It was very enjoyable. Everyone did well but Shirley winds me up a bit she always praises the men and is harder on the women sometimes.

I’m a SCD addict and eagerly waited for last night’s show...however I ended up switching off before the end as it was just too long a show I felt. Kelvin was just brilliant, James was dreadful so stiff and wooden like something from a zombie film...Motsi I liked prefer her to Darcey. Anton i think is poor compared to the others his choreography is lacking...not sure why Gorka has been left out perhaps his choice this year. I’ve gone off Kev too.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 13:42

Does anyone else never watch live so you can FF through the training bits? Well not so much the training bits but the few minutes before "I got to join Celeb in their radio programme, here's us taking a selfie, oooh look here's footage from our Insta story holding our phones up high, I really hope Celeb brings that passion to the dahhncefloor"

I always wonder if the pros absolutely hate those bits. They always have to spend the whole day travelling to Blackpool or somewhere for 30 seconds of footage and it's a whole day of training wasted, surely?

iklboo · 22/09/2019 13:48

We do that @ElspethFlashman. Takes about an hour off the show Grin

Figgygal · 22/09/2019 13:54

Just got to James Cracknell poor guy

Figgygal · 22/09/2019 13:54

I also ffwd through s lot of the chat

ConfCall · 22/09/2019 14:30

I always FFwd through the VTs (with the exception of the training bits). I would rather they focused on the training. Or had one of the partnerless dancers (Gorka, Graz) explain briefly re something technical to watch out for in that dance.

I think the judges’ comments and the clauditorium bits are about right in length.

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 14:37

They put the dancing on Twitter and YouTube as soon as the show finishes- no judges, no VTs, no Tess - it's great!

Persea · 22/09/2019 14:40

Blimey, only just realised Gorka isn’t a main dancer this year. I hope that’s his choice given the new baby, as he’s fab.
Great show last night - v impressed with the standard, mainly, bar James!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/09/2019 14:44

I watched the last three dances live because we had a friend over for dinner and then watched the rest of it, which I had recorded, by fast-forwarding through almost everything except the dancing. So it didn't seem all that long to me.

I was really impressed by some of the dancing, usually half of the 'celebs' look very self-conscious and awkward for the first few weeks, but almost all of this lot just threw themselves into it with gusto even if the actual content and technique was a bit lacking.

James to be first out IMO, and I won't be sorry to see him go.

june2007 · 22/09/2019 14:47

I agree it was too long, so got bored, but dancing I though was quite good. James needs to loosen up.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 14:52

Thanks for the new thread Glitterball

GrouchyKiwi · 22/09/2019 14:54

Thanks for new thread!

Just reading about James Cracknell's accident. It's left him with epilepsy and I wonder how easy it is to cope with Strictly from that perspective too.

Ratcatcher9 · 22/09/2019 14:59

Very worried about James Cracknell.

derxa · 22/09/2019 15:06

pm

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 15:12

James Jordan's tweeted that he's caught up with the opening show & says it's the best first show in many years....and
Best performance - Kelvin & Oti
Best dancer - Karim
Best partnership - Saffron & AJ

I agree about being a very good first show, it was very long, but there was a lot of good dances & the music wasn't all bad either which helps (if we don't mention the 3 lions..)

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 15:12

In a way I hope james does a decent dance next week n leaves. He's a gold medallist olympian who's overcome injury, that's what he should be remembered for not SCD.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/09/2019 15:20

I missed last night's show, DH and I were doing a rare bit of socialising. Am also "Abroad" so no catch up unless it's on YouTube.🙁

I'll just lurk and nod sagely as you Glitterbabes impart your wisdom on the performances.

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 15:45

All 15 dances are on YouTube on the official SCD channel

SoupDragon · 22/09/2019 15:59

Surely James Cracknell was are of any limitations as a result of his injury before he signed up?

ChicCroissant · 22/09/2019 16:05

Thanks for the new thread.

I forgot to say - I loved a lot of the dresses on the first night, which hasn't always been the case. Some of the shorter dresses with fringing-type skirts on the professionals looked fab (but they do have killer legs!).

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/09/2019 16:12

@KurriKawari I could KISS you!!Grin

DH, fire up the laptop...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/09/2019 16:16

I enjoyed that, Motsi is fabulous, she's so good I'd forgotten all about Darcey

(From ppeat on the previous thread)

Totally agree - it was very much "Darcey? Who she?" in this house.

I hadn't realised that James Cracknel had suffered a brain injury, poor lad. I feel unkind about comparing him to Lurch. And I agree with a poster from the other thread who said that it probably wasn't appropriate to have him on the show.

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 16:17

SoupDragon yes he probably was, but as a sportsman he probably wanted to push himself - Will also has physical limitations. But neither expect to have the piss taken out of them.

Horsemad · 22/09/2019 16:18

A few of the celebs looked like they could have done with a couple of G&T's to loosen them up imo.
