I found the male social worker a really wooden actor to be honest. I thought he was the worst in it!

The actress who played the cop always irritates me too. She was in Game of Thrones and irritated me in that too!

fishonabicycle · 14/04/2020 17:17

Oh yes! She was some sort of Evil Nun! I wondered where I recognized her from.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/04/2020 17:24

No, she played Catelyn's sister who breastfed her son of about 8 or 9!

Dieu · 14/04/2020 17:38

I loved last night's episode, and the way it panned out at the end. I'm glad Kaya got to have her fresh start, and that the baby went to Dan and Emily. Emily is a good person, I think.
Kaya definitely wasn't going to jump. She had come a long way since last being on a rooftop, and meeting Doddy.
I did wonder what became of Dan's brother-in-law.
I am as Scottish a person as you could meet - and from Glasgow originally - but even I had the subtitles on for Kaya's mother. That breathy voice, and the slithering around like Gollum. She did ma heid in! Wink

DorsetCamping · 14/04/2020 18:27

Sorry if this has already been discussed but in the scene where Kaya stabs her aunt, doesn't she (older Kaya) make reference to a younger brother 'Angus'? Something about Niamh taking him away?

Wondered if that would be explored in a potential 2nd series

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/04/2020 18:38

I thought Angus was her mums husband- possibly her dad- that her aunt Neve was basically knocked up by.

BizarreBizarre · 14/04/2020 18:40

Off subject but I thought Kaya was a lovely looking young woman

DorsetCamping · 14/04/2020 18:44

Ah thanks @OnlyFoolsnMothers that makes more sense

MadamBatty · 14/04/2020 18:48

just watched it, am i only one who worried about baby gracie/niamh beside all that water?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/04/2020 18:54

They looked to have moved from that house at the end @MadamBatty

MadamBatty · 14/04/2020 19:08

@QueenOfTheAndals. thanks for that...silly i know but it’d be a nightmare

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 14/04/2020 19:12

Oh no OP I thought the stabbing was totally the mum's fault

She was brandishing the knife and Kaya intervened and stabbed her aunt accidentally (which will be why it was CH not murder). And the mother never spoke up to say she had the knife first

Ginger1982 · 14/04/2020 19:22

"She was brandishing the knife and Kaya intervened and stabbed her aunt accidentally (which will be why it was CH not murder). And the mother never spoke up to say she had the knife first"

I wouldn't have even said it was CH. But then if the aunt was obviously dead and the mum wouldn't help Kaya then how was an 11 year old expected to try and express what happened?

2Rebecca · 14/04/2020 19:49

11 isn't that young. That bit didnt make sense. If there is a series 2 I wont watch it as subsequent series nearly always disappoint and I lose faith in them ending it properly. It's OK if it's a series where you start with a new plot like Line of Duty or death in Paradise. I've given up with killing Eve but never liked the Eve character although loved Villeneuve but didn't get her obsession with the bland Eve

Doboopedoo · 14/04/2020 21:52

Question - the baby was granted the residency order to dan and Emily when she was 6 months old, but a few scenes before that they said she would be discharged in 2-3 weeks, so where was the baby in between that time? With Kaya or in care?
I agree that Mirren Mack was great in a lot of it, but there were a lot of parts that were shoehorned in unnecessarily. Glasgow looked amazing too.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2020 22:02

I imagine she was in foster care,

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2020 22:30

Born at 25w I would have expected grace to be in scbu for many weeks

Usually stay in till 7lbs or due date - which was 15w so almost 4mths Time

Grace in hospital looked like a full term newborn - silly

Again crap researching

Abreadsandwich · 14/04/2020 22:36

My DD (teen) thought they wanted to call the baby "Greasy" 😂😂

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 14/04/2020 22:52

I only had sympathy for Kaya - all the other characters were horrible and I abhor surrogacy so really wanted the baby to not go to Dan and Emily but to a worthy adoptive couple.

Rayagoldensun · 14/04/2020 23:27

Definitely an unbelievable NICU setting in every way. DGD at 32 weeks was far tinier looking than Gracie/Niamh at 25 weeks. There was nothing other than a feeding tube in sight - no monitors, no ventilator- which would be incredibly unlikely. At that gestation she wouldn’t have been out the incubator I don’t think. Surely such research would have been so easy to get right. .

Papergirl1968 · 15/04/2020 00:41

Just caught up on the final episode.
So glad I stuck with it because I was underwhelmed by the first episode.
Blimey.
Yes, SH very annoying as usual.
Kiar has an interesting face rather than a typically pretty one, I think. Great acting.
I thought the stabbing was odd. I couldn’t really see how it happened. Young Kiar was in the middle of them, got the knife off her mum, swung around and managed to stab the aunt so severely that both she and her baby died? And when did - or rather how could - the aunt give her the necklace to say she was forgiven if she’d died?
And finally, a really stupid question Blush - so who did kill Doddie?

Papergirl1968 · 15/04/2020 00:48

Kaya not Kiar, sorry

DangerCat01 · 15/04/2020 01:51

I think the Kaya actor was incredible and portrayed moments of beauty through her character. So clever.

But I don’t get the references to Mary Bell. That was a completely different set of circumstances wasn’t it? This was an accidental killing but the Mary bell one was horrific for her and everyone.

Ginger1982 · 15/04/2020 06:44

@Papergirl1968 I think Kaya's mum gave her the necklace to make her feel bad to be honest! And the crime family killed Doddy after the social worker told them where he lived.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2020 08:07

I thought the stabbing was odd. I couldn’t really see how it happened. Young Kiar was in the middle of them, got the knife off her mum, swung around and managed to stab the aunt so severely that both she and her baby died?

I think it was a combination of her turning round with the knife in her hand and the aunt lunging forwards. With only her and her mother as witnesses, I think it was not an obvious accident, her mother didn't tell the truth and Kaya was probably too young/traumatised to remember details beyond "I stabbed her".
