"Neve was Kaya's aunt, her mum's sister. This was unbelievable as in the first video of the mum she was described as "the mother of Neve's murderer" not "Neve's sister" and on Lewis they would have known the relationship so journalist from Lewis would have known. That aspect of it was very silly"

But if she had been interviewed as 'Neve's sister' and talked about what her daughter did then people might have been able to identify who her daughter was. Though with that creepy voice surely anyone who heard her would have known! 😀

I thought the last two episodes were really disappointing, Moaning Myrtle just irritated and distracted me every time she was on screen.

hopeishere · 14/04/2020 08:17

Agree Moaning Myrtle was awful. I just felt there were too many "shoehorn" bits

  • corrupt social worker
  • mysterious references to his wife
  • the ecstasy bit
  • the sister giving Emily a piece of her mind
  • Dan's business origin bring corrupt

None of that added anything to the story.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/04/2020 08:23

*- corrupt social worker

  • mysterious references to his wife*

There wasn't any ending to that but was there? We never found who his wife was or who the girl was?

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/04/2020 08:25

I think there will possibly be a pt.2, there's enough to go on for another 5 episodes.

The clinic could get in touch, the real bio parents could turn up.. Jack and Kaya could get together.. etc etc.

It was all rather far fetched, but I enjoyed it even DH wanted to watch the final episode.

It was better than the last BBC drama I watched which was that Gold digger one.

EarringsandLipstick · 14/04/2020 09:37

I don't agree hope I think it kept us guessing, and also showed the complexity of people's lives. The surprise plot line of the social worker really got to me, the effect on Kaya.
I think the acting was excellent too, especially Kaya (don't know the actor)

I also thought the understated story of the effect of Dan's wealth on his sister & her family's lives was really good.

Really good series.

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2020 10:17

I grew up in Scotstounhill ... I don't think that is Scotstounhill. Might be Scotstoun or Knightswood.

MissEliza · 14/04/2020 10:19

There were some weaknesses but in general it was the best and most satisfying drama I've watched in a long time. The other weak I was almost angry with the ending to Liar as it was so unbelievable.
With the exception of Shirley Henderson, it was a strong cast and the actress who played Kaya did a great job for someone so young. One unsung hero for me was Janice the social worker. I've never see her in anything before but she created such an authentic warm character. Kaya needed a mother figure and Janice tried to be that, bringing her soup etc.

Thesuzle · 14/04/2020 10:20

I struggled with the accents, esp. the male social worker.. no slur on the Scots but i missed a fair bit of dialogue

SoupDragon · 14/04/2020 10:22

I struggled with the accent when Dan was explaining to Emily about the business/drugs. Entirely my own fault as I was crocheting as well and not giving it my full attention!

SoupDragon · 14/04/2020 10:27

Mirren Mack (Kaya) was really good. It was her first leading role too.

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2020 10:28

I have this theory that that is why they always put at least one Sassenach in the main cast! So you lot can understand 50% of it! Wink

SoupDragon · 14/04/2020 10:30

😂😂 probably.

The bits with Dan at the end were there only ones I had trouble with though. I think I only caught about one word in three.

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2020 10:32

Tbh , I was the same . All I heard was drugs!

My biggest issue was the non Lewis accents of all these people supposedly from Lewis who appeared to be mainly Glaswegian (well Shirley H isn't but she certainly isn't from the Western Isles!)

I loved Siobhan Redmond's ferocious cameo at the end!

MissEliza · 14/04/2020 10:40

I'm from Scotland although I've lived outsider longer than I lived there. I just about managed with the accents so good luck to the rest of you!

LizzieMacQueen · 14/04/2020 10:45

The Dan:drugs connection was to the same crime family the SW was involved with. Nicholls?

Something about he took money and in return put a few of the criminals on his companies books/payroll. So basically money laundering.

butterpuffed · 14/04/2020 10:57

I found some of the accents difficult and had to put subtitles on

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2020 11:09

To be fair I did get that bit lizzie. He said he 'washed the money'. And it was the same family. because Glasgow only has one drug overlord. Apparently!

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 14/04/2020 11:50

Turquoise she was found guilty of culpable homicide, not
murder.

The detective, when discovered who she was said something about Scotland's Mary Bell, the youngest person to be found guilty of CH.

burntpinky · 14/04/2020 11:51

I loved it. Blobbing all the way through. Also liked the way it made your empathy with certain characters change as the series progressed. Kaya wasn’t a murderer and just had an awful mother. Felt so sorry for her in the last episode.

I hope there is no series 2. It’s self contained and should be left that way

Turquoisesea · 14/04/2020 12:11

@Seetheprettysnowdrops thanks I missed that bit. I thought it was a really good drama and Kaya in particular was a great actress

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 14/04/2020 13:47

The girl playing Kaya was really good

And the SW who was fabulous in the Victim last year.

Figgygal · 14/04/2020 14:20

I really enjoyed it overall and I’m glad I watched it but it did feel like there was a bit too much going on at times

I’m from Scotland but nowhere near where this took place I didn’t have any trouble with accents

CoolCarrie · 14/04/2020 14:38

Kaya must have had a bloody awful lawyer , and her ‘ mother’ was awful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2020 15:27

Always have subtitles on

So kaya killed her aunty and cousin

She stabbed her So not her mums Fault so she didn’t help the situation

Glad kaya agreed to let dan and EMILY have the baby

Think there will be a s2

They have adopted her yet So need to show that

Clinic needed to sorted out. Why they didn’t fly over with lawyer and translater - esp as so rich

And sue clinic and get their money back that way

My Spanish Ivf clinic assigned same lady to us everything even tho the doc did speak broken English , we had perfect translater
