Late arrival to the Peaky Blinders party

Finally got round to watching this, quite enjoying so far although I struggled with the accents initially.
However Tom Hardy who I usually like is driving me mad, he seems so hammy and channelling his Bronson character mated with the Krays a bit too much.
Does he get better?

NO knocking TH here thank you very much!

stephstrops · 17/08/2019 16:42

I didn’t like him in this either

EvenPhilip · 17/08/2019 16:49

And no, he doesn’t get any better. Peaky Blinders is brill though

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/08/2019 19:27

DD and DH think it is the best programme ever . (For DD though the attraction is Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy)

I have been in the same room (MNetting not watching) and it's all Swearing+Shagging+some nice horses . Couldn't be bothered with trying to fathom the storyline

PuppyMonkey · 17/08/2019 19:31

I got through the first series ok (when it was originally shown on BBC2) but when the second series started, I suddenly realised I absolutely hated it and the whole thing was pants.

I know everyone else seems to love it now, but I think it is a silly programme.Grin

tothesea · 17/08/2019 19:34

By the end of the second series I’d seen enough slow mo teeth being mashed to last me a lifetime so gave up on it!

cushioncovers · 17/08/2019 19:39

I just started watching this a week ago and am on series 2 epi 6. I like it but don't love it. But love CM so will stick with it. Grin but yes Tom Hardy's character is annoying the fudge out of me.

rededucator · 17/08/2019 20:10

CM is the most interesting looking man.

mrssunshinexxx · 18/08/2019 11:44

Yesss op @EvenPhilip stick with it it's fab and series 5 starts a week today !

Samcro · 18/08/2019 11:46

oh TH is brilliant in it

cushioncovers · 18/08/2019 12:44

Just watched the wedding episode where Tommy and Grace get married. Grin

Oblomov19 · 18/08/2019 13:04

I don't like the TH character Alfie either.

cushioncovers · 20/08/2019 07:43

Midway through series 3 now. Bit of an emotional rollercoaster GrinSad

twattymctwatterson · 20/08/2019 08:39

I remember watching and thinking that I didn't know if TH was brilliant or really bad in this. Alfie is an ott character and he hams it up a bit but I ended up loving him

cushioncovers · 20/08/2019 09:26

I'm beginning to warm to Tom Hardys character now.

mrssunshinexxx · 20/08/2019 10:18

Alfie Solomon's is a brilliant character new series on Sunday night and I can't wait

cushioncovers · 21/08/2019 11:03

Just watched the episode where the magic shot John 😱😩 I loved his character.

cushioncovers · 21/08/2019 11:04

Mafia not magic

mrssunshinexxx · 21/08/2019 11:17

@cushioncovers I was literally GUTTED when that happens he was my fave too

cushioncovers · 21/08/2019 11:32

Glad I'm not the only one. I think I get too invested in characters. I feel quite deflated and fed up today. 🤦‍♀️ he was entertaining to watch. Great actor. Think he will be in a lot of stuff in the future.

Didn't realise until I saw some videos on YouTube that the actors who play Michael and John are actually brothers irl.

mrssunshinexxx · 21/08/2019 12:36

@cushioncovers oh really I didn't know that either.

Know what you mean he was really likeable even tho he was a baddy really!

Oh no you will have the same feeling again !!

cushioncovers · 22/08/2019 21:15

Well I've finished all four series in two week and I loved it. Grin

taytosandwich · 22/08/2019 22:40

I loved John too! It's really not the same without him. Full of life and vigour he was.

Alfie was a great character. At the start you're like what the hell is this guy Confusedbut as he grows you become sort of fond of him and then...well.

Hopefully they have some interesting new characters to fill that aching hole in this new series.

Thymeout · 23/08/2019 01:11

I thought Alfie Solomons was great. He had some v clever lines. Loved Ada and Polly. The only one I couldn't see the point of was Grace - or, rather, Grice. Her hairstyle was far too modern in the first series and she didn't seem to fit in, stuck out like a sore thumb in The Garrison. Too much so for an undercover agent.

Mainly though, apart from Cillian Murphy, it was the cinematography that hooked me. Every frame would have made a beautiful still photograph.

I came late, too, and watched the whole lot over a fortnight on I-player. Was speaking with a Brummie accent by the end.
