, but twee with everyone getting their happy ending 🤷🏻‍♀️

Vintagehearts · 15/04/2020 12:59

Wouldn't they be able to sue the clinic for using the wrong embryo? Or am I being a bit thick? 😁

Vintagehearts · 15/04/2020 13:00

Also I was convinced she was going to jump off the roof at the end for some reason..

Papergirl1968 · 15/04/2020 13:51

Me too!

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/04/2020 14:46

I thought more that Kaya was looking out into the future and was excited about her new life.

MrsJoshNavidi · 15/04/2020 14:51

I also thought she was going to jump. Not convinced she didn't.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 15/04/2020 15:22

Wouldn't they be able to sue the clinic for using the wrong embryo? Or am I being a bit thick?

Didn't it show Emily frustratingly ringing the clinics and seeming not to get anywhere?

Ginger1982 · 15/04/2020 15:47

"I also thought she was going to jump. Not convinced she didn't."

There's no way she jumped. She said she wanted a life and be a business woman.

MrsJoshNavidi · 15/04/2020 16:39

She might have said that just to get the SW off her back though.

Abreadsandwich · 15/04/2020 16:50

Sorry to go back to it again but still confused why both Dan and Kaya seemed to have flashbacks of Doddie drowning, when neither of them seemed to have anything to do with it?

Flowersforpowers · 15/04/2020 16:58

On sueing the clinic/finding the baby. The point was, not only did they have to go to Ukraine but to a very dodgy clinic. As UK services had not allowed the surrogacy no halfway decent clinic would accept them. The world of international surrogacy is murky at best, criminal human trafficking at worst, and they wouldn't have a hope in hell of following up. A clinic like that wouldn't think twice about using a different embryo if there was a problem with theirs. That was one of the more realistic aspects to me!

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/04/2020 17:23

After going through all that and having been given a chance to make a life for herself, why would Kaya be suicidal? I think she was just looking out over the rooftops in anticipation.
